Psalms 27:1-6 (KJV) July Meeting Report Yazoo Pass Expedition The July meeting featured a presentation by Compatriot and AoT Lt. Commander Larry McCluney who spoke on the Yazoo Pass Expedition attempted by the Federals. The purpose was to try to secure a back door to the Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg by bringing war ships into the Mississippi Delta (by cutting the levee) and taking all the Confederate fortifications along the tributaries that fed into the Yazoo River which ran to the Mississippi just north of Vicksburg. Fortunately, the Federals failed in this attempt. Comm. McCluney has written a book on this subject which appears from the bibliography and source references to be well researched. Dan Duggan presented his this day in the WBTS feature for July 25. The Dixie Hummingbirds (Joe Tubb and Murry Stewart) presented several songs during the musical feature. 1

2 Rebel Ramblings by Robert Murphree We hear all the times these days about something called "fake news" though how one is to know what news one hears is "fake" and what news is "real" is puzzling indeed. Well, if you will allow me to vary the metaphor a bit, I would like to introduce a new term: "fake history." Fake history is a tale it isn't really "history" since it isn't accurate-- that has been revised or rewritten by an author to reflect the way that person wishes events of long ago had happened, or what caused those long ago events. Fake history is the product of working backwards: one decides on a conclusion and then works in reverse to come up with "facts" to support the result. No group has been the target of more "fake history" than our Confederate ancestors and no event has been more misconstrued than the causes of secession. For example, these days the accepted and correct answer to why the South seceded, and why the North invaded our land is slavery, and only slavery. This is a classic example of "fake history" since any objective analysis will show that if the boys who donned the blue in 1861 had been told they were marching south to free the slaves there would have been no march. Just read the Crittendon Johnson Resolution of July 1861 for confirmation of this point. Not convinced? Well read what "Honest Abe" said in his first inaugural address about slavery. More puzzling is the complete redaction of the part that protective tariffs played in escalating tensions between the North and the South. No one can dispute that the North's economy was based on manufacturing and the South's economy was based on agriculture. By 1828 foreign manufactured goods faced high import tariffs. Since the South did not produce these goods it either had to import the items or have the good shipped down from the North. Either way the costs were higher than normal and since importing goods from abroad was often still cheaper than shipping the goods from the North, the South paid most of the federal import tariff. At the same time, raw materials from abroad were duty free, so the Northern industries benefited twice. 3 Chaplain s Dispatch Dear Friends and Compatriots: How to Continue Seeking God's Face? Psalms 27:8 NKJV says, "when you said, Seek My Face, my heart said to you, Your Face Lord, I will Seek". In Isaiah 58:2 God said, yet they Seek Me daily and delighted to know My Ways" and Hebrew 11:6b,"Seek Him eagerly". (Continued from page 2) To add insult to injury, the central government used a good bit of this revenue paid by the South to build roads, railroads and canals in the North. With most of the tariff income collected in the South and spent in the North, no wonder our ancestors felt exploited and mistreated--especially since almost 90% of the income of the federal government came from these tariffs (remember there was no income tax then, oh happy day). Well might Lincoln reply to Horace Greeley, who was urging Lincoln to simply let the Southern states go: "Who will pay for the national government?" Sincerely, Rev. Glenn D. If we do not defend ourselves none will defend us; if we yield we will be more and more pressed as we recede; and if we submit we will be trampled underfoot. John C Calhoun --General Patrick Cleburne If this cause, that is dear to my heart, is doomed to fail, I pray Heaven may let me fail with it, while my face is toward the enemy and my arm battling for that which I know is right. Then along came the Panic of 1857, which wreaked havoc in the North, though leaving the agricultural South relatively untouched. The cry from the Northern industries for more protective tariffs reached fever pitch. At the same time, the level of resentment of Southerners at this unfair situation rose apace, doing much to fan the feeling in the South that it could not expect to receive fair treatment from the North if the southern states remained in the Union. Don't get me wrong: I don't condemn "fake history" only to dish out a dose of the same poison myself, so I won't pretend to argue that slavery was not a major cause of the discord between the regions. However, the plain fact is that most Northern politicians were always willing to sacrifice whatever anti-slavery scruples they may have had if a more advantageous tariff deal for the North was to be had. Furthermore, in order to sustain the current effort to vilify all things and persons connected to the Confederacy, it is necessary to characterize the clash between North and South as a simple fight over slavery, where one side was noble while the other was evil. Only then can anyone begin to justify denigrating men of the stature and character of, say, Robert E. Lee. And that, my friends, is fake history. Photo: Statue of Confederate Maj. 4 One of Abe s Accomplishments This comes from a Facebook posting of a link to this site: Original publication on May 29, I have no clue as the meaning of the author s pseudonym I Never Knew That Abraham Lincoln Ordered The Largest MASS HANGING IN US HISTORY, Or Why He Did It By nko - People think that Abe Lincoln was such a benevolent President. He was actually a bit of a tyrant. He attacked the Confederate States of America, who seceded from the Union due to tax and tariffs. (If you think it was over slavery, you need to find a real American history book written before 1960.)This picture is of 38 Santee Sioux Indian men that were ordered to be executed by Abraham Lincoln for treaty violations (IE: hunting off of their assigned reservation). Yes, the Great Emancipator as the history books so fondly referred to him as. Authorities in Minnesota asked President Lincoln to order the immediate execution of all 303 Indian males found guilty. Lincoln was concerned with how this would play with the Europeans, whom he was afraid were about to enter the war on the side of the South. He offered the following compromise to the politicians of Minnesota: They would pare the list of those to be hung down to 38. In return, Lincoln promised to kill or remove every Indian from the state and provide Minnesota with 2 million dollars in federal funds. So, on December 26, 1862, the Great Emancipator ordered the largest mass execution in American History, where the guilt of those to be executed was entirely in doubt. Regardless of how Lincoln defenders seek to play this, it was nothing more than murder to obtain the land of the Santee Sioux and to appease his political cronies in Minnesota. You have no idea the things that are hidden from you with the textbooks assigned to you as a child by your government. Stay mindful people, be aware.in the age of information being ignorant is indeed a choice. You are currently seeing the wholesale attempt to REWRITE yet another chapter in American History were the Confederate Battle Flag is concerned. Now there is talk of digging up graves and moving bodies that offend people. This is nothing more than desecration of the dead. Have a disagreement with history, and not wanting to remember the War Between the States, is one thing. But to erase a significant event in national history is another. And sets a dangerous precedent. What will fall victim next to Political Correctness? 4

