Last week 4003 shoe boxes were loaded on a tractor trailer in Sydney. Last year 2438 boxes were sent. This year 222 boxes were sent from Bethel compared to 150 last year. (67 Bethel Friendship & Fitness; 13 Guides, Rangers, Pathfinders and 142 Bethel Presbyterian Church and Friends of Bethel. There were also several monetary gifts which helped with the shipping. The John Geddie, Atlantic Mission Society would like to thank you for making this project a huge success. You have brightened the lives of the children receiving the boxes and given them hope, love and joy. Gifts of Change Memorials The Session is recommending that if you have given a Memorial Donation to purchase poinsettias in previous years, that you consider the "Gifts of Change" program as we have been doing the last several years, which provides a more lasting benefit. The catalogue has many suggestions for projects in Canada and around the world. Many of the members of John Geddie AMS will have had the opportunity to spend time with David and Anna Pandy-Szekeres at an Atlantic Mission Society event a few years ago and have been following their work with Roma people for a number of years. This year one of the items in the Gifts of Change catalogue provides funding to children of the Ukraine and

6 Romania. The Session would like to suggest support for this item this year. The following is the description as it appears in the catalogue. Give the Gift of a Future in Ukraine and Romania. It is hard to learn when you are hungry. The Reformed Church schools in Eastern Europe (with which the Pandy-Szekeres are associated) provide disadvantaged children with not just a quality Christian education, but with healthy food as well. The students are nurtured physically, mentally and spiritually and the future holds possibilities beyond their expectations. $25.00 buses a Roma child to kindergarten or elementary school for one month $ provides food for one semester for a secondary school student You may support this item with any donation by placing your name and the person(s) you wish remembered on an envelope and placing it in the offering plate. Please make cheques payable to Bethel. The Memorials will be listed in the church bulletin as they are received. Mission Moments International Day for People with Disabilities December 3 is International Day for People with Disabilities. When Atanga Yaaji of Ghana was young, he developed an illness that caused him to lose the use of his right leg. While his other siblings got to go to school, Atanga was encouraged to stay home so that his health could improve. Atanga eventually enrolled at the Garu Community Based Rehabilitation Centre an organization supported by Presbyterian World Service & Development that helps people with disabilities improve their quality of life. Through the centre s vocational training, Atanga became a bicycle fitter, earning enough money to secure his basic needs. When Atanga s illness took his other leg, the program continued to lend support, providing him with a wheelchair and training in agriculture. Atanga is full of gratitude for the acceptance, faithful care and training he received at Garu. PWS&D supports people living with disabilities
