2 WHAT IS CONFLICT? Conflict is a struggle. It can be external or internal. *External Conflict: A struggle with someone or something rather than yourself *Internal Conflict: A struggle within your heart or mind
3 FIVE TYPES OF CONFLICT *MAN vs. MAN *MAN vs. HIMSELF *MAN vs. NATURE *MAN vs. SOCIETY *MAN vs. TECHNOLOGY (Man vs. Himself is the only one that is internal. )

5 MAN vs. HIMSELF AN INTERNAL STRUGGLE WITH A PROBLEM WITHIN YOUR HEART OR MIND
6 MAN vs. NATURE A STRUGGLE WITH NATURE (WEATHER OR ANIMAL USUALLY)
7 MAN vs. SOCIETY A STRUGGLE WITH INJUSTICE, BREAKING THE LAW, UNFAIRNESS OF A SET OF RULES
8 MAN vs. TECHNOLOGY A STRUGGLE WITH SOME TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY SITUATION (COMPUTERS, CELL PHONES, INVENTIONS, ROBOTS ETC.
9 LET S SEE IF YOU VE GOT IT! *YOU LL NEED A SHEET OF NOTEBOOK PAPER AND A PENCIL. *NUMBER YOUR PAPER *IDENTIFY THESE SITUATIONS AS Man vs. Man, Man vs. Himself, Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Society, or Man vs. Technology. (In real situations there can be more than one type of conflict. For the following ones, name the one that is most apparent.)
10 #1-TYPE OF CONFLICT? A boy finds himself unjustly accused of a crime and has been put in jail until his trial.
11 #2-TYPE OF CONFLICT? In the woods, a man strays from the rest of his camping group. It becomes dark, and he finds himself alone with a grizzly bear.
12 #3-TYPE OF CONFLICT? A father is forced to fight his neighbors in defense of his land.
13 #4-TYPE OF CONFLICT? A young woman fights to stay alive during a raging blizzard.
14 #5-TYPE OF CONFLICT? A young girl hopes to become the first female starting quarterback at Lincoln High, despite years of tradition and rules.
15 #6-TYPE OF CONFLICT? The Terminator and The Matrix are popular examples of this type of conflict in which man fights against a machine.
16 #7-TYPE OF CONFLICT? Jack didn t know whether he should lie to his parents or not about the F on his report card that he received in math.
17 #8-TYPE OF CONFLICT? Jason received ISS today for not following the school rules about the dress code. His pants were sagging almost to his knees.
18 #9-TYPE OF CONFLICT? Yesterday I was out with a friend at the mall when snow began to fall. I wondered if I should try to make it home or not.

26 #17-TYPE OF CONFLICT? Sarah knew that she could just slip out the window and meet her boyfriend, but would it be worth it if she got caught?
27 #18-TYPE OF CONFLICT? Matt and Sam ran as fast as they could toward the freezer where the last Brown Cow was. Matt got there first so Sam shoved him out of the way and reached in and got that Brown Cow.
28 #19-TYPE OF CONFLICT? A Space Odyssey is an example of this type of conflict where Frank and Dave battle their flight computers.
