Ovr 400 ntrprising school childrn from across th two local schools hav workd togthr to dsign and crat marvllous moving vhicls from rusabl and rcyclabl matrials. Th pupils from primary 5 to primary 7 hav bn givn th additional challng of powring thir vhicls using a rnwabl form of nrgy. Th xhibition showcass th childrn s work at various stags throughout th projct from th dsign stag to compltion. Pupils and tachrs from both schools hav thoroughly njoyd having th opportunity to mt and work with pupils and tachrs from anothr school whilst braking down barrirs and building community rlations in th procss. Ms Gilmor from Portstwart Primary School said, Thr is nothing lik th imagination of a child moving in full flow. That is marvllous in itslf. 5 Juniata Collg Choir Th prformanc by Juniata Collg Choir (Pnnsylvania) on 8th March was stunning. This fifty-mmbr choir of collg studnts ranging from th ag of 17 to 22 dlightd th audinc in St Mary s Star of th Sa with vrything from Mdival Latin motts, through Irish songs, to ngro spirituals undr th dirction of conductor Dr Russ Shlly. Thy wr in Irland during thir Spring Brak (3 to 12th March) and had alrady prformd St Colum s Cathdral in Drry and on th prvious night at Clonard. I m rally glad on of thir mmbr snt m an mail asking if th choir could sing in our church. Aftrward th parish Wlcom Committ mad sur thy didn t go hom hungry from th Parish Cntr. Mayor Maura Hicky (with chain of offic) compltd th wlcom and th choir sang a hug thank you to all. It was a most mmorabl vning. W wr all so dlightd to hav John Donnlly and his wif Oona in th audinc, John obviously gtting so much plasur from th vning. Mill Strand School Choir Th choir which dlightd th parishionrs during Sunday Mass at Star of th Sa som Sundays ago was Mill Strand childrn s choir. Th choir startd in th arly days of th school which opnd in Thy continu to support thir frinds and classmats by providing musical accompanimnt to a rang of church srvics, including th Do This in Mmory Programm, which is run by Sally Andrws. In th lad up to srvics including First Holy Communion th choir giv thir tim to prparing by coming togthr for aftr school sssions. W look forward to this as th first of many visits. Visit to Fatima It was 100 yars ago, about midday on 13th May, l917, whn Our Lady appard in th parish of Fatima to thr littl childrn who wr pasturing thir flock of shp in th Cova da Iria. Th childrn wr Lucia, agd 10, and hr two cousins Francisco 9, and Jacinta 7. Aftr saying th Rosary th childrn wr amusing thmslvs building a play hous of stons scattrd around whr th Basilica stands today, whn thy saw a brilliant light. Thinking it was lightning thy dcidd to gathr thir shp and go hom. Thy wr on thir way down th slop whn anothr flash lit up th plac, and thy saw, standing on top of a holmoak tr whr th Chapl of Apparitions now stands A Lady mor brilliant than th sun. Th Lady s first words wr, Do not b afraid. Sh told th childrn that it was ncssary to pray much, and invitd thm to rturn to th Cova da Iria on fiv conscutiv months, on th 13th day, at th sam hour. At th last apparition, with about 70,000 popl prsnt, th Lady said to thm that sh was th Lady of th Rosary. 6 Alpha Anothr Alpha cours was run by Portstwart Parish in Th Anchor, Portstwart from 9 January - 20 March. Ovr 15 attndd th cours from within th parish and outsid of it. Alpha is a sris of sssions and is dsignd for anyon wanting to xplor th basics of th Christian faith. Each sssion involvs a mal togthr, followd by a vido looking at a diffrnt qustion around faith, thn an opportunity to chat about what has just bn hard ovr ta and coff. Vra (Vronica) Mc Kagu was born in Limavady in Thn, in 1936 sh movd with hr family to Portstwart, whr sh rsidd vr aftr, living in Hathmount with hr fiv brothrs and thr sistrs, and attnding St Colum s Primary School. On laving school, sh took up mploymnt in lady s fashion, working in Portstwart, th Whit Hous in Portrush, and lastly in Dixion s of Colrain. Vra now rsids in th Madlayn Court car hom in Portstwart, and hr sh is njoying hr Birthday clbration.
