1 Culture of the Ancient World Studies in Culture of the Ancient World are open to all students of the University. Within the program of studies aiming at a Master's degree or at a Bachelor s degree in the Faculty of Humanities they can be freely combined with any other subjects. The students of the culture of the ancient world get acquainted with different fields of the culture of the ancient world. As a subject of large general humanistic interest the culture of the ancient world can support many kinds of studies and familiarize students with the cultural heritage of Europe. CULTURE OF THE ANCIENT WORLD BASIC STUDIES, 30 ECTS cr. Mody of study: Students are not expected to have knowledge of classical languages, but courses in Latin and Greek may be included in the program. Optional fields of the culture of the ancient world can support and complement student's main subject studies (to be agreed on with the instructor). Most of the studies of culture of the ancient w orld are normally completed by taking book exams. Registrations for a book exams should be made in the Korppi-system / Exams. Book exams may be replaced with lecture series according to the agreement with the instructor. Evaluation: grading scale 0-5. Book exams may be taken on the scheduled examination days of the Faculty of Humanities. The student must register for them at least 7 days before the examination. Literature: Please look at the list of courses below. The following book is recommended as a general aid in questions of Finnish terminology and name forms: MMM Antiikin sanakirja (edited in Finnish by M. Itkonen-Kaila) and Antiikin käsikirja (edited in Finnish by P. Castrén and L. Pietilä-Castrén). N.B. If the studies in culture of the ancient world are included in other subjects of the Master's degree, the students are expected to agree on the examination of

2 the corresponding courses with the instructor. Both studies in Latin and studies in culture of the ancient world must be agreed on with the instructor. CULTURE OF THE ANCIENT WORLD, 20 ECTS cr. 4 In addition to exercise substantial skills, exercising in general professional readiness is common in the studies of culture of the ancient world, such as ability to perceive an entity, ability to control the use of time, independent work, abilities to search for information and to write up a report.
