A Skipper s Second Best The earth smells rich with grains of sand The salt beneath my toes sticks to me like froyo I taste the air it smells like the beach But here in the mountains do I test my feet The waters feel warm but a trick none the less For the farther you go, the cooler it gets Sick of being treated like an elderly I can walk MYSELF across the street If you don t trust me to move on Then it is the past you must seek The leather bound book contains my thoughts The pink, gooey brain; this is where my thoughts get dropped off Day camp they will stay until the night turns cold Then off and out of my head like how my paper mache must float Signal the captain we are coming in rough waters But before dropping any anchors test the shallow side, it feels warmer Crazy minds they swim while they fight But gentle ones are careful when they know it s time for flight Business as usual says the skipper on deck For he doesn t know when turning the wheel is his second best So come along and sing, while nature rings a ding a ling ding ding Mentally stable in the head but everywhere else A work-in-progress not ready to strive for a skipper s second best Yes, I say, yes; a skipper s second best 2. My Feelings Go Outward and Bound The words that fill my head The poetry of a million ballads A stream that one rows through

2 But the end feels like a waterfall with no ending My boat has a leak in it Duct Tape won t do the trick My paddle is chipped and bruised Using it won t do any good The fear of the falling rain As it glides past the rainforest terrain Contains elements of surprise Like cats and dogs can t still mean the same Fear is one s ultimate demise For the monkeys and sloths that hang from the trees Know it s one s time To set sail on a different river For this one is too chaotic and treacherous My feelings go outward and bound 3. Words of Whisper Careless words that whisper Inside a sea of a million dippers Taking a trip into the cavernous lake One s lake One s cavernous lake It is like a crater But a lake all the same It heats up with bubbles And never ceases in will For will it ever be the same? Cowardly lions They stalk their prey like the jungle isn t already teaming with their own desires

3 Onward into the scriptures I feel the warmth of Jesus As pain is eased and words are lifted You missed something if you didn t see Everyone has already agreed That careless words that whisper Inside a sea of a million dippers 4. Don t Bring the Pain, Take it Away Why ask Why look Why hesitate Why intrude See what one does to me When hate boils inside And love shows only cease to the remedy Why task One s rulest he careless advise The never-ending abuse A writer can be hurt And poetry is the salvation But the treatment of that person comes with malice and despise Like they aren t even a person Treat me like a human Not like some used up piece of trash My trash talk comes out in poetry While yours sits waiting to attack Don t come to me in person Carrying your problems

4 Here we go on a sea of adventures Not a storm of depression For when one s sadness should have already been moved on It is a shame to still deal with it Leaving no frame of being polite to intrude No, instead, a wild manor A form of abuse Don t BRING the pain Be the one to help take it away 5. Come Around It isn t the truth one wants to see Nor the evidence to back up one s pitiful defeat Failure is in the eye of the beholder When failure Shouldn t Wouldn t Couldn t be the root of all evil But a lesson Being done over and over Say what you want to me Say what you want to say My transformation is almost complete The lessons I ve learned Aren t really here to haunt me Take my love with pride Take my salvation And throw away My feelings of security For love and meeting her one day

5 Has always been something stressful to me It is only the mending that needs to be done properly Feel the day that when love comes abound The truth to everyone s knowing Is that it really is hard To come around 6. Make it Back I m going to make it back I m going to make it back To where I once was That happy, gleeful child Where happiness came from the soul Along with from up above My hope My spirit My integrity It is all in the eye of the perceiver Feeling blindly around a room Seeking away from the evil Feelings of dread Feelings of loneliness Feelings of despair All come in strides of patience Knowing you re not there Losing someone is tough Losing a whole group of inspiration givers, Thought bringers Helpful believers Can feel extremely rough

6 But when you re not there It feels more than tough It feels more than rough It feels like that ridiculous barrier Between you and the rest of the world won t ever be coming down It s time to make it back 7. Unease The carrying of emotions can come with a sense of unease Fearing the truth people carry why the feelings one does not see Over arches and through tunnels Beyond carriages bring one s self out of cities Cities immersed with the populous Out for everyone to know Over and under the bridges you go Feelings carry messages And I know it to be so Happiness is still Sadness is quiet Anger rages on While fear hides under the covers never to be discovered My temperament towards everything That stays clear and precise Understanding why questions need to be asked For one s own good advice Being here if not knowing Life stays abound The creativity of others And the ignorance of all Watch it closely

7 Study life Examine it For all or none should truly stay or fall 8. Poetry My poetry Is my life I speak my problems I speak words of advice What words do I advise? I need love I need my family I need my friends And God I need most of all He keeps me feeling Feeling loved most of all But also feeling the tragedies They exist It feels like pressure Holding you down It feels like the weight Too difficult to push around Push it! Fight it! You ve got your troubles They will happen But having people who are there for you Now that is something truly special So don't ever deny that 9. To All My Friends

8 To all my friends Too difficult for it to be true It is not so difficult to say I've screwed up a time or two But the past is the past And we all find faults in our way Remember to look past these wrongs And rights will be there waiting in your paths today To all my friends I see here today Come to make amends It doesn't mean A little spunk with a quick dance Won't be waiting towards the end To all my friends I see here today Waiting, crying, laughing The world is OUR oyster I say to you all Now let's go and yes it is time To go and stop feeling so crabby
