4 Vice President s Report Wow time is flying, here we are in the spring already. Old man winter came and left pretty peaceful this year. We have lots of events coming up fast the big on being the membership party. There will be several meetings so I encourage everyone to attend these meeting, they are making important decisions on how the party is conducted. Even if you cant chair or sign up for a specific event at this time, please come to the meetings, it requires more than 10 people to make a informed decision that will effect the entire party. On the litter side of things, my beautiful wife Erika gave birth to our son Logan Ross Trudo on March 16th at 11:57 Pm. He came out weighing 8lbs 6.9oz and was 21.5" long. He has been a wonderful addition to our family!!. He also has a very proud older sister as well. I want to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts when he tried to come early, and want to thank everyone who gave support preparing and during this new and exciting time. I have said it once and I will always be happy to say it again WE ARE TRULY BLESSED WITH WOUNDERFUL FAM- ILY AND FRIENDS! Elections are coming up again as well one of the spots will be the presidents position, so come nominate, or support your candidates. Don't be afraid to step up and take a chance at a position, I promise you your not going to step on anyone's toes in doing so. Having a functional board and elected officials is critical to this chapter staying alive. I challenge some of our older members to make a run at some of these open positions, and help keep us on track. A.B.A.T.E. can only work for you if you make it work for you. Enjoy the riding I hope to be joining everyone soon enough Your Vice President, John Trudo THE NAKED WINERY Hill City, SD 1200 E. Unfortunately, while I was out of town, my computer totally died. Had to wait til I got back to town to get a new one and had to start the newsletter from scratch. Thanks to Clay for sending me copy of the last one so I at least had a starting point and didn t have to recollect all those business cards! So here it is with what I had, I know there may be some errors and if they are please me at ginkeller@rap.midco.net and let me know what you find and I will make corrections. On another subject, the planning of the membership party is coming along but we definitely need more volunteers for every event. We have a lot scheduled that simply won t end up happening if more people don t step up and volunteer to help. So, even if you don t want to be in charge of anything, please let the subcommittee chairs know you will help. The chairs are: Set up Jason S. and Ginny K Games Benita G. Bike Rodeo Clay and Joy Walking Poker Run Hilary Silent Auction Steve E. and Donna Vendors Pam and Jason S. The next planning meeting will be on April 7th at 9 am at the Cambell St. Café. We will be having breakfast and discussing the schedule, logistics and equipment needs for the party. Please plan on attending. Ginny Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. - Sally Koch

7 CHAPLAIN S CORNER Keeping our life in balance. When we get too extreme in one direction or the other we seem to lose our balance and want to "Tip Over." We have family, friends, work, play, etc. and as long as we keep it all in balance we do okay. But let us get out of balance and watch out. We want to "Tip Over." We need to stay in balance. Some times we need to focus on family most and other times job or play takes precedence. Sometimes even we, need to come first. If you ever had an inner ear problem you can lose your equilibrium or balance and become dizzy and fall, or "Tip Over." You may experience vertigo and have to go lie down. Sometimes life is like that. Some thing unexpected happens or you get out of balance and you "Tip Over." It could be bad news about your job, your family, your kids, or even a bad report back from your doctor. During this time we feel we cannot stand. These are the times we need to turn to God. When we seem to lose our balance He can help. He provides spiritual resources to help us. In Ephesians 6:13 it says, "Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." When life knocks us off our feet, we don't have to be frustrated. With Gods strength lifting us up and Gods armor protecting us, we can still stand strong. Reach out to God and ask Him to be with you in all you do so you don't get out of balance and, "Tip Over." In His service, Auggie and Sunshine SIDEHACK SALOON Lazelle Street, Sturgis SD Live bands every night during the rally! Valley Sports Bar 1865 S. Valley Drive, Rapid City ROAD CAPTAIN S REPORT I would like to start off with thanking everyone who participated in the Rushmore ABATE Snow or Shine this year. We had 23 people ride on the bus and everybody had a great time. Remember next year that we can take more than that on the bus. Ask those who participated this year, it s a heck of a party! See Geoff Oliver s video if you have any doubts. Then I have made a few additions to the webpage. There are now pages for Past members of the year, The history of ABATE, Around the community, and an About Us page which has our mission statement and a link to the previously mentioned pages. Last month there were 1074 visits to the webpage. Let me know if you have any ideas for additions. I hope a few of you have taken advantage of the nice weather and road a bit. Be safe. Clay
8 STATE REP S REPORT The March meeting was called to order with the pledge and roll call. Some officers missing and excused and two subs on the board were approved. Secretary's report was approved with a spelling correction and Treasurer's report was accepted. Membership Secretary requested that when a form is sent in that we indicate if the couple (married or not) is willing to receive only one Newsletter. IMPAC - 1. The windshield/windscreen law change passed with no problems! 2. Minn. Helmet Law being proposed requires proof of insurance at the rate of 250,000/250,000 to ride without a helmet if over Nebraska Helmet Law (in spite of ALL our contacts to them) is probably dead in committee and will have to wait until next year. AGAIN! 4. Handle bar sub-committee will be formed to work on this. Ask your members for people to serve and for ANY documentation regarding their tickets or stops for handlebar height. The vertical license plates need pictures of any bikes sporting one so we can present them to DMV and try to remedy this issue without legislation. State Products - State patches are still unavailable at this time. It was suggested that these patches be given to every one when they renew - but only one time. There is NO grant at this time for motorcycle awareness, training and education so we will probably have no maps this year. Hang onto your boxes - we may get "lucky" next year! Statewide Poker Run - 30 books sold and some more were checked out at the meeting. Much better than last year. Much discussion was held regarding the awarding of poker hands to those bringing new members to the run. It was decided that the original ruling would apply and those who bring one, or more, new members to the run would qualify for ONE free hand. The Hall of Fame breakfast done during Sturgis Rally was discussed and it was decided we would purchase a table for eight. Anyone who wishes to go from our chapter contact me (Sunshine) so I can reserve a seat for you. Your responsibility would be half the price of the ticket. At this time we don't know how much the cost is but will let you know as soon as we know. Nominations were due for Vice-coord. and Treasurer - Rod Hursrud was nominated for Vice-Coord and Jan Weismantel was nominated for Treasurer. No other nominations at this time but if you have a person in mind, please let me know before the May meeting! New Business - The Walking Poker Run at Glencoe during the Sturgis Rally will take place again, probably on Tuesday of Rally Week. It will be bigger and better than EVER! Think of volunteering! We are still working on dates for Legislative Days but mark your calendars for the last two weekends, or so, in January. We SO need West River people to show up!
