1 NELSON MOIVAIONAL SPIRIUAL GIS INVENORY Instructions: his questionnaire is designed to help you discover your motivational spiritual gift referred to in Romans 12:4-8. Because this is computer scored, it is necessary that you answer every question, marking each answer either the true or false bubble as shown on the answer sheet. here are no right or wrong responses, only preferences. Answer each question as honestly as possible, and when in doubt, choose the answer closest to your preference. Please do not ask anyone's opinion concerning how you should answer. Section A 1 I have never been active in a church. 2 When I am in a group, people look to me for leadership. 3 With the right resources, I can teach almost anything. 4 I disregard fatigue when I am helping someone with a physical need. 5 People tend to have a negative response to my leadership efforts. 6 I hate evil more than most people. 7 I have the ability to evaluate people quickly. 8 When I am in a ministry group, I prefer to be the chairperson. 9 I take opportunities to give a substantial amount of money to the Lord s work. 10 I am especially sensitive in perceiving truth and error in religious groups and movements. 11 I am drawn to reading books on leadership and taking leadership seminars. 12 I find joy in meeting physical needs like caring for the church's building and grounds or helping out with doing the work for a church social activity. 13 I take opportunities to share God s plan for salvation with those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 14 I like to be in charge of a group. 15 Counseling should be left in the hands of professionals. 16 People in distress are drawn to me. 17 Before I finish one project, I begin to visualize another. 18 I can easily tell where a teacher stands on doctrinal issues. 19 I care deeply enough about the immorality around me to take action. 20 My greatest joy and fulfillment come when I am visualizing, dreaming, designing, and coordinating a project. 21 I often see physical needs before others seem to be aware of them. 22 I especially enjoy giving funds to ministries in order to help them become selfsupporting. 23 I am skilled at bringing order out of chaos. 24 I am able to figure out steps toward solving a personal problem earlier than most people. 25 I have never trusted Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins and to give me the gift of salvation and eternal life. 26 I like to dream about potential projects, formulate plans, and delegate responsibilities. 27 I do not know how to evaluate whether or not a teacher is doctrinally correct. 28 I often help others with physical, practical matters, even at my own expense of time or money. 29 I am often the leader of the group.
2 30 I think I am more strict about right and wrong than most people. 31 I often comfort those who are discouraged. 32 I find it difficult to coordinate the activities of others. 33 God often gives me insights which help people with their personal problems. 34 I particularly enjoy giving financial advice. 35 Leadership is a burden to me. 36 I easily perceive issues and events as being clearly right or wrong. 37 I have the ability to give practical, detailed advice to someone who needs help with physical, hands-on tasks. 38 I enjoy planning things and assigning tasks. 39 I operate on the assumption that a good idea is invalid unless the person s motives are pure. 40 When pursuing a major project, I know what small tasks must be accomplished to reach the ultimate goal. 41 I can assume responsibility for a major project if no structure exists. 42 I have a serious, unresolved moral problem. 43 I like to serve behind the scenes. 44 When I have assumed responsibility for a project at church, I enjoy coordinating workers' efforts. 45 I regularily spend extended periods of time in prayer. 46 I particularly enjoy working with groups where I can offer financial guidance. 47 I do not like to be the leader of a group. 48 I am able to motivate people to do what I ask them to do. Section B 49 I would prefer that others offer spiritual leadership while I serve behind the scenes. 50 I enjoy providing ongoing counsel for people's personal problems more than I enjoy planning projects and delegating tasks. 51 I am guided more by feelings than by logic. 52 Serving others is easier for me than is in-depth research of Scripture. 53 I find more joy and fulfillment when I am organizing and coordinating a project than when I am providing on-going counsel and advice to someone with a personal problem. 54 I would rather spend my time listening to and comforting people than researching Scripture and teaching an adult class 55 I would rather identify and meet a worthwhile financial need than spend time on meeting physical needs of people and around the church. 56 I would rather tell people what God's standards are for righteous living than teach an indepth Bible study. 57 I am more in tune with a person's feelings of distress than I am with solutions toward resolving their distress. 58 I enjoy organizing projects more than giving away money. 59 I would rather have a ministry of hospitality than one of teaching adults. 60 If I had to choose between serving in a counseling ministry or serving in a ministry of prayer for physical healing, I would choose the counseling ministry. 61 I prefer to teach adults rather than children.
