Dr Newton Kondaveti and his wife Dr Lakshmi, world renowned Regression Therapists, addressed the Rotary meeting on the topic Know Thyself on 22nd December. Drs. Newton and Lakshmi had established the Life Research Academy in Hyderabad in 2000, primarily to heal patients through the Past Life Regression. The Academy has since gone on to include other method of offering solace to those that are suffering in mind and body and are seeking to find their true selves. Talking about his journey to his present calling, Dr. Newton said, growing up with his grand-parents, which made him feel abandoned by his mother; his anger caused him to indulge in self-destructive ways. The Real I inspiration to him, too would constantly exhort his followers to meditate on Who am I?. He said that our present identity is based on our outer appearance, the many faces/persona we wear, but if we delve deep there is no identity, only stillness within. Meditation is a wonderful tool to reach our deeper self. Whoever starts the inner journey is bound to get a revelation/ realization. During a mediation session, Dr. Kondaveti saw himself as a Buddhist Monk in one of his previous lives. He then understood his involvement in this life PRESIDENT Rtn. M Sesha Sai The turning point came when he read Richard Bach s Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a book presented to him by his father. Thereafter, he excelled in studies and joined the Medical College of Kurnool. Through all this, he still sought the purpose of life. The spiritual books and scriptures gave him knowledge, but not understanding. He found his answer in meditation, to which a Guru introduced him in 1989, which he practices to this day. Bhagwan Ramana Maharshi, who was a great with the Buddhist 8-fold path and their panchasilas. He also started exploring reincarnation and past lives. Most suffering, for any individual, come from body, mind and emotions.one simple solution is to know one s self, which liberates one from the sufferings. This process ofself-discovery, of realizing the soul, is called the Science of the Soul. Referring to Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa s story of zero & one, he explained that one may achieve many things in life, but unless he understands his inner magnificence, he is incomplete.self-enlightenment makes all the difference. The Kingdom of God that the Old Testament talks about is in every one of us. Every one of us is a God being. Once we realize that, we know that we are not different from one another, we know that we are one with the Universal Whole. Unless the lessons of this level are learnt, one cannot progress to the next level. Speaking of the search for one s true self, Dr. Lakshmi said we do see this in children when they ask questions like where did I come from? and how did I get into my mother s womb?. But since the answers are unconvincing, the children become perplexed. As we grow up we become very busy with material pursuits. Though we achieve many things, there still is something missing, some questions unanswered. One can get to know oneself, and understand many of the phobias and illnesses one suffers by going through past life regression. What you are today is the sum total of all our past, which includes our past from this lifetime as well as from our previous lifetimes.past Life Regression gives one a chance to understand life and helps to balance one s life in a better way leading to spiritual growth. The minutes of 15th Dec 15 was duly confirmed. President welcomed the guest speaker Dr. Newton Kondaveti & his wife Dr Lakshmi. Dr Newton M.D. is a medical doctor reputed for his innovative healing and transformative methods based on the underlying principle of Know Thyself Heal Thyself. He is a pioneer in the field of Past Life Regression. President welcomed Probus Club Namasivayam & Ms Mala, guests introduced by members, spouses & inner wheel members and visiting Rtn Kadhir who attended the meeting. President wished members/spouses who celebrated their birthday/wedding anniversaries and thanked them for their sunshine. President reminded members about the full club fellowship hosted by some of the Madras Club members on 27th Dec 15.He requested members to adhere to the dress code regulations of the Madras Club. Rtn Linesh is in touch with the hosts for organizing the fellowship and requested members to attend in large numbers. Details will also be circulated in our yahoogroups. President said that our main fund raiser Golf Event is scheduled for January 29th and 30th 2016 at Prestige Golfshire, Bangalore. Requested members to support largely as the proceeds will be helpful for our existing projects. PP C S Devapragasam, Mentor, gave an outline on the Keemallur village project adopted by RCM. He recounted how our sanitation project & flame project made RCM known nationally & internationally and also our role in eradication of polio being accepted & acknowledged in the Rotary world. He further added that the Keemallur village has been taken this year by RCM for Rural development, adjoining our RCMBT facility at Gummidipoondi.RCM has