2 Wednesday 10 th January 2018 LC: Can I create a KWL grid about the Romans? This week in Humanities the children were given the opportunity to share any exiting knowledge they had on the Romans. They came up with some great facts and it was clear that the working wall had sparked their interest. The children were then given an opportunity to discuss what they would like find out about the Romans. I know that the Romans conquered many countries. - Nathan

4 Thursday 11 th January 2018 LC: Hook Lesson This week in Humanities the children were given an image of what appeared to be an image of Greenwich in Roman times. The children eventually spotted that the O2 was in the background, which sparked lots of interesting discussion. I think the picture is of a Roman farm. - David I think the image shows what London used to be like in Roman times. - Flora

6 Thursday 25 th January 2018 LC: Can I recognise the differences between migration, immigration and invasion? This week in humanities the children considered why people move from different parts of the country or between different countries. They also found out the meaning of the terms immigration and invasion and the differences between them. As a class, we then considered how immigrations was different to the Roman invasion. People sometimes move countries before their country is at war. - Henry

8 Thursday 1 st February 2018 L.C Can I relate the timescale of the bronze age work to the Roman invasion? This week in humanities, the children considered what Britain was like at the time of the Roman invasion. They considered why the Romans invaded Britain and where in Britain they invaded. Children then created a physical timeline to show periods in history and considered what Made Britain desirable to the Romans. I found out the Romans invaded Britain for tin and gold. - Chloe

11 Thursday 15 th February 2018 L.C Can I write my own version of a Roman Myth? In English, the children learnt the myth of Romulus and Remus and then innovate it to plan and write their own Roman myth. The children used actions and drama to help them remember the story before creating their very own versions.

16 Tuesday 27 th February 2018 L.C Can I create a mini book? After the children had written their own Roman myth. They published them into a minibook and added illustrations. The children then shared their myths with Puffins and Hawks, who were very impressed with their mini-books! I really enjoyed sharing my minibook with Puffins. Tunrayo

18 Thursday 1 st March 2018 L.C Can I research the Roman army and present my findings? This week in humanities the children researched the Roman army using various sources and presented their findings back to the class in different ways. I found out that you had to be 25 to join the Roman army. - Shirin

21 Thursday 15 th March 2018 L.C Can I investigate Boudica s importance and why She is remembered today? In this week s humanities, children were given two different images of Boudica to see if they could spot the possible differences in a description of her by an ally and an enemy. The children then researched who she was and had to use their research skills to answer the learning challenge. I found out that Boudica was the queenof the British Celtic Iceni tribe. - Azeezat

22 Boudicca was remembered for leading an uprising against the forces of the Roman Empire. Kanyin Boudicca is considered to be a British folk hero. Usman

23 Boudicca s rebellion comes from the writings of the Romans so we don t know how true it may be. Eloise I think Boudicca killed herself to avoid capture because she was very brave. William

27 Thursday 22nd March 2018 L.C Can I write my conclusions as to why I think Boudica was so important and why she is remembered today. This week in humanities the children used their research to write about why they felt Boudica was so important. Any opinions they gave had to be supported by evidence, either through their research or statements from images.

29 Monday 26 th March 2018 L.C Can I write diary entries from the point of view of a child in Roman times and a child in London 2018? This week the children wrote two different diary entries. One was from the perspective of a Roman child and the other was from the perspective of a child living in London in They wrote some very creative entries that were also factually correct. I wrote my entry from the point of view of a poor Roman child. I didn g go to school and had to work on the farm. - Shirin

The children had to carry out their own research using various resources and present their findings to the class.
