1 Investiture Ceremony Welcome to the Investiture Ceremony for the Leaders of the Harbour City Community. Today, our new leaders will officially become Girl Scouts. Let s begin today s ceremony with the flag ceremony and a prayer. Scout 1 (See Colorguard Caller s Card) **Just Flag and Pledge** Scout 2 Prayer Thank you and Please be seated. Scout 3 (**Scout 3 and 4 can be deleted or shortened, but it s good to give a little background on why we do what we do**) The first thing to know about being a Girl Scout is that you make a Promise. So do all the millions of Girl Scouts across the country and around the world. That's what makes us all sisters. This Promise is called the Girl Scout Promise. It's the way Girl Scouts promise to act every day. The Promise is at the center of everything we do in Girl Scouts. That's why it's the very center of the Daisy flower. Saying "on my honor" means that you're giving your word to do something. When you give your word to try to live by the Girl Scout Law, you're saying that you're ready to help make the world a better place. Girl Scouts, Let's stand and say the GS Promise together. The Girl Scout Sign GS promise. "On my honor... Thank you. Please be seated.

2 Scout 4 Girl Scouting was started by a woman named Juliette Gordon Low. When she was a baby, her uncle said she was going to be a daisy. That was his way of saying she was special! Just like each of you are special. Her family started calling her Daisy, and that became her nickname. Years later, Girl Scout Daisies were named after her. When Daisy was a girl, she like to climb trees and swing on vines. She loved all kinds of animals. She even had a pet rabbit! And she always had a lot of fun--and when she grew up, she wanted other girls to have fun, too. That's why she started Girl Scouts. Now there are Girl Scouts all over the world! Today you'll be receiving your GS pins on the yellow or green tab. The top pin is the World Association or World Trefoil Pin. The bottom one is your daisy pin or girl scout pin. You can wear these pins on your uniform and you always wear them proudly over your heart. Leader 1 At this time, I will welcome the new leaders into our Girl Scout Sisterhood by giving them the GS handshake. Please come forward as I call your name. Leader 1 (Leader s name), I welcome you as a Girl Scout Leader in the Harbour City Community. (Give GS handshake) Let s give all the leaders a round of applause. Thank you. You may have a seat.

3 Rededication Ceremony The leaders and girls that are participating in the candle lighting ceremony, please take your places. The first candle is lit in honor of our founder Juliette Gordon Lowe. [Scout 6 Lights the green candle] Scout 6 Scout 6 Scout 7 Scout8 Scout 9 The center 3 candles honor the Girl Scout Promise. The last 10 candles honor the Girl Scout Law. On my honor, I will try It is a big promise to live up to, and the first words mean "I will do my very best". To serve God and my country [lights first candle] I will honor God and will be faithful to my own religion. I will be a good citizen of my country. To help people at all times [ lights second candle] I will be ready and willing to help people anytime that I am needed. And to live by the Girl Scout Law [ lights third candle] Scout 10 I will try everyday to make the ten parts of the Girl Scout Law a part of my life.

To be responsible for what I say and do [light candle] We cannot blame others for our own thoughts, words or actions To respect myself and others [light candle] We have to like ourselves before we can like others, and we must respect other people for who and what they are To respect authority [light candle] Rules are made to protect people and their rights. We follow rules without argument To use resources wisely [light candle] Our natural resources won t last forever. We will work to conserve them To make the world a better place [light candle] We try to make our world a better place through our words and actions To be a sister to every Girl Scout [light candle] Girl Scouts have friends all over the world and we share the same principals in our Promise and Law
