Dreams create a bridge between these two worlds. Jung sees the dream as the steady endeavor of the unconscious to create the best possible equilibrium in the psyche. Dreams are a means to establish a homeostatic balance, or at least to show the dreamer what would be necessary to achieve this balance. In this book, with the help of numerous examples, Dr. Nell explains the efficacy of dream interpretation when working with couples, individually and in groups, in the diagnosis and treatment of emotional disturbances. Psychotherapists of many different schools use dreams in individual therapy, but very few use them in counseling Studies in Jungian Psychology by Jungian Analysts Marie-Louise von Franz, Honorary Patron Daryl Sharp, Publisher & General Editor ISBN pp. Index. Indeed, marriage and family therapists often have no experience in this area because dream interpretation is seldom included in their training. Renée Nell, Ph.D. ( ), founded the Jungian residential treatment center, The Country Place, in Litchfield, CT, where she served for many years as director and senior therapist. The Use of Dreams in Couple Counseling was translated from the original German by Sandra S. Jellinghaus. There is a brief excerpt in the Jung at Heart newsletter, no. 42. Title 111 Most Recent Titles Title 112 Margaret Eileen Meredith THE SECRET GARDEN Temenos for Individuation ISBN (2005) 160 pp. Index. Sewn $18 This engaging study grew out of the author s abiding interest in gardening as a metaphor for the process of individuation. It circumambulates the psychology and rich symbolism associated with gardens and secrets, with particular reference to The Secret Garden, the much-loved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. We read here of the reality of the psyche, the importance of symbols, imagination and play in the pursuit of self-knowledge. We learn about sacred time and sacrifice, and how these relate to the analytic process. We learn of gardening Magic, of rituals and how to address our fallow periods times we feel flat and uncreative. We are reminded of how the mysterious transcendent function may manifest in our darkest hour. We read here of soul. Many more motifs associated with gardens, secrets and the process of individuation are explored, with dream examples and a summary of the Burnett novel. 14 illustrations. Margaret Eileen Meredith, B.Sc.N., M.A., is a graduate of the Jung Institute in Zurich. She practices in Toronto, Canada. Daryl Sharp NOT THE BIG SLEEP On having fun, seriously ISBN (2005) 128 pp. Index. Sewn $18 With this book, The Brillig Trilogy (Chicken Little, Who Am I, Really? and Living Jung) becomes The Brillig Quartet. In this volume, the author and the redoubtable Professor Adam Brillig collaborate to create a sparkling love story, salted with balls and ball games, Eros, desire contained and the unpredictable world of the psyche, grounded at all times in the classical precepts of Jungian psychology: individuation, typology, complexes, active imagination, projection, conflict, enantiodromia, the holding of tension and the transcendent function. Jung often noted that the movement from three to four was difficult but psychologically crucial. As expressed in the alchemical Axiom of Maria One becomes two, two becomes three, and out of the third comes the one as the fourth we must regularly reassess where we are in our pursuit of wholeness. Read all about it in this author s latest foray into the unknown. Daryl Sharp, B.Sc., B.J., M.A., is the author of twelve other titles in this series. He is a graduate of the Jung Institute in Zurich.
