1 The Heart Beat of Sacred Heart Mother Nature played an important role Monday evening in the celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The severe rain storm caused a power outage in Williamson and our mass was celebrated with no electricity in the church. As you entered the church, the altar was lit by many candles; all shapes and sizes. The tall candles were placed by the ambo and several candles were placed on the front and back altars to provide light. Jerry opened the side door to give some natural light. Despite the storm, thirty-two faithful parishioners gathered in the darkness to celebrate the Assumption. As Fr. Tom, Ron Rumora and Judy Baker processed up the isle to the altar, Julie Miles led us in singing. The feeling of serenity and peace was all around, and the presence of God was evident. The calmness in the eye of the storm certainly gave the celebration an entirely new meaning. Many of the parishioners used the light from their cell phones to illuminate the pages of the missal. Janie even had her Mickey Mouse battery operated hand fan. She s always prepared! Chris Jessie read the first and second readings and Fr. Tom the gospel. As Fr. consecrated the Body and Blood of Christ, the new bells rang softly and their echo resonated the perfect sound. Each part of the mass seemed to be particularly expressive. It made you think this could have been the scene during the actual Assumption of Mary so many hundreds of years ago when their only means to light the darkness was by candles. (Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. John1; 5) ASKING GOD S BLESSING ON THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR A wise person will hear, and will increase learning; and a person of understanding shall attain wise counsel. Proverbs 1:5 + Let us pause and recall that the All-Knowing and Ever Present God is here with us. Glory to You, God of All Creation. Glory to You, O Christ, our Model and Teacher, Glory to You, O Spirit Most Holy Who leads us to knowledge, creativity and holiness. Our Sacred Heart young ones; Casey, John, Pevaga, Rodney, Kristine, Nina, Miehl, JP, Merielle, Ethan, and Katlyn returned to their respective schools this past Thursday. This has been a busy summer for them and they seemed to be ready for the new school year. Please remember to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they begin another phase of their lives. Also, remember to keep Dominic Gentile, Christopher Hurley, Jarred Workman, and Blaine Vance in your prayers as they begin and continue their journey in college. We also need to remember our parishioners that teach in our school system; Lisa Halliwell, Debra Santers, and Pat Staten. The school system is blessed with your presence and knowledge! Young people say, what good can one person do? What is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time, take one step at a time, we can be responsible only for the one action of the present moment. But we can beg for an increase of love in our hearts that will vitalize and transform all our individual actions, and know that GOD will take them and multiply them as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes.
2 Fr. Bill Petro for celebrating mass with us again this weekend. We are so pleased for him to be on the altar once again with our Sacred Heart family. Fr. Bill s elbow is healing well and he was able to button his shirt last week. His next goal is to raise his arm to touch his nose. We re praying for you! Thank you to the Filipino Community for the great brunch served last weekend. Everything was so good. Thank you to all who bring dishes and help to clean-up after the meager meals! Again, have we decided what a meager meal is? To ALL our parishioners who celebrate August birthdays and anniversaries. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniersary! To Sam and Janice, Lisa and Andy for the special brunch to celebrate the 90th birthday of our sweet Granny Glover! Thank you to all who remembered June on this special occasion. Happy Birthday June! Fr. Tom and Johnny Venturino for sharing your landscaping skills last Thursday. They were seen trimming the trees on the parking lot side in front of the rectory. Johnny has powered washed all the concrete around the church and parking lot. Great job! To the parishioners who have purchased the water and soft drinks for the Ladies Altar Society Booth at the King Coal Festival. We re off to a great start! Thank you everyone! So glad to see Dr. Leo and Millie sitting in their pew and on the altar last weekend. They ve been vacationing with their daughter Kristine in beautiful Venice and Greece. Leo was sharing pictures with everyone during our brunch. Also, it was so good to have Julie 2 in her pew and praying the Devine Mercy Chaplet last Sunday. Also, Casey s beautiful voice was heard from the choir and when she cantered! David, Julie, and Casey vacationed in several different South Carolina cities, as well as Atlanta, Ga. We re glad you enjoyed your trip! What a joy to see our friend Carola Rivas sitting with the choir last weekend! Carola s home is located in Venezuela. She s such a delight and her smile was an added addition to the choir. Welcome back to Wild Wonderful West Virginia. Those who Face Book were able to follow the weekend adventures of Joseph, Pia, JP, Lee, MJ, Marielle, Liam, Jameson, Lydia, Noel, Mae, Lance, and several other friends. They all gathered to share in the adventures and fun at the Breaks Interstate Park in southeastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia, in the Jefferson National Forest. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. Who won the boat race????? Many Thanks To The Good stewards of God s GifTs Remember, each and every one of us is the Heart Beat of Sacred Heart! COME AND SUPPORT YOUR PARISH!
