Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. 7 SUNDAY SCHOOL - February 10th ~ Vision Statement ~ To be a community of engaged and educated young Orthodox Christians. ~ Mission Statement ~ To encourage and foster spiritual growth of young people in our Orthodox Faith. VPK- Kindergarten: Hrysoula Mitropoulos & Donna Thomson Attendance: 1st - 3rd grades Jonna Myatt We did our last lesson on prayer. This time the class learned the "Five-Finger prayer". It's a fun method to teach young kids who to pray for. They can just look at their fingers and hopefully remember the lesson:) Thumb is the strongest finger -pray for your family. The pointer finger- pray for those who point you in the right direction (teachers,doctors,priests). The middle finger is the tallest - pray for those in authority (government). Ring finger is the weakest- pray for the weak, the sick and the suffering. And finally the little finger - prayers for our own needs. The students also got to decorate and take home their beautiful wooden prayer boxes! Attendance: 7 4th - 6th grades: Daphne Courey & Anastasia Theodorou We talked about the use of censers in our worship to God, both in Divine Liturgy service and at home. God instructed Moses at Mt. Sinai on how to make holy and pleasing worship to the Lord. He told Moses that burning fragrant incense on the altar was a holy offering to be done only for the Lord. Today, when we cense our homes in front of the icons we are showing that our house is a holy place and we are part of God s family. We talked about the different parts of the censer used by Father and what they symbolize. The children already knew that the smoke from the burning incense represents our prayers rising to Heaven. We also did a toy censer craft and the class had a lot of fun! Attendance: guests 7th - 8th grades: Fred & Jackie Cannaverde We opened with Be the Bee #45 Three Things You Need to Know About the Bible. Discussed how important the Bible and the reading of the Bible is in everyday life and how the Orthodox Church uses the Bible in all of it services. We then finished going over all the Epistles and the missionary journeys of St Paul. Another fun video was shown that illustrated how and where St Paul traveled and that his travels equaled to 3 ½ times across the United States. Attendance: 6 7

8 Drive Thru the New Testament Lenten Study Series on Wednesday St. Katherine Hellenic Community Center 5965 N Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida Our Lenten Study will take us through all the places we read about this past Fall in our Orthodox Study Bibles. On Wednesday nights during Great Lent, beginning on March 13 and running through April 17, 2019, starting around 7:00 PM (following Pre-Sanctified Liturgy which begins at 5:30 PM and our Lenten Potluck that follows), we will be offering the latest series from Dave Stotts and the Drive Thru History team. This time out Dave will travel to all the places mentioned in the New Testament beginning with Jerusalem and ending with Patmos. This is an 18-part series that we will cover with three ½ hour episodes at a time each Wednesday evening (thus the earlier start time for the Pre-Sanctified Liturgy). We encourage you all to bring a Lenten dish for our Potluck following services. Once everyone has got their food and found a seat, we will begin playing the video. Dave brings his characteristic humor, archeological, historical and biblical knowledge to life as he visits all these Christian sites, (many of which have Orthodox churches built on them).