planned to construct 100 toilets,which is scheduled to be completed in the end of February He thanked President Venkhat Ramani / DG C R Raju for the simplified grant (around Rs 12 lacs) received from the District. The objectives for the rural development will be sanitation, toilets, RO Plant, education & hygiene. Rtn Dr R.Chandrasekar, Director Community Service briefed members on the financial aspects and said that Rs 15,500 will be the cost of building a toilet. He highlighted that efforts are on to get more subsidy from the Government and informed that villagers themselves are providing laborers for building the toilet.rcm contribution approximately will be around Rs 1,54,000. He hoped that the 100 toilets will be completed by February end and stated that the inauguration will take place in a grand way. President commended the great efforts of Director Rtn S Ravi. The above report with narration was shown by a detailed PPP. Rtn PP George B Cherian, Dist Chair, UTSAV informed members that a core team of 8 members will be formed to give details/ developments of the District Conference UTSAV. He requested members to interact with them for the updates. He said that a unique initiative titled, Rotary Expo has been taken this year where stalls on education, health, lifestyle, and environment will be exhibited adjacent to the District Conference.PR activities are in full swing and this Expo is open to outsiders. Along with Rtn Kadhir, Addl Chair Expo released the Rotary Expo brochure with the President. President informed members that our PDG JB Kamdar fulfilled his commitment of Rs 50,000 US dollars to the TRF and thanked him for the same. President said that for the flood relief rehabilitation, a core committee will be formed, headed by PP S Gunashekar &co-chaired by Rtn Ashok Thakkar. Secy Rtn Rajasekar Gorantla said that a photo cd capturing the Karaikudi to Kodambakkam fellowship hosted by Rtn M Balasubramanian is available at the reception for members. Rtn Prabha Srinivasan introduced the speaker Dr. Newton Kondaveti, M.D., a Medical Doctor, Self-Realized Master, Spiritual Scientist, Past Life Regression Therapist, Healer, and Teacher, all rolled into one. Dr. Newton Kondaveti and his wife Dr. Lakshmi spoke on Know Thyself and shared their experiences aided by a PPT. An interesting Q&A session followed the speech. President presented mementos to Dr Newton & Dr Lakshmi and our clubs 80 year history book A Timeless Legacy on behalf of RCM. Rtn Vasanthi Vasudev thanked the speakers for emphasizing the importance of selfknowledge and how regression therapy can actually help us to know ourselves and find happiness. People who have self-knowledge can be happy and only people who are happy can serve others. The meeting was then adjourned. 4 4 Bulletin of The Rotary Club of Madras Edition 24 December 22, 2015 Members of Probus Club at Boys Town Members of the Probus Club visited and interacted with the boys at Boys Town at Gummidipoondi on 20th December. Mr. R.T. Namasivayam, Prof. N. Ramanathan, Mr. N Rammohan and Mr. Annadurai spoke about various topics that kept the boys interested and engaged.the Executive Committee and members of the Probus Club said they had a satisfying day with the students & staff of Boys Town. They thanked RCM and Rtn. Ravi for arranging such a wonderful visit. R.T. Namasivayam, while speaking about creativity was able to elicit very good definitions for creativity. Late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kamal s quotes on creativity were read out. The intangible forms of creativity (musical compositions, scientific theory) and the concrete forms (paintings) were discussed. Mr. Namasivayam told the boys to never be afraid of experimenting with their ideas. If the inventor of mobile phones was afraid to test out his idea we would have been deprived of a very useful tool today. An interesting exercise was carried out. The figure of 8 was written on the blackboard and students were asked to create ideas centered on the number. This brought overwhelming participation from the boys. Rtn. S. Ravi summed up in his own inimitable style on creativity. Prof N. Ramanathan, Retired Scientist, DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation) of Ministry of Defence, and Founder HOD (CSE), Amrita University, Coimbatore spoke to the boys on his experience in development of attention for details, proper planning, hard work and perseverance even in the face of failure. Failures are Stepping Stones to Success. Prof. Ramanathan said most first attempts in launching space rockets and missiles were failures,and many lessons were learnt from these failures, based on which improvements were made. Prof Ramanathan pointed out other wonderful facets of Dr. Kalam, his cleanliness, concern for ecology and the saving of mother earth. Civic sense, he said, must be inculcated from boyhood. The students evinced keen interest and curiosity both in Dr. Kalam and in the military and were full of questions. Mr. N. Rammohan, speaking on tradition or Parampariya Vazhakkam, said traditionally all good habits were associated with