The three systems of Mahāyāna Written in Chinese by Master Yin-Shun Translated by Dr. Wing H. Yeung Presented by Bhikkhu Ekāyana
What's our goals? attain liberation from birth and death How to archive? become a buddha direct realization the nature of things
What is "The Nature of Things"? the reality of all things The Sages Realized It never been dual or differentiated Dependent Origination characterized by being universal and one.
Do Sages differ? Sages are differentiated by the unconditioned nature of things. XThe Unconditional Nature of things The Level of realization
Metaphor Round Space Square Space Does Empty Space differ?
Why must it be presented skillfully? not accept not understand very profound slander
The Three Systems of Mahāyāna Dharma MASTER YIN SHUN VEN. TAI XU HUA YAN TRADITION the Empty Nature Mere Name system ( ENMN the Empty Nature of Things system ( the Nature of Things tradition ( the False Imagination Mere Consciousness system ( the Truly Eternal Mere Mind system ( TEMM the Mere Consciousness of the Forms of Things system ( the Complete Enlightenment to the Realm of Things system ( 法界圓覺 the Refuting Form tradition ( the Form of Things tradition (
The perplexity HUA YAN TRADITION ~ based on the third system, so it depicts the first two as temporal teachings and its own tradition as the real one. YOGĀCĀRA TRADITION ~ based on the second system, proclaims itself the tradition corresponding to the truth" ~ calls the first system a teaching of unwholesome emptiness ~ and the third system the particular philosophy of "this land" - that is, Chinese Buddhism. THREE TREATISES TRADITION (MADYHAMAKA) ~ based on the first system and calls itself the Great Vehicle that realizes that there is nothing attainable" ~ and unavoidably over criticizes scholars of other systems.
The Queries What does it really mean to reveal the whole truth or not? Who is really revealing the whole truth?
The Facts each of these traditions offers Sūtra as proof, and claims to possess treatises that reveal the whole truth, the disputes have been difficult to resolve.
Master's Comments & Advises concerned with the nature of things practice toward the realization of prajñā X carelessly generalize Wise people should skillfully come to their own decisions. the real aims of the Buddha Dharma the great function of skillful-means
Methodology Explain the three systems in brief Put aside the different opinions of the scholars of later periods Seek the information directly from the fundamental scriptures
