1 July 16, 2017 We Care Because We Pray Fifteenth Week of Ordinary Time Forbes Park, Makati St. Bonaventure, known as the seraphic doctor, was born at Bagnoregio, in the Lazio region of central Italy, in He received the name of Bonaventure in consequence of an exclamation of St. Francis of Assisi, when, in response to the pleading of the child s mother, the saint prayed for John s recovery from a dangerous illness, and, foreseeing the future greatness of the little John, cried out O Buona ventura - O good fortune! At the age of twenty-two St. Bonaventure entered the Franciscan Order. Having made his vows, he was sent to Paris to complete his studies under the celebrated doctor Alexander of Hales, an Englishman and a Franciscan. After the latter s death he continued his course under his successor, John of Rochelle. In Paris he became the intimate friend of the great St. Thomas Aquinas. He received the degree of Doctor, together with St. Thomas Aquinas, ceding to his friend against the latter s inclination, the honor of having it first conferred upon him. Like St. Thomas Aquinas, he enjoyed the friendship of the holy King, St. Louis. St. Bonaventure Bishop and Doctor of the Church (Feast day-july 15) At the age of thirty-five he was chosen General of his Order and restored a perfect calm where peace had been disturbed by internal dissensions. He did much for his Order and composed The Life of St. Francis. He also assisted at the translation of the relics of St. Anthony of Padua. He was nominated Archbishop of York by Pope Clement IV, but he begged not to be forced to accept that dignity. Gregory X obliged him to take upon himself a greater one, that of Cardinal and Bishop of Albano, one of the six suffragan Sees of Rome. Before his death he abdicated his office of General of the Franciscan Order. He died while he was assisting at the Second Council of Lyons, on July 15, 1274.

2 parish bulletin From the Desk of the PPC President Edmund Lim, KHS In preparing for this month s President s Report, I took the time to reflect on what was done and what remains to be done in the last few months of this PPC term. Firstly, please allow me to update you on the physical improvements that both our Administrative Council and our Parish Development Committee are undertaking: 1. Our new air conditioners have arrived. We expect the new units to be fully functional by the first week of October. The new inverter-type air conditioner units are expected to reduce our electricity bill by 25%. However, I seek your patience during the installation of these units starting August 1st as our old air conditioning units will only be functioning at half capacity during this period. 2. The renovation plans for our sacristy, as envisioned by our Parish Priest Fr. Reu, is now pushing apace after our successful Fiesta. The work for the new sacristy will provide a more spiritual atmosphere for our community. 3. You might notice many minor repairs around our church grounds. Considering that our church is almost 65 years old, some portions are in need of constant repair and attention. We thank you for your continued forbearance while we slowly address some of these issues one by one. We apologize for any delay in the repairs and for any 2 inconvenience that this may have caused and we appreciate your understanding. Secondly, our many different ministries, mandated organizations, councils and committees are now completing their various Operating Manuals. We hope that the completion of these manuals will help guide future leaders and volunteers of our Parish in their service. We expect the manuals to be available by November. Thirdly, our country has faced naturals disasters and areas of conflict the past few months. We will focus our drive to help the Marawi refugees as well as the victims of the recent earthquake in Leyte. There are persistent calls for us to help. Please continue to be generous with our prayers and material succour. Finally, you might have noticed more spiritual formation lectures scheduled in the Parish. Most of these talks are organized from the grassroots level with different ministries coming together to make these events possible. In the last 130 days of this PPC term, we hope to focus more on growing the spirituality of all parishioners before we enter the Advent Season. This spirituality will hopefully come with guidance and care. To you dear parishioner, church goer, ministry volunteer, this PPC remains at your service. Thank you for continuing to care and love our dear Parish.

3 care for each other: every sister and brother is a gift July 16, 2017 My Familial Brothers By Jayme Blanco Back in 2006, while active in the Single Young Adult Community (SYA), I was invited by a fellow member to join the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC). This invitation led me to be part of a bigger parish family composed of men from EMHC and Men of the Sacred Heart (MSH). In both aforesaid ministry and organization, my service to the parish and outreach grew and likewise fostered my sense of belonging to the San Antonio parish community. I consider the EMHC and MSH like familial brothers sharing one goal, which is serving the Lord in the Parish. Further, we help each other by trying to be of service to one another in fulfilling our parish duties and responsibilities. Some of us go out for fellowships with our spouses who likewise are active in parish service. My fellow brothers were always there to give assistance when I needed help during my stint as PPC President back then and more so now with our brother PPC President Edmund Lim who is also an Extraordinary Minister. I also remember when our fellow EMHC Steve Lopez got into an accident and was hospitalized for a long time, we collectively visited and offered prayers for him. We influence each other through our service in the parish. Personally, I was motivated to be active in other parish ministries and outreach activities by my fellow members. The late Steve Lopez was a big influence in my being active then with the outreach ministries composed of JPIC Scholarship, Prison and PGH. Santuario de San Antonio Pastoral Team Fr. Baltazar A. 4 parish bulletin care for each other: every sister and brother is a gift Growing in Faith and Friendship by Rosy Adriano, LC Fernandez, Veron Silagpo, and Argel Tiburcio We all met when we joined the 29 th SYA Weekend, but only got close when we went to Samar to help build houses for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda and participated in the SYA Amazing Race. After those activities, we decided to form our chat group to keep ourselves updated with what is going on in our lives. At first, we would just talk about how our day went or share an interesting article we ve read. Eventually, as our friendship grew deeper, we would share not just personal stories but struggles that single Catholics face daily. How do we find time to serve the Lord with our busy schedule? How do we be Christ-like at work? How do we communicate ourselves correctly to the opposite sex? Together, we pray for things that bother us but also celebrate and thank the Lord for each other s successes. We make it a point to always remind each other that God loves us, and that we should strive to be the best versions of ourselves so that we may also be deserving of God s best for us. may catch a movie or eat ramen or play board games until we really need to go home. We feel very blessed that we have each other and this community - a community that reminds and allows us to love ourselves, love others, and love God. We look forward to many years together growing in Faith and in friendship, one charity work at a time. We always talk online, but we rarely see each other outside of SSAP and it is church activities that bond us. This includes volunteering for Prison Ministry and Hospital Ministry, helping out and attending various SYA activities, and praying together at the Adoration Chapel. After these activities, we 4

I couldn t really stand the idea of it. This was probably because back then, pretty much like now, Antioch was very much misunderstood. People who don t bother trying to see what we re about yes, people like me, prior to being signed up by my mom - think we are just about having a good time. To some extent, yes we were and are -- because life has a lot of challenges accompanying it -- and having fun smoothens the rough spots. But what people don t know is that this Parish is what really got us started in our Faith journeys. It was here that we learned to see Christ in others. constantly celebrate the rich colors of life s tapestry, hands clasped together as we try to honor His name by leading lives He would ve wanted us to lead, and ultimately passing it on. My barkada from way back then is still my barkada to this day. And I can say the same for countless others who grew up in this Parish too. My own group of friends extends from people my age all the down to teeners and somehow we are all intertwined because of our shared experience in trying to walk Christ s path, accepting our imperfections but trying to spread love and do the right thing anyway. This was, and still is, how we chose to lead our lives our relationships always somehow were anchored in our Faith. We ve seen each other through the countless difficulties of our lives; celebrated our victories; laughed, cried, prayed and embraced. We ve become godparents to each other s children and counselors to our younger friends. We ve left our motherland, and returned home to pick up where we left off. We wept together as we lost loved ones and even some from our ranks. But throughout the layers of our lives we 5
