2 Arlene JoAnn Mullin was born on May 9, 1964 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Inez Graves and Grover C. Brown. Arlene moved to Newark in 1966 with her mother Inez and sister Rosalyn Graves. At 15, she moved in with Jimmy and Betty Pope of Newark who helped raise her. While there, she became active in the Mt. Pleasant Church Choir and Youth Ministry in the Bronx, NY. Arlene graduated from Frank H. Morrell High School in Irvington, NJ in Upon graduation, she started working at Seton Hall University s Gourmet Dining Services where she worked for 22 years. During that time, she also enrolled in Essex County College where she took a number of classes full time in addition to working and raising a family. After working at Seton Hall, Arlene received her certification to be a certified nursing assistant eventually leading her to join Brookhaven Nursing Home where she continued to work for the next 10 years. In 2007, Arlene married her longtime partner Alford Mullin of Antigua. Arlene passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at home. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Alford Mullin; her son, Justin Morant; two-step sons, Alford Mullin Jr. and Ezra Mullin; her sister, Yvette Graves and a host of relatives including a sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, and the entire Pope Family.
