Introduction Breath is the most basic important thing of being alive. Breath is the sign of the origination in every form of life. The first breath is a starting point of birth, perceptions of six senses, consciousness, being, aging and the death. Life without a breath we cannot call it s still alive, and the last breath is also a starting point of death. The Buddha is one of the most important person in the world. He was born around 2,600 years ago. From the first breath to the last breath of the Buddha, he searched for the truths, practiced for six years of until his enlightenment discovered the Four Noble Truths and taught only the truths until the last breath. With knowledge of the Buddha that he left for the world are still using, practice in many places with different meanings that was cut or added by each of followers in later time. Therefore there are many different Nigayas in many countries. The Buddha s Teachings are the truths of the real nature, timeless truths, pure and perfect. Words of the Buddha from
the night of enlightenment until the night he attains final Nibbana, in the interval whatever he speaks, talks of, and expounds, all that is just so, not otherwise. He said what he did and did what he said so he was named Tathagata. If we understand the Buddha Teachings in the right view and can select only the Buddha s words for studying, practicing the right path we all can achieve the right results to the liberation before our last breath. Who should have this book? It s not incidental opportunity that you found this book. It s about Cause and Effect Law that s very well known in western civilization society. Breath of Buddha is just one in about 4 million books on Amazon.com it s very little opportunity to find one in a 4 million with your intention or non-intention. Try to realize, what s your purpose of seeking the book that you would like to read. Things that you would like to know happiness, knowledge or the truths for a better life. Just use this very rare opportunity to read the contents inside and ask yourself is this you are looking for?
This book is for: 1. Person who accept in Law of Cause and Effect. 2. Open-minded person who would like to know and understand our real nature that was discovered by the Buddha. 3. Ordinary person that would like to study in one of the most important prophet s teachings of the world, the Buddha s Teachings to bring some good things to use for our better life. 4. People who would like to learn something that useful to be used to develop each of our everyday life. 5. Someone who is searching for happiness or peace of mind to live a meaningful life for oneself and others.
Part 1 What is Buddhism? Ananda, it may be that you will think: The Teacher s instruction has ceased, now we have no teacher! It should not be seen like this, Ananda, for what I have taught and explained to you as Dhamma and Vinaya (Discipline) will, at my passing, be your teacher DN This is the beginning point to understand Buddhism in the right view. To answer this simple question for person who never heard this word Buddhism, or those who have studied and practice Buddhism or even those who call themselves Buddhist. The simple meaning of Buddhism is the Teachings of the Buddha or the words of the Buddha or Buddhawajana or Tathagata s words.
And we should realize the differences between the Buddha, the prophet who proscribe Dhamma and Vinaya (Discipline) for followers, with the followers who are listener to words of the Buddha then learn, practice until attain the liberation and bring words of the Buddha to later followers. With this reason there are followers those who still strict with words of the Buddha that the Buddha said not to add or cut his teachings just learn and practice in only the Buddha s words, so the truths of the Buddha s teachings still taught and practice from generation to generation as long as the being of the words of the Buddha. And also there are followers those who not strict with words of the Buddha, not follow to what the Buddha said so they add or cut or do both cut and add the Buddha s teachings, taught what the Buddha never taught and some later followers those who learn and practice in followers teachings so nowadays there are so many teachings of many masters in different places and time which call in various Nigayas.
If we understand this situation clearly maybe we will able to understand and able to select the Buddha s words easier. And why we should select only words of the Buddha. Simple answer is because if we would like to know what is the Buddha s teachings so we should listen to words of the Buddha to know what he said and taught, not listen to other person. Try with these 3 examples: 1. Albert Einstein ( ), he know how to make atomic bomb, if we would like to know how to make atomic bomb so we should ask from himself or ask from who else. Even he was dead we should select from other evidences or from his works to know what he said how to do that. 2. Galileo Galilei ( ) know how to make telescope to observe the sky, if we would like to know how to make telescope so we should ask from himself or ask who else. Even he was dead we should select from other evidences or from his works to know what he said how to do that.
3. Archi Medes (287 BC.-212 BC) know how to measure volume of object, if we would like to know how to measure volume of object so we should ask from himself or ask who else. But he was dead for very longtime, we should select from other evidences or from his works to know what he said how to do that. Even it s about 2,200 years ago, when he had discovered how to do this, he said Eureka! (Greek, meaning: I have found it! ). His story is still being remembered and has been told from ancient time to nowadays.
