Copy the following: 1.An introduction paragraph should be GENERAL. The body paragraphs should be SPECIFIC. Introduction- Grabs readers attention. -Do not be repetitive. Keep it general. -Must be at least 5 sentences. - Do NOT address the articles in the introduction for this essay. - The information you use must be accurate. Do not write something if it is not true. -Thesis statement should be the last sentence of introduction.
Is this an effective introduction? I think censorship can be really bad for the people. I feel censorship is bad for everyone involved. I believe censoring material should not be allowed. In my opinion, censorship is a topic that is very controversial because it can have really bad effects on the people. Affect=influence Effect=result Is this an effective introduction? I think censorship can be really bad for the people. I feel censorship is bad for everyone involved. I believe censoring material should not be allowed. In my opinion, censorship is a topic that is very controversial because it can have really bad effects on the people. Affect=influence Effect=result
Is this an effective introduction? Censorship can be really bad for the people. Censorship is bad for everyone involved. Censoring material should not be allowed. Censorship is a topic that is very controversial because it can have really bad effects on the people. By taking out first person, it already sounds better. What else needs to be changed? THIS is an effective introduction. Censorship can be defined as the control of ideas and information to any sector of a population ( censorship ). Censorship is categorized by moral, political, religious, and militant restrictions. The withholding of information is an extremely controversial topic due to its advantages, as well as its disadvantages. In today s society, it is clear that censoring material from the public, at any age, certainly has overwhelmingly negative effects. The effects of censorship are burdensome to all members of society and should not be permissible due to it is a violation of the first amendment rights and hindering of intellectual freedoms.. WHY?

The effects of censorship are burdensome to all members of society and should not be permissible due to it is a violation of the first amendment rights and hindering of intellectual freedoms.. Background information Definition Claim 1 Thesis Claim 2 Essay Writing: 2. Thesis statement: Keep it general ENOUGH. Whatever you write in the thesis statement will have to be proven in the body paragraphs. If you don't prove it, then you did not accomplish the task of the assignment. Example: Jonas changed from an apprehensive adolescent at the beginning of The Giver by Lois Lowry to an independent free thinker by the end. If this was your thesis statement, what claims could I add?
Essay Writing: Thesis statement: Keep it general ENOUGH. Whatever you write in the thesis statement will have to be proven in the body paragraphs. If you don't prove it, then you did not accomplish the task of the assignment. Example: Jonas changed from an apprehensive adolescent at the beginning of The Giver by Lois Lowry to an independent free thinker by the end because Jonas becomes the Receiver of Memories and learns to love. How many claims should you have in an argumentative essay thesis? 2! The counter claim is not mentioned in the introduction OR the thesis. COPY THE FOLLOWING: 3. The topic sentence of each body paragraph should relate to the thesis statement. REMEMBER: Whatever your topic sentence is for the body paragraph, that means the ENTIRE body paragraph has to be about that one idea. I suggest you write a broad or general topic sentence for the body paragraph so you can include many examples and details. KEEP THE TOPIC SENTENCE GENERAL.
Thesis: The effects of censorship are burdensome to all members of society and should not be permissible due to its violation of the first amendment rights and hindering of intellectual freedoms.. Body Paragraph 1 topic sentence: When information is withheld or tampered with, the fundamental rights of the individual are ultimately taken away. What would Body Paragraph 1 address? What would be an effective topic sentence for body paragraph 2? COPY THE FOLLOWING: Essay Writing: 4. Use correct paragraph format for body paragraphs. SPA Sometimes you will need to put two pieces of evidence in a paragraph. In that case it would be... SPA PA USE TRANSITIONS TO HELP THE PARAGRAPH FLOW Otherwise, ideas become choppy and lead the reader off track. ORGANIZE THE IDEAS FIRST (with some rationale). Use Owl Purdue website for examples of appropriate and effective transitions.
5. Make a counter claim/ argument. A counter argument- is an argument that opposes your thesis, or part of your thesis. It expresses the possible view of a person who disagrees with your position. You must acknowledge the credibility of this opposing claim. Meaning, give a piece of evidence supporting the other view point WHY DO THIS? When done well, it actually makes your argument stronger. This is because it gives you the opportunity to respond to your readers objections before they have finished reading. It also shows that you are a reasonable person who has considered two sides of an argument. Counter claims should be placed AFTER you already presented the case for your thesis. In other words, this would go after all of the main points that support the thesis, but before the conclusion. INTRO BODY- SUPPORT OF CLAIM BODY- SUPPORT OF CLAIM COUNTER-ARGUMENT- OPPOSITE VIEWPOINT CONCLUSION
One could also argue that... -Support (Textual evidence) -Reasoning (credibility- you want people to understand why this is another possibility) - Refute- Acknowledge its validity or plausibility, but suggest why on balance it's relatively less important or less likely than what you propose, and thus doesn't overturn it. Bring the readers attention back to the original cause ultimately discrediting the counter argument. One could also argue that Snickers bars are the best chocolate treat. Statistics show that, "60% of shoppers purchase a Snickers over the variety of candies at the counter" (Healy 252). It is quite clear that people find the irresistibly rich taste of a Snickers bar hard to walk away from. The milk chocolate, caramel, nuts, and nugget prove to be a delectable combination that people have come to love. Nevertheless, the Snickers brand is very well known and a rather safe choice. People tend to stick to what they know which narrows down the selection. If the 100 Grand Bar had a more reputable name, the consumers would be made more aware of this bars chocolatey goodness. Conclusion: -Begin by restating the main idea/topic of your essay. AKA your thesis. - Wrap up the important ideas addressed. - Should keep the reader thinking about the topic after they finish reading. THE SO WHAT FACTOR. - Remember: No new information should be incorporated into the conclusion.
