1 Emotional Eating Quiz Example In this PDF, we are going to show you how to create a quiz by using an example. First, Hungry for Happiness chose 4 possible results that quiz takers could receive: 1. The Emotionless Eater 2. The Overwhelmed Eater 3. The Stressed Out Emotional Eater 4. The Anxious and Fearful Emotional Eater Each answer of the quiz was associated with one of those 4 possible results. Answer A correlates with The Emotionless Eater Answer B correlates with The Overwhelmed Eater Answer C correlates with The Stressed Out Emotional Eater Answer D correlates with The Anxious and Fearful Emotional Eater Below are the 20 questions Hungry For Happiness asked any quiz taker: 1) You are at a birthday party with an amazing array of delicious foods chocolate cake, baked brie & crackers, candied dates & deep fried shrimp. You say to yourself: A. Sweeet! Party time, let s dig in! B. Agh! I am on a diet. These foods are all strict, no-nos! Oh well, I ll start Monday. It s a party and I m going to enjoy myself. C. Ugh, I feel the stress already. Ok, I will just have one then stop. I don t want this to end in a binge. D. I feel so uncomfortable, I m not going to think about it. I will eat to distract myself and numb these feelings of insecurity and pain. 2) Imagine that you are hanging out with your girlfriends. Someone brings in donuts, they are beautiful & will taste as good as they look. The smell overcomes you. You ve already eaten breakfast. What do you say to yourself? A. You only live once! I looooveeeeeee donuts! B. Donuts are all carbs and sugar. It s more calories than a bagel. But, they are so yummy. Oh what the heck! C. I spotted my very favorite. Must. Have. One. It would be awkward if I didn t indulge with everyone else. D. You feel a little panicked, overwhelmed and don t know what to do. The thought of what if I can t stop? arises.
2 3) It s almost lunchtime according to the clock. You have packed a great lunch. Your first thought is: A. I m going for it, I m starving and can always buy sushi at lunch time if I m still hungry. B. The diet rule is to only eat at 12:00 on the dot. It s agony but I can wait it out another half hour. My breakfast was tiny and I m starving. C. This day has been so rough. I deserve my lunch, right now. D. I need routine. If I eat this now, it will mess up the flow of my entire day. I need to just wait until it is time or else I will immediately feel guilty and shameful. 4) It s Friday night - the week is over and you re ready to put your hair down and relax a little. You decide to head to your favorite fancy restaurant in town, so you call up a friend to grab dinner. What is your thought process? A. I am so excited! I haven t seen my friend in so long AND this place has incredible appetizers! B. This is a great restaurant. They have fantastic bread. I just can t seem to help myself when the basket is in front of me. It s so dense and fresh - but that s ok, it s a treat. C. He/she is going to want to share an appetizer or dessert. I really don t want to have to feel awkward about saying no. D. I hate going for dinner with people. I feel like they are watching what I eat, whether I overeat or undereat. It feels like I am always being watched. 5) You ve had a week from hell. Work was stressful this week and you feel the world crashing down. You encounter your favorite - super loaded cheesy nachos. What do you do? A. Ask for extra cheese! The more the merrier. B. Dive in with caution - I m craving the crunch the cheese ohhhh the cheese! I deserve it after the week I ve had. I ll be sure to hit the gym tomorrow to burn it all off. C. Don t do it. It s got so many calories! This is will completely derail my diet and I will never get back on track. D. I need to numb out. I m too overwhelmed. While I m eating I don t think about anything else. 6) I generally binge eat when A. I m at a party and not paying attention to how much I m eating, it s not so much a binge, just overeating. B. I am on a diet. Dieting stresses me out trying to fight off the urge to eat good food. C. When I m stressed out. Food makes me feel comfortable, especially when I m eating something that remind me of my childhood. D. I m feeling slightly depressed or anxious or stressed out. When I m thinking about the past or stressing about the future. 7) When my best friend recommends a new diet plan she swears by A. HA! Diet? Are you kidding me? I LOVE food! B. I m skeptical and decline. I ve tried a lot of diets, all of which have failed. C. I do a little research, read a few reviews and pass over my credit card. D. I impulsively jump right on board. I am willing to try anything at this point. The pain of hating my body and struggling with food is too much to handle. 8) It s 1:00am and you re upset because of a fight you ve had with a significant other. What do you do?
