1 Sacred Stones July - August 2014 Crystal of the Month: Infinite By Larry Bassett Background: Infinite is a delightful, nurturing, smooth green serpentine and chrysotile combination believed to originate only from South Africa. Infinite is a marketing trade-name originated by the crystal dealer who owns Rosley's Rocks. Steve Rosley is a long-time friend who searches the world for new crystals. Steve was my only supplier for blizzard stone, infinite, and rhodizite in the 1990s, at the Tucson Gem and Mineral show. Steve told me how he went to South Africa searching for Ajoite and other crystals. He found a green serpentine the local people used for protection, and pulling pain. Steve always holds a naming contest and then meditates on the entries. In 1996 he named this unique form of serpentine infinite. He called it infinite because it seems to have limitless beneficial healing properties. All of the specimens pictured are from Steve. The top is a pillow of smaller pieces that can be placed anywhere on the body and it conforms nicely to an area. The lower left piece is palm sized and it is the wonderful pale green that many call Lemurian Jade. The other darker pieces are more recent as the original pale green color became scarce. The ranges of colors are from a pale to dark green, gray, brown, blue, red, black, and some pieces are said to be translucent. The pale green has a soothing gentle energy while the darker pieces have a stronger energy and both colors quickly remove painful energetic and emotional blockages. Steve says that people gravitate to the pale green or darker colored versions probably based on the issues in their body. He found that athletes loved infinite and this probably created the real demand. Infinite is unlike most other forms of serpentine because it 1

2 quickly removes pain from the body faster than any other crystal. Historically, in South Africa it was used for centuries to protect one from venomous creatures when carried. It was also used to redirect or neutralize poison if one was bitten or stung. The original form of infinite was the beautiful pale green and as that supply was exhausted, a wide variety of colors of serpentine from South Africa are today the most common forms of infinite. Steve was passionate about the pain pulling properties because infinite changed his life. Years later, Steve was selling large quantities of infinite overseas and at much higher prices because people experienced how it removes pain and trapped emotions. Infinite is called the healers stone, worry stone, grief stone, Lemurian jade and the miracle working stone. Infinite is frequently used in shamanic journeying. Shaman love infinite because as an earth element stone, it guides them with its conscious healing energy and it allows them to facilitate incredible healings. Infinite will ground the client, relaxing them, and this allows the energy to heal. The gentle energy is strongly angelic, which removes discordant energy from the emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual bodies. The client is soothed, nurtured, and filled with an inner peace after the release of the emotions and trapped energy. Some claim it has access to the history of the earth and nature through our DNA. It is said to safely activate and balance kundalini energy and promote spiritual growth. Steve has received numerous testimonials on the incredible effectiveness of this stone. Infinite is said to remove dark and discordant energy, close energy leaks, and this heals the aura. Reiki practitioners say it greatly increased the power and effectiveness of the energy they visualize. Many use infinite to get a good, deep sleep when it is placed under their pillow. One of the attributes I love is how it integrates and aligns all past, present, and future possibilities. The angelic assistance and guidance is a common theme. Serpentines are found in abundance worldwide. There is something unique about the serpentine from South Africa. Perhaps it is the result of the hearfelt tears and emotions of the oppressed permeating the land from the years of horrific rascism, hatred, violence, abuse, and discrimination. Infinite is said to help us speak with authority when dealing with others, or our past issues, especially if one uses a small piece with regularity on their throat. Infinite will inspire one to change and stand up for their rights and freedom. Some claim infinite is useful to help one find lost or stolen items. Some say infinite works on a cellular level to dissolve and remove crystallized energetic patterns. Infinite requires frequent cleaning if one is in chronic pain. Many use it to make an elixir. I suggest you only make an elixir if there are no white lines in the serpentine because this will be pure chrysotile. Why I Love This Stone: The physical properties and metaphysical effects of infinite are miraculous. This is a stone that works on the physical, emotional, energetic, mental, and spiritual aspects. Infinite does it all. It is successful where other stones with stronger energy fail because the gentle and nurturing (which many call angelic) energy works through love, rather than force. Infinite has access to the information, our history, stored in our DNA. This allows the energy of infinite to