1 HEBREWS 7:1-3, TRUE OR FALSE OCTOBER 23, Melchizedek was a priest of God who blessed Abraham. 2. Melchizedek gave Abraham one-tenth of everything he owned. 3. God s law made the people perfect and free of sin. 4. God said to Jesus, Thou are a priest forever. 5. The priests in God s temple lived forever and did not die. 6. Melchizedek was king of Salem. 7. Melchizedek was also king of peace. 8. The author of Hebrews stated that the Old Testament priesthood of Aaron was established without God s oath. 9. The Lord declared of Jesus, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. 10. God promised the Old Testament priests that they would be priest forever. 11. The Lord Jesus embodies surety of a better testament. 12. The better testament is not linked to the Old Testament law but to that which is better and higher. 13. The better testament places the laws of God in the heart rather than on stone tablets. 14. The Old Testament priests would continue to be priests forever. 15. Jesus has an unchangeable priesthood. No one else is called to this office. 16. The Lord Jesus is able to save to uttermost those who come to Him in faith. 17. The word uttermost means all the way to the end. 18. In this eternal ministry, Jesus makes intercession for the believer. 19. Intercession means that the Lord Jesus pleads the believer s cause in the presence of God the Father. 1
2 20. Everyone is safe who has placed his or her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. 21. Christ, serving in the eternal, unchanging Melchizedek priesthood is declared to be the believer s High Priest. 22. Jesus, our High Priest, is no different from any other priest. 23. The writer of Hebrews declared that Jesus Christ is not holy. 24. The writer of Hebrews declares that Jesus is also blameless. 25. The Lord Jesus is also undefiled. 26. Jesus walked in mortal existence in the midst of moral failure and yet remained personally untouched by the failures. 27. In His holiness, blamelessness, and lack of defilement, the Lord Jesus was set apart from sinners. 28. The ministry of the Old Testament priesthood was a daily task. 29. The Old Testament high priest had to offer a sacrifice for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. 30. The sacrifice of Christ is not needed daily, and Christ has no need to offer any sacrifice for His sins. 31. Christ offered one sacrifice for sin. He did this by offering Himself on the cross. 32. The Old Testament law placed in the priesthood of Aaron individuals who had weaknesses and failures. 33. The Word of God s oath has placed the Son as the believer s perfect, eternal High Priest. 34. Jesus is consecrated forever to this ministry, and it is He who represents us in heaven this very day. 35. We can take comfort in knowing that God, not man, made Jesus our High Priest. 36. Our High Priest always lives, never changes, and is always available to us. 2