3 62 When people need compassion and comfort rather than answers, they come to me. 63 I would rather give money to hire a good teacher than teach myself. 64 I find more joy and fulfillment in visualizing, organizing and delegating tasks to others than I do in silently listening to people's hurts. 65 I prefer to help with practical matters rather than spiritual things. 66 I would rather spend time listening to and comforting others than I would being in a group that specifically deals with finances 67 I would rather organize and lead worthwhile projects for the benefit of the church and its mission than I would to verbally proclaim God's Word or help someone to repent. 68 If I teach, I enjoy it because of the research and actual teaching that I can do more than because of the personal follow-up and counseling opportunities which may result. 69 I would rather visualize and coordinate a project than speak clearly concerning moral issues. 70 I find more joy and fulfillment in providing steps of action toward solving personal problems than in meeting physical needs of people and around the church. 71 I would rather visualize and coordinate a project than teach an on-going adult seminar. 72 I enjoy speaking to others about holiness, sin, and moral purity more than helping people or groups with financial matters. 73 I find more joy in serving people's physical needs than in asking probing questions and giving advice. 74 I enjoy dealing with finances and making investments more than doing in-depth research for teaching on-going Bible studies or seminars. 75 I enjoy listening to the feelings of others more than to their ideas. 76 I find more joy and fulfillment in verbally proclaiming the Word of God than in helping with physical needs around the church or with people. 77 I am more project oriented than people oriented. 78 I would enjoy organizing an on-going Bible study more than teaching it. 79 I more often silently listen to and comfort someone than I share with them how to grow personally and spiritually. 80 I enjoy dealing with finances and making investments more than I enjoy organizing, coordinating, and delegating people and projects. 81 I am more comfortable ministering to groups than to individuals. 82 I would experience more joy in giving away funds to worthwhile ministries and projects than I would in prompting someone to repent. 83 I find more joy in helping people with physical needs than in being in charge of a project. 84 I would be more drawn to counseling opportunities than to opportunities of teaching adults. 85 I would rather organize and lead a group than serve as a worker of the group. 86 I would rather put my energies into giving away funds to worthwhile ministries and projects than I would in providing people with steps of action toward solving personal problems. 87 I find more joy in meeting people's physical needs than in listening to and comforting them. 88 I find more joy in prayer or proclaiming God's Word than in a counseling ministry. 89 I would rather help meet people's physical needs than work on financial matters.
4 90 My motive for teaching an adult class would be to research and clarify the details of Scripture rather than to proclaim God's moral standards. 91 I tend to view life more in terms of absolutes than in terms of variability depending on the circumstances. 92 I enjoy dealing with finances and making investments more than I enjoy physical tasks. 93 I would rather listen to and comfort people than organize people and projects. Section C or the next 7 questions, choose ONE statement that best describes you. Mark that ONE statement RUE in the appropriate bubbles on the answer sheet. 94 I particularly enjoy visualizing, designing, organizing, and coordinating people and projects. 95 I particularly enjoy using the right resources to research the Bible and enjoy teaching an adult class of eager learners. 96 I particularly enjoy listening to and comforting those who are hurting. 97 I particularly enjoy helping people repent of their sins through proclaiming the Word of God. 98 I particularly enjoy visualizing and suggesting steps of action to people who need help with their personal problems. 99 I particularly enjoy meeting physical needs around the church and with people. 100 I particularly enjoy giving funds to effective ministries which further the gospel, especially when others will not give and when my gift can help a ministry become selfsupporting.