3 A. I normally meditate when I m worked up. It eases my frustration. B. I can t eat or drink anything - fighting makes me feel nauseous. C. Head right for the popcorn, a big massive bag - lots of butter. D. I dive head first into a pint of Ben and Jerry's. I enter zombie mode of not listening to my body and eat the pint until it s nearly finished, then I see what else is in the kitchen for me to finish. 9) When it comes to diet rules your thoughts are... A. Diet Rules? Never, I eat when I want. B. I don t make them. I can trust myself enough to not give in to food too much. C. I make them to help myself to stay on track, but they usually fail and I feel a little guilt. D. They are a MUST. If I don t set out strict rules for myself, I will fail and binge eat. When I break a rule I end up beating myself up. 10) When you see your thin friend eating anything she wants, what do you think? A. You go girl! Let me join you! B. I wish my body responded the way hers does. She is so lucky. C. Thank goodness for her fast metabolism! It will catch up to her one day, it always does. D. I hate how she eats whatever she wants, drinks whatever she wants and is still so skinny - it s not fair. 11) When grocery shopping - this is how you feel A. What is on sale? I m always up for a good deal. B. Hum, I m going to head for the veggies - summer is coming and I want to drop a few pounds. C. I can t buy anything bad today. Tomorrow is Monday and I need to start eating better. D. I have to read all the packaging and ingredients before I purchase anything. I can t afford to eat any extra calories. 12) When your friend suggests a girls weekend away, after the excitement you think A. I love girls weekends away, this is going to be amazing. B. Time to go bathing suit shopping. Oh no... C. Oh god, I need to hit the gym. My eating has been out of control D. I don t think i can go. Being around food and large groups gives me anxiety. Not to mention I will need to be in a bikini. I need to give this some thought. 13) When you are invited to a family dinner, what are your initial thoughts? A. I m so excited. Family time is always fun! B. Hopefully this will be fun. Sometimes being around family overwhelms me and I tend to just eat too much. C. Oh no, being around family brings up a lot of stress. I hate when family members comment on my weight or what I m eating. D. I m already feeling anxious. Not only are there tons of family around watching what I eat, sometimes in those environments I get stressed out and feel overwhelmed. 14) When you feel yourself overeating and not being able to stop what thoughts arise? A. I m only human - tomorrow is a new day and I will get right back on track! B. That s ok, I will deal with it tomorrow by putting in a 2 hour workout. It just tastes too good. C. I m definitely eating more than I need, but it feels good so I will keep going.
4 D. I can t stop.i want to stop, but I can t. I will just keep eating and deal with these feelings later. 15) After you totally binge on ice cream, cakes and all your favorite foods, what are your thoughts? A. Ahh, I needed that! Indulging in my favorite things felt so good B. I shouldn t have eaten so much, but you only live once. C. I really wish I could trust myself around food more. I hate how I lose all control. D. I feel terrible. I have no willpower around food. Now I need to deal with all this guilt and shame that is coming up. 16) It s a Tuesday night and you re bored. What do you reach for in terms of excitement? A. An awesome movie on Netflix or head off to a yoga class. B. A massive bowl of popcorn and a movie. C. A glass of wine to take the edge off. D. Anything in my kitchen that I can binge on. çhocolate, ice cream, chips, leftovers, treats, candy - anything to numb out. 17) If someone was to ask you if you use food as drug what would be your initial reaction? A. Never, I just use food as fuel. B. Not usually, I have learned to calm myself down using meditation and breathing. C. Sometimes, when I m feeling down and I don t know what to do to make myself feel better I tend to use food for comfort D. That is me, to a tee. In times of pain or stress, food is my answer. When I am eating, I don t listen to my body. I just eat and eat until I ve finished the food. 18) In terms of exercise, this is your thought pattern A. Who is up for a game of soccer? B. My energy has been low and I m feeling sluggish. I need to go to the gym and get back on track. C. Oh god, I ve been eating so bad. It s time to get back on track at the gym so I don t gain 100 pounds. I feel gross. D. I have to go to the gym everyday. Because I can t control myself around food I will use exercise to ensure I don t get fat. 19) When you wake up in the morning, what are some of your initial thoughts? A. Coffee...bring me coffee. B. I don t like this part of the day. It causes me stress. Not only am I short for time, I need to find something I look half decent in C. Ugh, I don t know what to wear today. I m going to feel so fat after all that food I ate last night. D. I feel guilty and shameful for how much food I ate last night. I don t want to look in the mirror or step on the scale. Today is going to suck. 20) When you go to bed at night, what are some of your last thoughts? A. How many hours of sleep will I get before I wake up? B. I definitely ate more than I should have today. That s ok - tomorrow is a new day.
5 C. I wish I had more self control around food. I totally didn t need that second serving of dinner tonight. At least I can work it off at the gym tomorrow. D. I need to sort this problem out. I can t control myself around food, and because I can t, I end up overeating way too much. Now I m feeling guilty and shameful for what I did during the day.