God. For example, thoppukaranam is supposed to activate the blood circulation especially to the brain, which is good for health. This thoppukaranam is done in front of God Ganesha. Joint-family system, which was our tradition, where at the minimum three generations lived together under one roof, inculcated many good traits in children such as respecting elders, adjusting with people and environment for the good of everybody, disciplined behavior and team work to name a few. Speaking of team work, he narrated the wellknown tale of the hare and the tortoise, but with a twist. After losing to the tortoise, the hare called for another race where it ran continuously and won. Following this, both the hare and the tortoise came to an understanding and decided to pool their strengths. The hare carried the tortoise on his back on land and the tortoise carried the hare on his back across the river! With team work they achieved the best results with least effort. Hare is Tamil is called Muyal, tortoise is called Aamai and Muyalaamai means not trying. The message Mr. Rammohan left the boys with is that both the Muyal and the Aamai can win, but Muyalaamai can never win. Mr. M. Annadhurai, Senior Manager (Retd), ICICI Bank, Chennai, speaking to the boys on perseverance, said perseverance was steady persistence in a course of action or a purpose. It is a continuous process, which had no place for the words stop or quit. To succeed in one s goal, hard work towards achieving the goal inspite of hindrances was necessary. There is a relation between perseverance and success. When people around you notice you for your perseverance, you will reap benefits in your career as well as in business. Your perseverance is your sole responsibility. No one can share that responsibility. A rich or city background are necessary for success. The proof that people from village and poor backgrounds too can succeed are Dr. Abdul Kalam, The great leader Kamarajar, Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There is no need to fear failure. You only need to persevere. A child learning to walk falls many times before learning to walk. This is what needs to be done in work or business. Perseverance is not limited to an age or stage in life. Students should understand this and practice it from an early stage to attain great success.

5 5 Bulletin of The Rotary Club of Madras Edition 23 December 15, 2015 Tony and Vinolia s Fireside The Fireside has to be one of the best inventions of Rotary International. Meetings are good and fellowships are great fun but Firesides are unique. Why? Because the host is different each time, the guests are different each time, the food is different each time and each experience is unique and most enjoyable. When you think of a Fireside, you picture a cozy, warm and intimate gathering of friends or relations sitting around a fire and sipping a hot drink and chatting. Tony and Vinolia pulled of an amazing feat of turning a gathering of around 60 of our Rotarians and spouses into a warm, cozy and fun evening. A warm welcome on arrival, a quick drink at the upper level and you were then thrown into the cauldron on the lower level where hectic action was on. Each group was buzzing with activity and the latest news. The hottest piece of news was something concerning our Rotary, which was made known to the lucky few in one group and will officially be made known to the Club shortly. Imagine discussing the Rotary at a wild party. You can lead a horse to water but you just can t take the Rotary out of a Rotarian. Christmas Carols commenced and the party really took off. Everybody decided to sing along! Tune was clearly not an essential requirement and there was even one who sang a totally different song. The enthusiasm was infectious, nobody else noticed and all were happy. The action then turned to the dance floor and some amazing stuff was seen. Sonika, Asha, Indira Hande, Archana, Rajshriand the other ladies did a dance which started off like Walk like an Egyptian, changed suddenly into something from Mad Max and ended with a blast from Star Wars. The guys including starslinesh, George and Jai tried their best to compete but its hard with the ladies zapping you with strange hand movements and leaping from side to side. Round one to the Ladies. The band was superb and Vinolia personally selected the songs and her choice was outstanding. By the way, in spite of all the competition from all the energetic and imaginative younger dancers, the couple which showed everyone the door, in terms of style, grace and enthusiasm was PDG Benjy and Ann Valsa. Benjy was the best choice for the guys to send for the Walk like an Egyptian competition but better sense prevailed, as we have much need of Benjy in the future for Rotary stuff. Vinolia and Tony were wonderful hosts. On the one hand, warm and welcoming and on the other handjumping into the action of singing and dancing with everyone else. Tony was enjoying himself so much that by the end of it all I think he forgot that this was his own party. Jokes aside, great job done Tony and Vinolia, it was a lovely Fireside.
