4 GESHE KELSANG GYATSO OUR FOUNDER & TRADITION Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso rinpoche, the founder of the New Kadampa Tradition - International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU), is a Spiritual Guide for the modern world. A fully accomplished and world-renowned Buddhist meditation master, he has introduced an authentic Buddhist lineage grounded in ancient wisdom into the modern world and shown how it can be applied by anyone, Buddhist or non-buddhist, to solve our daily problems, improve our personal relationships, and eventually attain a deep and lasting happiness and inner peace. Geshe Kelsang s extraordinary teachings embodied in his 22 highly acclaimed books teach simple practices that are easy to follow, but which lead us from the state of an ordinary being to the attainment of enlightenment, which is the ultimate goal of our human life. All of Geshe Kelsang s activities are dedicated to bringing about world peace by helping us develop its true cause - inner peace - through meditation and other practices. To this end he has established hundreds of meditation centres throughout the world and trained modern Buddhist teachers to teach in them.
5 MODERN KADAMPA BUDDHISM The New Kadampa Tradition International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) is an international association of Mahayana Buddhist study and meditation centres founded by Venerable Geshe-la in 1991 to offer the practical wisdom of Kadampa Buddhism to the people of our modern world. The NKT-IKBU follows the pure tradition of Mahayana Buddhism handed down in an unbroken lineage from Buddha Shakyamuni through the ancient Kadampa teachers Atisha and Je Tsongkhapa and introduced into the West by Geshe Kelsang.
6 GEN-LA KELSANG DEKYONG OUR GENERAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, the General Spiritual Director of the NKT-IKBU, is a modern Buddhist nun dedicated to helping people from all walks of life attain lasting happiness through developing inner peace. She has been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for thirty years, during which time she has inspired thousands of people around the world through her sincere reliance on her Spiritual Guide, taking his teachings to heart and putting them into practice in every aspect of her life. Gen-la Dekyong is a highly experienced Buddhist teacher who has taught at many different centres internationally.
