His notes from Wichita newspapers -- the Tihen Notes, as we call them -- provide an excellent starting point for further research. They present brief synopses of newspaper articles, identify the newspaper -- Eagle, Beacon or Eagle-Beacon -- in which the stories first appeared, and give exact references to the s on which the articles are found. Mathel. Wednesday, June 12, Article says the German Methodists here may purchase the Methodist Episcopal Church edifice for $1580, far below the original cost. Details. Wednesday, July 17, The German Methodists have purchased a 50 foot lot on the corner of Emporia Avenue and 1st Street upon which they will soon erect a church. Wednesday, July 31, At a business meeting Monday night, the Methodist Episcopal Church resolved to build a new house of worship at once. Wednesday, August 7, The German Methodist Episcopal congregation is preparing to build a handsome gothic church on the corner of 1st Street and Emporia Avenue. It will be a frame on a stone foundation, 26 by 40 feet, with a recess in the rear for the pulpit. The ceiling will be 16 foot. It will be lighted by four windows on the east side. The steeple, when completed, will be about 50 feet high. It will have a seating capacity of 150 to 200. The congregation thinks they can build the church for about $1500. Wednesday, January 29, The German Methodist congregation have completed, furnished and painted their church building. It is the only church building in the city with a completed spire or tower. Wednesday, May 7, The dedication of the German Methodist Episcopal Church on corner of 1st Street and Emporia Avenue will take place Sunday, May 18, Wednesday, May 21, The German Methodist Episcopal Church was formally opened on Sunday morning by Rev. Mr. Grievy, Presiding Elder in the German Methodist Episcopal Church of Kansas. Owing to the rain, the afternoon dedication ceremonies were postponed until next Sunday.

The church was dedicated on the present site in Thursday, July 29, Contract let today for the new German Methodist Episcopal church at corner of South Ida and Prince streets. Cost $10,000. Saturday, August 21, A farewell service will be held at the old German Methodist Episcopal church at 1st and Emporia tomorrow. The church will be moving to its new church now building at Lulu and Prince. The old church was sold to Mr. Fred Bissantz, who will erect a building on the old church site. The building will be used as a mission chapel by ladies of the Presbyterian church after being moved to the North End. Saturday, August 28, The German Methodist Episcopal church building at 1st and Emporia has been purchased by the mission of the First Presbyterian church. It is being moved to Riverside where it will be used as a mission. Tuesday, October 11, The German Methodist church has completed its new church at Lulu and Prince streets at cost of $20,000. It is of brick, 67 by 51 feet. To be dedicated in a few weeks. Services are being held in the basement awaiting the completion of the auditorium. Details. Friday, August 28, 1914
