2 General Information What: Federation of Dharma School Teachers League Conference Theme: Intersections: We are all connected to and living at the intersection of many communities. Let s explore how to navigate through our 21 st century lives, guided by the light of the Buddha s wisdom in Nembutsu. Host: Bay District Dharma School Teachers League When: Friday-Sunday, April 27, 28 & 29, 2018 Where: Crowne Plaza, 1221 Chess Drive, Foster City, CA Registration: $165 per participant payable to Bay District Dharma School Teachers League. 3 Meals: Indicate Saturday s lunch choice on the registration form. Choices for a personal box lunch: Tarragon chicken salad on croissant (C) Italian sub w/assorted meats & cheese on ciabatta (I) Grilled vegetables on whole wheat roll (V) Dinner will be an Italian themed buffet. Non conference guests may join us for lunch ($35/person) and/or dinner ($75/person). Please include guests on the registration form and add-in meal payment(s) with registration fees. Hotel Room rate is $149/night for either King room or 2 Queen Reservations: beds. Rooms can be reserved online at or by calling toll free and ask for Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) Room Block. Bishop s Recognition: Dharma School teachers who have reached 10 years of service will be recognized by the Bishop at the conference. Please submit teachers names on the enclosed form by March 30, Teachers do not have to be present to receive their award, but are encouraged to attend. FDSTL Service FDSTL would like to recognize current Dharma School Recognition: teachers who have taught for 25 and 50 years. Please complete and submit the form included in this packet. 4 Speaker Bio: Rev. Henry Toryo Adams grew up in Buffalo, Minnesota. He discovered his interest in Buddhism during a one-year high school exchange program in Chennai, India in As an undergraduate student at St. Olaf College, he began his study of Buddhist scriptures and first considered pursuing the path to the ministry. After receiving an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Michigan in 2003, he moved to Miyazaki, Japan where he worked for the Miyazaki Prefectural Government from 2004 to In 2007, Rev. Adams moved to Kyoto, Japan to pursue his ministerial studies at the Chuo Bukkyo Gakuin Buddhist Seminary. Upon graduating from the seminary in March 2010, he began serving as a Minister in the Buddhist Churches of America on April 1, He has been serving in his current capacity as the Resident Minister of the San Mateo Buddhist Temple since October 1, Prior to coming to San Mateo, he served the Oxnard Buddhist Temple, the Buddhist Church of Santa Barbara, the San Luis Obispo Buddhist Temple and the Guadalupe Buddhist Church.