bring to our attention the judgments, emotions, and issues we created in our past as well as in this life. Infinite works on all aspects, which allows you to release your limiting creations. Infinite gives you a determined focus on the past and present so you can release, forgive others and yourself, to release and resolve the baggage and blockages concerning all past events, lives, relationships, traumas, guilts, and so much more. Infinite helps you understand and finally release these judgments, guilts and associated emotions so you can forgive yourself and the others involved. Always remember that the world is your mirror. What you see is your issue and what you did to others, you also did to yourself. Infinite creates a sacred spiritual space as it releases the painful emotions trapped in the body. This gives you the opportunity to understand, release, and resolve the emotional and mental issues you think about and feel when you hold a piece of infinite. Through my own experiences and listening others, I believe disease and illness are either through malnutrition, or our judgments, subsequent guilt, and trapped lower emotions. Show me a pain that has no emotional aspects. Any emotional issue will at sometime manifest as disease. It feels as if infinite works through the heart to do its effective work. It facilitates the gentle integration of the past with the present. The physical aspect is that the nurturing energy of infinite releases the trapped pain better and faster than any other crystal. It contains a highly spiritual energy that works on the emotional and other aspects of the body. It feels good to hold and work with infinite. Some claim it helps them cope, especially if they are dealing with issues of grief, loss, separation, or betrayal. Composition: Infinite is a complex form of serpentine. Serpentine is a common rock-forming hydrous magnesium, iron, phyllosilicate. Serpentine is a large group of related minerals that include antigorite and chrysotile. Normally no distinction is made between them except for scientific study and classification. Antigorite normally represents the solid forms and chrysotile represents the fibrous forms, consisting of four types, clinochrysotile (the most common), orthochrysotile, parachrysotile, and lizardite (the original name for green serpentine). Each of these chrysotiles have a unique 3

4 crystalline structure. Fibrous chrysotile, a type of asbestos, can cause mesothelioma and lung cancer. Many crystal collectors avoid this form and it is a good rule to keep this away from your nose and mouth and always wash your hands after handling. Infinite as a serpentine is complex and it is said to have a chemical formula of (Mg 6 [(OH) 10 /Si 4 O 10 ]+Al,Cr,Fe,Mn,Ni), while some say it has a chemical formula of (Mg,Fe 2+,Ni) 5 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4. The reality is it can have numerous formulas. Chrysotile has a chemical formula of Mg 3 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4 and was named from the Greek word chrysos meaning gold and tilos meaning fiber. Chrysotile as an asbestos, is the ingredient in tiger eye and tiger iron and it is beautiful because of the chatoyant crystal patterns you see in these sacred stones. Today, because the early find is exhausted, the infinite from South Africa has many different colorings and additional minerals. Physical Properties: Infinite has a hardness of 2.5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale. It will streak white and it comes in every color. It will have a greasy, waxy, to silky luster. It will fracture conchoidally to splintery. It can be brittle, fibrous to flexible, and elastic. It will be translucent to opaque, and rarely transparent. There are people who will scare you by saying there is asbestos in the serpentine and this is a potential cause of lung cancer. Studies showed that for all the lawsuits dealing with asbestos workers, only those workers who smoked got lung cancer. Naturally, any stone that contains lead, asbestos, mercury, and other dangerous minerals, caution and common sense must prevail. The white lines now found in samples of infinite are asbestos and it would be prudent to refrain from digging the asbestos out and inhaling it. Since asbestos has a hardness of 2.5, caution is advised when your infinite contains white lines. Experiences: Steve Rosley became a good friend and we always looked forward to seeing him at the Tucson Gem and Mineral show. Steve had the market for infinite for a number of years and I bought a fair amount of large, beautiful pale green pieces, also known as Lemurian jade. In the early days I could buy palm size pieces for $5. The pieces were smooth, gentle, and incredibly powerful pain removers. When professional athletes and others discovered the pain removing properties, the demand and prices skyrocketed. I had a lot of infinite and this was often the useful bargaining tool when I was trading crystals with others. They were happy to get the infinite and I was very happy to get what they wanted to trade. There are some who say the pale green is the gentlest infinite and the darker colors are more intense. I am unsure if I agree with this because the energy is conscious and it always responds to the needs of the client, giving them as much energy as they can safely handle. In the classroom, infinite is one of the stones everyone gravitates to and loves to hold. We saw students holding the on practically every part of the body. Some would hold it for 4

