They carried meat/fish with them. Many of the sailors fell ill due to eating the stale food and had to be given medicines. During the voyage they also faced violent storms and almost lost their way. Columbus used his compass to find the way and get them back to Spain. A. Write any 2 things that sailors had to carry on a voyage. B. Write any 2 problems that the sailors faced during a voyage. 5. 9 PART II Long Answer Questions 9. Read the text answer the questions. 30 Marks 6 The Sangam literature tells us about the kings and the cities. The Chola king KariKala Chola won many battles against neighbouring kingdoms. The Chera king Chenguttuvan, built a powerful navy. The Pandya king Nedunchezhian II defeated the Chera and Chola armies in a battle. Apart from wars, marriages also took place to expand the kingdoms. The cities in these kingdoms had night bazaars that sold cloth, jewels and spices. A. Write any 1 thing that you can tell about the three kings of the Sangam Age from the text. B. Do you think trade grew during the rule of KariKala Chola, Chenguttuvan and Nedunchezhian II? How do you know? Write 2 reasons. C. Do you think people in the three kingdoms were connected? 12 1 Read the passage and answer the questions. 6 Sangam literature is an important source. We get to know that Tamilakam was divided into 5 types of land and there were 3 major kingdoms. The 3 kingdoms were ruled by the Cheras, the Cholas and the Pandyas. There were different kinds of streets for different areas, like houses and markets. In the markets goldsmiths and cloth merchants made and sold their goods, and grain merchants also traded their goods. However, we do not know when exactly events happened during this age. A. Write any 2 things that Sangam literature tells us about the kings and kingdoms of that time. B. Write any 2 things about the markets and trade during the Sangam Age. C. Write any 1 thing we don t get to know from the Sangam literature. 12

He wrote mainly about the geography and people of India. Hiuen Tsang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who came to India in 630 CE. He wanted to visit the sacred Buddhist sites and collect original Buddhist scriptures. He wrote about the Buddhist legends and miracles, the geography and climate of India. A. Fill in the table.
