4 Individual Responses 1. What best describes your view of merica? nswer: "I think we ve gotta stick with our founding principles, separation between church and state. nd remember: It was done in the beginning mostly to protect religion from the state. So we need to stick we need to stick with what has worked." 1 2. Do you support a mutual separation between religion and government? nswer: "I am very supportive of the separation of church and state I think the separation of church and state has served us very well, and I will certainly defend it." 2 3. Surveys indicate that there is a great deal of prejudice against the nonreligious in merica. Would you have any hesitation in appointing a well-qualified nontheist candidate to a leadership position in your administration? nswer not available. 4. Would your religious beliefs influence public health care policy as it relates to access for reproductive health care? nswer: [Hillary will] protect women s health and reproductive rights. Women s personal health decisions should be made by a woman, her family, and her faith, with the counsel of her doctor. Hillary will stand up to Republican attempts to defund Planned Parenthood, which would restrict access to critical health care services, like cancer screenings, contraception, and safe, legal abortion. 3 1 Mehta, Hemant. U.S. rmed Forces chaplains provide emotional and moral support without the stigma, confidentiality, and accessibility challenges of mental health services, yet no chaplains represent the 1/4 of service members who are nonreligious, nonbelievers, or humanists. Do you support humanist chaplains joining the Chaplaincy Corps? nswer not available. 8. How will you further climate change policy when key congressional leaders deny the overwhelming scientific consensus that it is happening and that human activity is the primary cause? nswer: "It's hard to believe there are people running for president who still refuse to accept the settled science of climate change. Who would rather remind us they're not scientists than listen to those who are. You don't have to be a scientist to take on this urgent challenge that threatens us all, you just have to be willing to act. 6 4 The Politics of HIV/IDS Prevention 2008: Presidential Candidates Provide Views on Sex Education, Needle Exchange, National IDS Plan, PEPFR.
