2 Prominence 1. The dignity of His person: He is not only Son of man, but Son of God (Hebrews 4:14) 2. The purity of His nature: He is "without sin" and "holy," (Hebrews 7:26; Hebrews 4:15) 3. The prominence of His order: that of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:6) 4. The solemnity of His ordination: "with an oath" none other was (Hebrews 7:20-21) 5. The Excellency of His sacrifice: "Himself, without spot (Hebrews 9:14) 6. The perfection of His administration He has satisfied divine justice, procured Divine favor, given access to the Throne of Grace, secured eternal redemption (Hebrews 7:11, 25) 7. The permanency of His office; it is non-transferable and eternal (Hebrews 7:24)

3 Qualifications 1. Without Sin For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15) 2. Appointed by God as heir of all things, He is the brightness of the Glory of God, the expressed image of God, upholds all things by His power, purged our sins, and now sits at the right hand of God (Hebrews 1:2-3) 3. The manifestation of God, the Firstborn of all creation, creator of things in heaven and earth, with every throne, dominion, principality, and power subject to Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things consist (Colossians 1:15-17) 4. The Lamb of God. Christ is the only one who could stand before God and appease His wrath by simultaneously being the priest offering the sacrifice and being the atoning sacrifice (Hebrews 9:11-12) 5. Apostle and High Priest: Jesus Christ is both the Apostle (Jesus Christ sent forth from on High with miraculous powers commissioned by God to plead His cause to us) and High Priest (pleading the cause of hopelessly lost sinners such I to God the Father) so that we through Christ become partakers of this Heavenly calling (Hebrews 3:1) 6. Mediator Jesus Christ as High Priest is the mediator of a better covenant, new testament, and the only mediator between God and man (Hebrews 8:6; Hebrews 9:15; 1 Timothy 2:5)

4 Our Gleanings In Figure we glean the following: 1. Christ meet all the demands of God s Holiness or He could not minister as our Great High Priest (1 John 1:5). 2. Christ Priestly ministry is the foreshadow of Christ maintaining the gracious work of the Spirit through His people, human agent s facilitation of ministry within the Tabernacle (our earthly tents) 3. Jesus is our Great High Priest it behooves us to learn of the vocation of which we identify ourselves with (Hebrews 6:1) We must learn the nature of its activities; the office and its relation to other truths; and how the office edifies the proper approach to God through Jesus Christ The purpose of its design The blessing that come from understanding it How the saints enjoy blessing by the virtue of it

5 GREAT HIGH PRIEST P: Propitiation (Appease the Wrath of God) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God (Romans 3:25) R: Reconciliation - Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people (Hebrews 2:17) I: Intercessor Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25) E: Expiation (Atonement to cover sin and/or to cleanse sin Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us (Romans 5:11) S: Salvation For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:9) T: Transformer Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high (2 Corinthians 5:17)