5 And more Justice for the sake of Lincoln: ANOTHER SCAPE- GOAT Another post war scapegoat: MARY SURRATT! The prosecution withheld key evidence during her conspiracy trial on the existence and content of John Wilkes Booth s diary. This diary placed the origin of the assassination plot only three days before Lincoln s death. That information would have exonerated Mrs. Surratt in the assassination plot. Upon reading this on Facebook, one person commented: She was strangled, notice the noose at back of neck, not on side like it's supposed to be. Only one was placed properly. Hers and two others were placed in back of neck, probably tool 10 or more minutes for her to die. (Edited for inclusion here.) 6 REPUBLICAN DESTRUCTION OF THE SOUTH After inception in 1854, it took the Republican party only 6 years to destroy sectional harmony in the Union, and 7 years to plunge the country into a war that would end the Founders experiment of By 1865, the South was devastated, subjugated, without a voice in its own government, and ruled by a Northern Republican politicalmilitary junta engulfed in a saturnalia of vice, corruption and outright fraud within the US government. DTH MORE PROOF THAT FREEING SLAVES WAS NOT THE PUR- POSE OF THE WAR And now some MORE truth you won't learn in school. This is MORE PROOF that the United States did not make war on the Southern states to "free the slaves". This is the statement of the United States Congress WHO HAS THE POWER TO MAKE WAR ACCORDING TO THE CONSTITUTION (even the bastardized one we have in place now) according to Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution. Here is the reason from their own mouths via their pens WHY they invaded the Southern states, passed on July 25, 1861: "Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States, That the present deplorable civil war has been forced upon the country by the disunionists of the Southern States now in revolt against the constitutional Government and in arms around the capital; that in this national emergency Congress, banishing all feelings of mere passion or resentment, will recollect only its duty to the whole country; that this war is not waged upon our part in any spirit of (Continued on page 7) 6

7 From the internet: A SOUTHERN PRAYER Our Heavenly Father, Thank you for watching over your children and giving us a peace that passes the understanding of mankind, even when we might not know the next step to take, we trust in your guidance. Thank you for the victories you allow us to achieve and may we always remember that it is you--and you alone--that deserves all the praise and glory! Thank you for providing such a great salvation, through your sacrificial death on a cruel cross that allows those that trust you as Lord and Savior to have eternal salvation from the penalty of sin. Open our eyes to those that are lost and allow them to see your light. Help us not to be misled by those who themselves are lost in sin. Jesus, use us as your ministers to reach out to those that are hurting, with your love. Allow those that are sick and suffering to recognize you as the Great Physician and that all healing comes from your hand. Allow those that are suffering grief, from the loss of a friend or loved one, to see you as the Prince of Peace and fill their loss with your everlasting love. Enable and strengthen us as we seek to reach a world that is lost and bound for eternal hell with the knowledge that you - and you alone - are the way, the truth, and the life! Remind us as we stand for truth that we cannot mix sin and error with it or it ceases to be the truth! Protect the many that are traveling this week and participating in heritage events. Lead us boldly into new arenas, proclaiming the truth everywhere we stand, dispelling the lies that have been propagated against us and our cause! Lord, we thank you for the privilege of being born in the Southland! Thank you for the examples you have provided us with in our Southern ancestors - examples of faith, endurance, and honour! May the things that we do and the places we go give you glory and not bring dishonor upon those that have gone before us and provided us with such a rich heritage! It's in the Holy and Precious name of Jesus Christ that we pray - Amen! Union means so many millions a year lost to the South; secession means the loss of the same millions to the North. Commander Jackson has no column this month THE UNITED STATES VS THE STATE OF VIRGINIA Remembering the gallant charge of the Virginia Military Institute Cadets at the Battle of New Market in the Field of Lost Shoes...May 15th 1864 I consider it almost criminal that the Cadets in the modern day video (see accompanying photo) are not carrying the Battle flag (or Virginia Flag) nor is the band allowed any longer to play Dixie... It is a disgrace to the young boys who made that courageous charge on this muddy field for the love of Virginia, defeating the German immigrants (Mercenaries) under Union General Franz Sigel. Shame on you Lexington and VMI authorities, history cannot be denied. Sigel was an inept general, but his ability to recruit and motivate German immigrants kept him alive in a politically sensitive position. Many of these soldiers could speak no English beyond "I'm going to fight mit Sigel", which was their slogan and which became one of the favorite songs of the war.
