5 Biblical Foundations Discuss: fruit gifts skills and how they possibly intersect in leadership Discuss: How does knowing your gifts & strengths affect your leadership? Discuss: How does knowing the gifts & strengths of your team affect effectiveness?

6 Spiritual Fruit Purpose: This is to my Father s glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15:8) Process: If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit (John 15:5b) Fruit for the Kingdom: Souls won to Jesus (John 15:16) Personal fruit: Love-joy-peace-patience-kindnessgoodness-gentleness-self-control (Gal. 5:22-23)

7 Spiritual Fruit Personal - Spiritual Habits Solitude relationship with the LORD Alone time with the LORD - Be Still (Psalm 46:10) Prayer speak to God Personal Intercessory WORD God speaks to us Receive & Respond Community relationship with the people Engage & Encourage (Inspired by: Blanchard, Lead Like Jesus, ch. 5)

8 Spiritual Gifts Purpose: to equip his people for acts of service That the body of Christ may be built up Until we all reach unity in the faith And become mature fullness of Christ (Eph 4:13) List: Apostles prophets-evangelists-pastors-teachers (Eph.4) Wisdom-knowledge-faith-powers-prophecy-language (1Cor.12)

9 Skill: Leader as Pastor Relationships the center of ministry Initiation Development be with; alongside Growth continual; commitment Community be the body of Christ Fulfill the command to love each other (Jn 15:12) Meet the needs: Attention, acceptance, & affirmation Significance & security (From Thrall, 1999, p )

10 Skill: Leader as Pastor Visitation the process of relationship Formal homes, coffee shops Informal phones, social media Pastoral Care Council Leaders working together as a Team for the benefit of the community Mutual care, consideration & encouragement Communication the means of relationship Beneficial communication brings blessing

11 Skill: Communication Connect relational Openness; friendliness; respect; smile genuine Enthusiasm eye contact; attentive posture Empathy- emotional awareness; read emotional cues (posture, facial expression, etc.); we ; see their perspective/understand them Receive feedback &provide feedback Credibility & trust accept reality Power of persuasion/influence

12 Skill: Communication Confidence Listen & observe Be clear & concise; ask good questions; be brief Appropriate use of humor Care Discern true need Discuss possible solutions Decide potential actions act as possible Determine the Lord s will seek Him in Scripture & prayer
