2 We are in a sense instruments of Guru Rinpoche s vision.this Temple is too grand for our own efforts alone to make all the causes and conditions come together as they have. - Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche 2012, Year Two of Construction of the Sangdo Palri Temple Join us in celebrating A Year of Accomplishment 2012 has been a year of tremendous accomplishment for the Sangdo Palri Temple Project. With great appreciation we thank the crew for their diligence, our many donors across the globe for their generosity, and the lineage for their blessings. This year we completed the Temple s three floors and three roofs (except for the second section of the third floor); we purchased and welcomed the Temple s main statues, embodiments of the lineage: a Guru Rinpoche (detail to your right), 1000-armed Avalokiteshvara, Amitabha, Kurukulle and two Taras; and we began the aesthetic phase of the exterior with Japanese details such as curved entrance beams on the first and second floors, curved roofs on all floors, and many other elements that define the Temple s unique design. During the final moments of Phase 2, as we raised up the third floor roof by crane, Kongtrul Rinpoche observed that in building Sangdo Palri we experience ourselves as instruments of Guru Rinpoche. Everyone on the crew, and even suppliers who visit infrequently, express an awe and appreciation in working on the Temple that echoes Rinpoche s observation. Although you may not be able to pinpoint it in each nail, or beam, or moment, there is something bigger than oneself taking place. We wish by participating as supporters and donors that you feel this very same grand sense of mission. Join Us in Completing a Vision With Phase 3 we usher in the complete adornment of the Temple s exterior, those details of refinement and beauty that befit a representation of Guru Rinpoche s pure realm. These include gold and copper roofs, elaborate Tibetan motifs around the shrine room entrances and below each veranda, and a continuation of Japanese details in the woodwork of the roofs, verandas, trim, soffit, and finally a beautiful white stucco and strong rock wainscot that merges the structure with the surrounding land. Carpenter Steve Storm refining the curved hip of the second floor roof, where long curved beams meet a gentle sloping hip rafter and create a Japanese style roof. We invite you to join us in creating this powerful first impression visitors will have as they approach the Temple that unique image set against the mountains which will evoke awakened mind, which will permeate the memories of visitors and be recalled in private recollection, or described to friends. This vision is the legacy we leave as practitioners of this time, an expression of our devotion and our enthusiasm for the dharma and lineage that deliver deep meaning to our lives.
