Tania 2013 Sanchez PORTFOLIO INTRODUCTION This portfolio is about some work I did in class; it has been edited and changed in some parts so it can be almost perfect to turn in. It starts off with a graphic organizer with questions and answers about my community. It continues with a paragraph that describes my definition of community and a little about the community I live in. It follows with 3 different paragraphs that I ve done in class. One is about a time when I felt like an outcast, the second is about my definition of what a real men or women is, and the third one talks all about me. To finish, I added two free writes that I consider that are really good; one talks about my strengths and motivations, while the other talks about my childhood.
Graphic Organizer What does your community consist of? My community consists of many different things, but it mainly contains values, different cultures and different religions. 2. What connects you to your community? What affects your opinion on your community? I m not really connected to my community in any certain way. I usually only connect with people in school or at work. I don t even know half of the people that live in my community because I don t attend to church or any social group. 3. What do you bring to your community? I don t usually bring many things to my community, but when I can I always offer a helping hand and a friend that they can count on. 4. Make a statement that combines 1,2,3. I m usually not very social and helpful in my community, but I know that if I try to socialize and participate in event more often I would love to be around a lot more.
Community My definition of community is just a group of people that live in the same area and share some common interests. Most of them like helping each other to live in a good and peaceful Environment; some others like helping around and making events so they could know there members in the community more. Other people would say that they are part of their community by going to church or maybe to a social group in their city. I live in a small town where I would say that has only one community that doesn t involve ethnical race or religion. I would say this because it is a small town where I think people don t judge each other, and almost everyone here share at least one interest. I ve also known about larger cities that have lots of different communities where it does involve race, religion or sexuality. I ve made a research in the internet and it said that now in days communities are not only specifically about people who live in the same area, but also for people in the internet who share lots of same interests. Most of them build communities via web where they can socialize. Even though people do these things in the internet, I honestly think that we should stick to the old fashion way to build communities. There s nothing better than getting together with people and getting to know them well.
Paragraph 1 The Outcast I haven t felt much like an outcast very often. Maybe it s because I m the type of person that doesn t really care what people think. I remember I was always trying to fit in the crowd, but things changed with time. I remember changing right after I came back from México. I really felt like an outcast, and felt like I wasn t part of the crowd at school. I think they would make fun of me because I got used to speaking more English then Spanish. I would talk in Spanish each time someone would ask me something; that was because I got used to speaking that language. Even though my classmates knew that, they still thought I was weird. I didn t really care at first, but I started to care when I didn t make many friends. Another reason why I felt like an outcast at school was because of the way I dressed. I thought that I dressed good, but apparently for other people I didn t. I don t really know what was the reason they thought I didn t look good. I used almost the same style like everyone else in school; just some jeans, a T- shirt, and Nike shoes. It took time but I learned that you can never please a crowd of people so you need to learn to be yourself instead.
Paragraph 2 The Real Man and Woman My definition of what real men or real women is whenever they do something that makes them look good. People have various definitions or ways to describe a real man and women but I think that none of them are right. When a man does something extraordinary or amazing most girls get impressed, that s what makes them think that he s a real man. There are many ways to describe a Real Man some I ve heard are that, real man don t hit women; the one does everything to support his family, and the one that will do anything for their kids. In a way that does make him a nice man but that doesn t mean he is real. Also for some people when it comes down to being a real women there are much more expectations; supposedly a real women is the one who knows how top cook, clean and being a good wife. In my honest opinion I think that they shouldn t use the expression of being a real man or a real women; everybody has its own abilities and unique stuff that makes them a real human being.
Paragraph 3 - Snapshot Some people think they know me really well. My friends think that they know everything about me, even the smallest little detail, but personally I think no one knows exactly how I really am. I look at my pictures and wonder if the girl in there is really me. I m not talking about the physical features of me; I m talking more about the person I am on the inside. Everybody sees a really happy girl from the outside a really nice girl that is always smiling. Some people don t really know how tough it is to pretend to be so happy all the time when in reality I m really hurting on the inside. I don t like showing my feelings; I don t even like talking about them most of the time. The only place I can truly be myself is when I write. It s not easy always holding it in but I think is the best, even though people say is not. I only have two best friends and they are the only ones I talk about myself once in a while but they don t really know much about how I really am. Some would think that I am in depression but that s not true because I accept that I am a really beautiful girl from the inside as from the outside. I have bad days and good days like most people but I don t like show how I feel at the moment.
Paragraph 4 - My Greatest Strength Tania Sanchez Hernandez My life is filled with difficulties, but that doesn t stop me from getting to achieve my dreams. I have various strengths in my life and that s what motivates me to go on. Life hasn t been fair and sometimes it becomes difficult but that doesn t stop me. One of my strengths and reason to keep going are my parents; they taught me to always fight for what I love and for what I want to become in life. They also taught me to never give up on whatever the circumstance is. They once said that even though I fall I always need to get back up on my feet and keep fighting for what I want. My second strength and motivation in life is my brother. My brother has always been there on good or bad, he always has my back in whatever the situation is; I can count on him for anything. I would probably say that he means everything to me and is the best thing in my life right now. My parents got divorced years ago and it was hard accepting the fact that they would never be together again, but after a while I got it over with and used to having two families. Like I said before, life hasn t been fair for me in so many ways; I think that I still have some trouble on getting my life straight and have a really hard time on focusing on school but I do try my best on everything.
Paragraph 5 The Good Old Days Tania Sanchez Hernandez I really miss my childhood a lot; sometimes I wish that I could Re-live those moments again. I have to admit that I had the greatest childhood of all times, I traveled a lot, played with my cousins all the time and enjoyed special moments with my family more often. When I was a kid everything was perfect, maybe because I didn t knew what kind of world I really lived in. My greatest memory of all was when my dad built my brother and me a swing; the swing was made of old ropes and tires, but it was built with lots of love. Even until this day when we go to my grandma s ranch I see the tire swings hung in the same old tree were my dad built them. I had a lots imagination back then, but like every kid I was also very naïve and would believe anything people told me. The worst thing I thought that could happen when I was a kid was that a monster would come out of my closet at night, or that for Christmas I would get a Chucky doll; the same one from movie Childs Play. My family wasn t wealthy at all, but I thought I was the richest girl in the earth for just having them by my side; I wouldn t trade them or my childhood for anything in the world.
