Page references are for the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). Both texts are in the pews. All are welcome to receive communion. These are God s gifts for all who believe in Christ and all who yearn to draw closer to him! Thank you for enriching us with your presence. May God bless you on this day! 2 15

Hymn 450 Salutation Celebrant Blessed be the one, holy, and living God. Glory to God for ever and ever. Collect for Purity Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Gloria Hymn S 280 The Collect of the Day Celebrant Celebrant God be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Please be seated) The First Reading Ezekiel 34:11-16, Reader A reading from the book of Ezekiel. Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among 3

4 their scattered sheep, so I will seek out my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited parts of the land. I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord GOD. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with justice. Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them: I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you pushed with flank and shoulder, and butted at all the weak animals with your horns until you scattered them far and wide, I will save my flock, and they shall no longer be ravaged; and I will judge between sheep and sheep. I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken. Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 95:1-7a BCP p Come, let us sing to the LORD; * let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving * and raise a loud shout to him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is a great God, * and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the caverns of the earth, * and the heights of the hills are his also. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, * and his hands have molded the dry land. 6 Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, * and kneel before the LORD our Maker. ~ The Week of November 26th ~ Sunday, November 26 ~ The 25th Sunday after Pentecost 9 AM - Holy Eucharist at St. Mary s by-the-sea Thursday, November AM - Prayer Shawl Ministry At the Neighborhood House The Rector is on Vacation November 20 - December 4. 5 The Invitation to Communion All who are drawn to Christ are welcome to come forward for communion. If you prefer a blessing to receiving the bread and the wine, simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will bless you. (Gluten free wafers are available, please let the celebrant know when you come forward.) Communion Hymn Love divine, all loves excelling Hymn 657 (Please stand as able) The Post-communion Prayer Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image and nourishing us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of Christ s Body and Blood. Now send us forth a people, forgiven, healed, renewed; that we may proclaim your love to the world and continue in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen. Blessing Closing Hymn Sing, ye faithful, sing with gladness Hymn 492 Dismissal Thanks be to God. 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. The Epistle Ephesians 1:15-23 Reader A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians. I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Reader The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Postlude Trio 12 Couperin (Please stand as able) Sequence Hymn Before the Lord s eternal throne Hymn 391 vs. 1-3 (Please remain standing as able) The Gospel Matthew 25:31-46 Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said, When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I 5

6 was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. Then he will say to those at his left hand, You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? Then he will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. Gospeller 6 The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Hymn Before the Lord s eternal throne Hymn 391 vs. 4-5 (Please be seated) Sermon The Rev. William Hague The Nicene Creed (Please stand as able) BCP p. 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The Celebrant continues Remembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation this bread and this wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spirit and live as Christ s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of your daughters and sons, that with St. Mary, St. Jude, and all your saints, past, present, and yet to come, we may praise your Name for ever. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. Amen. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Fraction Anthem Celebrant We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. 11

7 Therefore, joining with Angels and Archangels and with the faithful of every generation, we lift our voices with all creation as we sing: Celebrant and Hymn S 130 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us in your own image and called us to dwell in your infinite love. You gave the world into our care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountiful grace. But we failed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we would not see your goodness in the world around us; and so we violated your creation, abused one another, and rejected your love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, and prepared the way of salvation for all people. Through Abraham and Sarah you called us into covenant with you. You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise of salvation. Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Born into the human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory. Giving himself freely to death on the cross, he triumphed over evil, opening the way of freedom and life. On the night before he died for us, Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: Take, eat: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. 10 begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the Form II BCP p. 385 In the course of the silence after each bidding, the offer their own prayers, either silently or aloud. I ask your prayers for God's people throughout the world; for the Trustees, the Commission on Ministry, and other decision making bodies of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine; for the staff of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine; for the Diocese of Wad Medani, Sudan; and our brothers and sisters in our companion Diocese of Haiti. Pray for the Church. I ask your prayers for peace; for goodwill among nations; and for the well-being of all people. 7

8 Pray for justice and peace. I ask your prayers for the poor, the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and those in prison. Pray for those in any need or trouble. I ask your prayers for all who seek God, or a deeper knowledge of him. Pray that they may find and be found by him. I ask your prayers for the departed. Pray for those who have died. I ask your prayers for Charles Fenno, Leanne Foster, Patricia Gardner, David Graves, Cassia Hatch, David Hill, Adam Keeler, Walter Knudsen, Sally Merchant, Janneke Neilson, Lloyd Norwood, Bob Pyle; and those we now name I ask your prayers of thanksgiving for Lauri Fernald and Spencer Clark- Lovejoy who celebrate their birthdays this week; and for all the people and families of our parish, especially Bob and Anne Bass, Mary Lee Bayne, Nancy Beecher, Ledlie and Norman Bell, Judy and Ron Benson; and those we now name... 8 Praise God for those in every generation in whom Christ has been honored. Pray that we may have grace to glorify Christ in our own day. The Celebrant adds a concluding Collect. The Confession (please kneel as you are able) Celebrant Let us confess our sins to God. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Absolution Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen you in in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace Celebrant The peace of Christ be always with you. And also with you. Announcements The Celebration of Holy Communion Offertory Sentence The plates that are passed throughout the congregation are for your offering of yourself to God this day. Feel free to include money, a note, or any other symbol of your self-offering. The plates will be placed on the altar to be blessed with the bread and the wine. Offertory Music (Please stand as able) Presentation Hymn: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow Hymn 380, vs. 3 Eucharistic Prayer 1 Celebrant The Lord be with you. And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is truly right, and good and joyful, to give you thanks, all holy God, source of life and fountain of mercy. You have filled us and all creation with your blessing and fed us with your constant love; you have redeemed us in Jesus Christ and knit us into one body. Through your Spirit you replenish us and call us to fullness of life. 9
