Governor, Dr. H R Bhardwaj, who delivered the introductory remarks lamented that because of the delays and the high cost involved the poorer sections of society are not getting justice. The special lecture under the auspices of the Bhavan on Feb 7, was for an endowment to commemorate the memory of Dr. G. Srinivasa Murthy, a well-known Ayurvedic Physician and social activist. Focusing his attention on leading an old age both mentally and physically, referred to writings of Charaka Acharya and Sushrutha which make it clear that the span of human life is 100 years. This, he said, can be achieved if the individual adheres to the Dr. B.S. Sreedhar AYURVEDA WAY TO RENDER AGEING HALE, HEARTY Ruthu Charya and Dina Charya. Explaining the two norms, Dr. Sreedhar said Ruthu Charya entails consuming food in accordance with the Ruthus, like orange and ballad seeds, in Sishira, mango and watermelan in Vasantha, etc. Dina Charya, according to him involved daily exercises limited food, avoiding items that may cause physiological and mental disturbance coupled with adequate rest. Besides Dr. Sreedhar added that Karma of previous birth also played a vital role in the health of an individual. Dwelling on the word Geriatrics, he explained the word is derived from Geron which means old age and atrology (disease). About Pancha Karma, Dr. Sreedhar said the system comprises five types of treatment ie Virochan, (Purgation) Vamana (vomiting), 6

hot rice. Nor should milk added to curd rice. He warned that unboiled milk might cause Psoriasis. He said Chyavanaprasha does not help an old man becoming young.

11 After lying low for quite some time. Bhavan s Kodagu Vidyalaya all of a sudden has hit headlines. And that with a big bang. According to Sri. T.G. Prem Kumar, Member of the Executive Committee of the Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishat (KRVP), the Pico-Hydo model project, designed by the student team of the Vidyalaya with N. Ujwal Narayan in the lead has won appreciation at the national level. The project is about how electricity could be generated at low cost by using river resources. The team was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Vice-Chancellor of the Benares Hindu University. The Vidyalaya team was one of the 30 from the state which BHAVAN S KODAGU VIDYALAYA SCORES AT NATIONAL LEVEL attended the five-day national level science convention sponsored by the Benares Hindu University. Sri Prem Kumar said the convention had enlightened the growing minds giving an overall view of the development of science in recent times. The Vidyalaya team besides Ujwal Narayan, included Nihar Anil, Vignesh Vasanth, Taha and Nischel Bheemaiah.
