Sr. 21st SOUTHERN DISTRICT MID -YEAR CONFERENCE The Difference A Year Makes : 2017 the Year of Difference Embrace Change My dear brothers and sisters as we close the door on another year, I felt a compelling need to share my heart regarding this years lessons as well as share a portion of my vision for We saw a hard fought election in the United Holy Church as well as the United States of America. It left many feeling confused and hurt and feeling every thing but united. We cannot dismiss the need for healing, it is essential for the future success of our church and nation. The scripture states, That a house divided against itself cannot stand. As the President of the Southern District a position that I feel honored to hold, we must move forward and not look back. We are blessed with some of the most talented people in The Body of Christ, we need you! Lou Holtz says that, Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how you do it. As we evaluate the church, we clearly see that we are faced with difficult challenges, it seems the spirit of complacency has evaded the Body of Christ. I as President of the Southern District Convocation/ Goldsboro and Vice President of the General United Holy Church of America, Inc. have seen firsthand the challenges that churches and leaders face and some are as low as they have ever been. We have become comfortable with worship, but we have lost the passion for God s presence! We model efficiency in our worship experience with sometimes a predetermined move of God that leaves little room if any for the unexpected. I m not dismissing order only to the degree that it denies operation of the holy spirit. The repetitive nature of our worship experience is somewhat like watching a soap opera, we can miss a few episodes and still be caught up, maybe that s the reason for declining attendance and poor giving. There is nothing wrong with your location but the season for the methods you are using has come to a close. To exist is to change! Henri Bergson states He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is in the cemetery. There is nothing wrong with change as long as it is intentional and in the right direction. Tozer says that The greatest problem of the church today is the dictatorship of routine. It is not my desire to sound the alarm the alarm without offering solutions. I therefore want to offer the Bishop s Challenge for 2017: 1) We must make prayer a priority and not merely a worship filler! 2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. The only thing that can reach Heaven is not our giving, not our acts of worship but prayer! This effort must be lead from the pulpit and not just from the pew. 2) We must repair and restore broken relationships, that is essential for unity. This can only be achieved through the embrace of forgiveness, Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. 3) We must seek our strategies that will enhance our churches as we execute our program objectives. We evolved for the sake of survival the vision of the past cannot sustain the vision for the future. I end this vision with a paragraph from, My Commitment As A Christian. I wont give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till he comes, give till I drop and work till he stops me, and when he comes for his own, He will have no problem recognizing me.
