The name Celts is a 'modern' name. The Romans called these people Britons, not Celts. The Iron Age Celts lived there 750 years before Jesus was born (B.C.). The Iron Age ended 43 years after Jesus was born (A.D.) when the Romans invaded Britain. The Celts were very tall. They had long blond hair and a pale skin. They had every part of their body shaved except their head and upper lip. They spent lot of time fighting each other so the Romans defeated them easily. (before Jesus was born) because: - he was angry with the Britons for helping the Gauls (now called the French) to fight the Romans; - he wanted great riches ( land, slaves, iron, lead, zinc, copper, silver and gold) there were in Britain. After more fighting, the British tribes promised to pay tribute to Rome and Caesar went home. In 43 A.D. ( after Jesus was born) Emperor Claudius decided to invade Britain again.