5 hours until their pain left. Students loved to work with infinite. Bodyworkers who used infinite in their practice found it one a miracle worker because everyone has some physical or emotional pain. Recommended Uses: Infinite is beneficial anywhere it is placed and many just carry it to lower chronic pain at a manageable level. A few claim it protects them from harm. Most bodyworkers place it on the painful area to quickly unblock the energy and release the pain. I find the energy always goes to where it is most needed and you will also experience this when you begin to feel and follow the conscious energy of crystals. Touching the skin is always the most effective and it is sometimes necessary to breathe through the release of the pain and emotions. Experience has shown the emotions are the worst and the most painful of all disease and injury. When you understand that you did it to yourself, it is only a matter of forgiveness and compassion. Infinite is a stone of wonderful energy and it requires less cleansing than other crystals. If you are a bodyworker, it only makes sense to cleanse all of the crystals used in a session as a courtesy for the next client. Essential Oils: Essential oils are powerful healers, most require dilution with a carrier oil, some are photosensitive, and there are very dangerous contraindications when clients are on medications, or if they have certain medical conditions. Every sacred stone works well with all essential oils. Meditations: Kathy began with the large pale green piece pictured lower left. She felt the energy immediately in her hands and feet. It felt as if the sun were shining through this stone and lighting up her body as it dispelled pain and darkness. She felt the energy in her heart expand throughout her body, and the effects worked deeply on painful areas that were hurt during childhood. She left her body as the energy swirled, pulsed, and created waves. When she returned, she had no memory of where she went. I began with the same large pale green piece and a smaller piece in the other hand. I felt a calm clarity as I began the process of listening to God. I soon became aware of the presence of my guides, angels, and others present. I felt the gentle and loving energy of infinite in my heart and throughout my body, connecting me to the aspects of my life that involved mistakes and improper words or actions. I found myself releasing and forgiving myself, and others, as I saw the true root of my issues. The roots 5

6 of my discomfort were my thoughts, actions, judgments,and subsequent guilt. I also had to release the programming I and everyone received that was related to why we acted in those limiting ways. Kathy began with two darker colored pieces. She again felt a relaxing and nurturing energy. This was an energy that felt different, stronger is what others day, she felt it was a deeper and a more persistent energy. She again felt it working on areas from her childhood and this time the emotional aspects of the experience were being lessened. She soon left her body or fell asleep, and when she returned she felt nurtured and forgiven. I began with the the egg shaped darker green pieces. This energy was vastly different from the pale green. It seemed to have a no nonsense type of energy that meant business. I felt a deep love from these pieces and the aches and pains of packing, moving, and unpacking lessened as I held them. I felt a joy in my body that often comes with the crystalline communion one experiences when they love a crystal and that love is returned and exceeded only by the crystal itself. It was a wonderfully renewing meditation. Miscellaneous: Infinite is challenging to find in high quality and at a reasonable price. Infinite like other crystals, has skyrocketed in price because everyone seems to want it. Infinite in all forms will vibrate to all numbers. Infinite is associated with the planet Earth and the Earth element. Infinite connects to and aligns, then balances all chakras. It is extremely beneficial for the crown and all higher chakras. Infinite is used in Feng Shui in the Center Health position to create balance, calm, and good health. It is placed in the Northwest area for self-cultivation, and wisdom. It is placed in the Southwest area for love, partners, and relationships. Infinite is used to disperse incoherent and negative energy from any location or specific area. It is used in any space to create change. Infinite is said to be associated with the astrological sign of Taurus. Infinite in various forms allows the body to heal on all levels and it is beneficial to ameliorate the effects of abuse, adrenals, anxiety, betrayal, blood pressure, cells, circulation, connective tissue, cramps, depression, digestion, fatigue, gallbladder, grief, inflammation, intestines, joints, knees, loss, menstrual issues, muscles, nausea, nervousness, pain, respiratory systems, self-esteem, separation, skeleton, skin, stomach, stress, swelling, tension, thymus, toxicity, trauma, veins, vision, and worry.
