Daniel James I Daniel James do solemnly swear that I imigrated to Kentucky with the views of bee coming a citizen thereof in good faith and that I was wholy ignorant of any case of the State of Kentucky requiring emigrants to take an Oath respecting the slaves 3

6 5 Joel Garnett That I did in November 1838 purchased bona fide for my own use and benefit said slaves to wit Aaron and Arthur and not for merchandise and that I at the time of purchasing said slaves was wholly and enterily(sic) ignorant of the act of Feby 2nd So help me God. Joel Garnett Boone County Ky. Set. Personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said county Joel Garnett who took the oath above in conformity to law. Given under my hand this 15th day of April H.F. 7 6 Commonwealth of Kentucky Boone County Set. affidavit of Geo. W. Brasher This affidavit George W. Brasher states that in April 1840 he brought from the state of Mississippi two negro slaves a Boy by the name of Harry aged about thirteen years old, a Girl named Mary about fourteen years old this affidavit further states that he had been for some time a partner in trade with Richardson & Rodney of said state of Mississippi in a produce and Commission business and the slave Harry had been purchased by the firm aforesaid and upon settlement after dissection the said Harry became the property of affiant as part of the proceeds of the concern and this affiant about the same time brought the Girl Mary and brought both of said slaves to the state of Kentucky in the spring of Butch that neither of said slaves were bought for merchandize, they were both bought for this affiant own use and benefit, and this affiant still owns them, this affiant states that both of said slaves became the property of affiant as ofs in the month of March 1840 and this affiant states that at the time said slaves became his property as ofs he was wholly ignorant of the act of Feby 2 nd, So help him God, Given under my hand this day 17 th day of April G.W. Snyder and made oath that he had purchased or received and imported into the state of Kentucky the slaves named in the list this day made out by him and filed with me for this own private use that they were not purchased or received and imported for sale or speculation or to the be treated as merchandise: and that he does not believe any one of them has been imported into the United States since the first of January Or that any one of them has been convicted of felony in any other State or Territory wherefore duly recorded witness my hand 3 rd November IG Hamilton Clk 11

Hill of the county and state aforesaid do hereby report to the Clerk of the county court of said county that joined on or about the 20 th day of October last import and bring into this county from the state of Virginia the following slaves to wit one Girl named Minia female about ten years of age Given under my hand this 26 th day of Nov George R. Hill Commonwealth of Kentucky set Personally appeared before me the subscriber deputy clerk of the Boone County court in said state George R. Hill and made oath that he had received and imported into the state of Kentucky the slave named in the list above made out by him and filed with me for his own private use that said slave was not purchased or received and imported for sale or speculation or to be treated as merchandise and that he did not believe that said slave had been imported into the United States since the first of January 1808 nor has she been convicted of felony in any other state or Territory November and same is duly recorded in my office Witness my hand this 26 th day of M Hamilton D.C 12
