1 ORIGIN, VISION AND OBJECTIVES OF SOUTHERN BORNO GLOBAL INITIATIVES: Speech Delivered by, Mohammed Ali Ahmadu, (Zannah of Biu) BOT Chairman SBGI. On the lunching and Presentation of certificates on the 21 st October, At the national women centre, Abuja. In the name of Allah the most gracious most merciful. PROTOCOL. Today marks an important day in the history of southern Borno, Southern Borno Global Initiatives is also making history, history that will go down to generation yet unborn. This initiative started on the 12 th November, Member swung into action by making wider consultation, from different platform and among interest groups. While this was on going, we travel to Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa and Jos for wider consultation, which we were able to identify our major problems as lack of unity, lack of visible dividend of democracy which gave birth to so many social vices. I was privileged to be elected as the BOT Chairman of this great movement. The creation of SBGI was without doubt an act of bravery compounded with huge task. We wish to confront headlong the problems that have beleaguered SOUTHERN BORNO. We henceforth want to bring together all the good people of southern Borno and Borno in general to an avenue where we can talk, until our aspirations are entertained. Even if talking is all we can do within SBGI with other interest groups, which I guess is more than that, it will still amount to a

2 major achievement that we can be proud of many years to come. We the member of SBGI have one goal in mind, that is, to ensure the Southern Borno slogan TOGETHER WE CAN became a slogan where common goals are discussed, aspirations are entertained and dreams actualized. SGBI was formed by men and women who are eager to be identified with the positive development of the zone, pursuit of togetherness and understand our people, irrespective of their religion, tribe, ethnic affiliation or political persuasion as long as it is in the overall interest of Southern Borno. I was dazed when some people say they are not invited to take part in the formation of this great organization, when ordinarily it should be a collective task of all sundry. I appeal to them to please step forward and work together with SBGI on the overall interest of the majority who are not here present. While some only heard from friends, some on social media, yet out of love for Sothern Borno and Borno at large they are here today. Some as far as BORNO, LAGOS and United State of America etc. It is everybody s right to be a member, membership is free and invitation is open for all. My dear esteem guests, standard achievements and progress of great people we all talked about with nostalgia, were achieved because those great leaders provided the needed leadership and infected their colleagues with the same determination, the same zeal and proper planning, together with total commitment of their objectives. And this is exactly what we are doing at the SBGI. With persistency and refusal to be discourage or to accept defeat, together we can make some significant statutory changes. As we move to inaugurate the various directorate of the organization, we are today

3 entering its second most critical phase. It will be in other for us not only congratulate ourselves on this remarkable achievement but also acknowledge the fact that we are here on this stage only because of the extraordinary efforts that was put to work by so many people especially those here present. As I look around this hall, I see enthusiasm and expectation among all of us, the burden has now been passed on to us, we dare not fail. Under our general leadership, SBGI will be able to accomplish some of these mission: 1, Reinforce the bond of brotherhood and unity 2, Foster confidence and strengthen our capacity to claim our rightful place and entitlement within Borno state. 3, Protect and defend our interest and welfare. This are no doubt ambitious objectives for every civil society such as ours. The unity we are building in Borno should have no place for bigotry or self-righteousness, it should never tolerate measures which discriminate against any section of the state. It is now our responsibility to work hard louder, so our aim and objectives of this movement can be realized. It has become clear that SBGI is not a threat to anybody s religion, ethnic group, political affiliation or political ambition, members of SBGI belong to different political parties, what matters most is the unity of SOUTHERN BORNO to speak with one voice and take a collective decision on what is good for the whole state. Silence is no longer necessary golden.we owe a duty to ourselves and to SOUTHERN

4 BORNO, to defend ourselves vigorously and to explain ourselves to friends and foes of SBGI unapologetically. We are only trying to chart a new way to our people and find a lasting solutions to their predicament through mutual cooperation and spirit of togetherness. I have no doubt that we have the necessary qualities embedded in most of us because of our background, manner of approach and our attitude towards life. God has never created problem without providing solution. We must find solution to our own problems, and our gathering here today is the beginning of the solution. Yes WE CAN, and TOGETHER WE CAN. On behalf of Southern Borno Global Initiatives, I want to welcome each and every one of you to this historic event especially our local government coordinators and women leaders who came all the way from our eleven local government including MMC and JERE, you are all welcome and we are very proud of your determination, Who despite your tight schedule find time to be here today and attain this august gathering, indeed history will favor you all. We welcome you all and have a pleasant stay. Finally, to our board of trustee, I want to thank you all for your doggedness and commitment in ensuring that this struggle has come to stay.
