DVC Mathematics HBA ALeKS Stands for Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces.! It is a web-based, assessment and learning system that uses artificial intelligence.

! ALEKS is like having a personal tutor, so the topics your working on in class won t necessary match what you re doing in ALeKS.

! These assessments are your chance to place out of labs, so do your best!! ALeKS has very few multiple-choice questions, so be prepared to work out problems on paper.

1 DVC Mathematics HBA ALeKS Stands for Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces.! It is a web-based, assessment and learning system that uses artificial intelligence. This artificial intelligence uses adaptive questioning to determine what you know and don t know in this course.! ALEKS then instructs you on the topics you are most ready to learn.! ALEKS is like having a personal tutor, so the topics your working on in class won t necessary match what you re doing in ALeKS.! ALEKS is a third-party vendor, so DVC doesn t make any money from it s use. We cannot purchase ALEKS directly, so it must be purchased through a book publisher, McGraw-Hill.! ALeKS will periodically reassess you to see if you remember and retain what you learned.! Just like any good tutor, ALeKS will have you revisit any topics that you forget.! These assessments are your chance to place out of labs, so do your best!! ALeKS has very few multiple-choice questions, so be prepared to work out problems on paper. It s a good idea to save your notes in case you have to revisit a topic. 2 3! You will need to purchase an ALeKS access code. You can purchase it in the Book Center for about $53, or online from ALeKS for the special DVC price of $40 a discount from the usual price of $60.! Your instructor can give you a free 2-week financial aid code so you can get started right away.! If you have an EOPS Book Voucher, you need use it to purchase ALeKS from the Book Center.! Let s walk through the registration process. 4 ENTER your 10 digit course code. This should be on your syllabus.!!set UP A NEW ACCOUNT!! You must set up a new ALEKS account every semester

ALEKS will run a browser check to make sure you have the necessary software.! If you have problems with this, contact ALEKS (see the last slide for information).! Now you re ready to get started using ALEKS!
