3 INTRODUCTION "For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?" {lpeter 4:17} ''He who presides over His church and the destinies of nations is carrying forward the last work to be accomplished for this world. To His angels He gives the commission to execute His judgments. Let the ministers awake, let them take in the situation. The work of judgment begins at the sanctuary." {TM p. 431} "Let nothing lessen the force of the truth for this time. The present truth is to be our burden. The third angel's message must do its work of separating from the churches a people who will take their stand on the platform of eternal truth." { 6T p. 61}

4 THE CLOSE OF PROBATION FOR Seventh-day Adventists This is a short abbreviated study on the "close of probation for Seventh-day Adventists. There seems to be so much confusion about this most important subject, especially as to the time of this event as it relates to the "National Sunday Law." I personally believe that the bulk of this misunderstanding lies in a lack of proper study of the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy. When studying the Bible, we are admonished to study line upon line and precept upon precept, here a little and there a little, { Isaiah 28:9-10. If we are to study the Bible line upon line, then we are also to study the SOP line upon line or statement upon statement, since the same Holy Spirit that inspired the prophets of old also inspired the last servant of the Lord, Ellen White. "God is either teaching His church, reproving their wrongs and strengthening their faith, or He is not. This work is of God, or it is not. God does nothing in partnership with Satan. My work... bears the stamp of God or the stamp of the enemy. There is no halfway work in the matter. The Testimonies are of the Spirit of God, or of the devil." {Vol. 4, p. 230.} {ST p. 671} With the preceding statement in mind, let us move on in our study. The prophet Peter states that the prophets of old wrote many things which they themselves did not understand or comprehend, nor did they know the time for its fulfillment, (I Peter 1:10-12). We know assuredly Daniel the prophet struggled to understand what he was writing as weu as to the time indicated. As we study the SOP. we see that "Ellen White" also did not fully comprehend some of the things she wrote. Like the prophets Of old,her WT :(ing, in some cases has a local or

5 contemporary application as we ll as a future application. Now, let us look at a popular statement concerning the close of probation for the li ving. "Solemn are the scenes connected with the closing work of the atonement. Momentous are the interests involved therein. The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon--none know how soon--it will pass to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in review. At this time above all others it behooves every soul to heed the Saviour's admonition: "Watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. " Mark 13:33. "If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Revelation 3:3. When the work of the investigative judgment closes, the destiny of all will have been decided for life or death. Probation is ended a short time before the appearing of the Lord in the clouds of heaven. Christ in the Revelation, looking forward to that time, declares: "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:11, 12. {GC 490.2} A surface reader will take the statement above to mean that we simply do not know when the judgment will pass from the dead to the li ving, but it will be shown that thi s is not what the prophet is saying. Sister White is actually stating the fact that we don ' t know the date when the judgment will pass from the dead to the li ving, but she, her self tells us over and over again that the event is the passing of the ''National Sunday Law." It will further be shown that Seventh-day Adventists will be the first to be judged because they are the 2

6 onl y ones that understand {or ~h ou ld understand} the issues when this law is passed; therefore, if a Seventh-day Adventist gives up the Sabbath and keeps Sunday for whatever reason as a result of thi s law, he or she will receive the " Mark of the Beast," and their probation will be cl osed as a result of the decision they have made. {please see Roman 6: 16}. Now, let us look at the many statement concerning this issue: "Reception of Mark of the Beast Future.--The change of the Sabbath is the sign or mark of the authority of the Romish church. Those who, understanding the claims of the fourth commandment, choose to observe the false Sabbath in the place of the true, are thereby paying homage to that power by which alone it is commanded. The mark of the beast is the papal Sabbath, which has been accepted by the world in the place of the day of God's appointment." {Ev 234.1} I ask, who is it that will understand the claims of the fo urth commandment at the time of the National Sunday Law? It is none other than SDA's, and it is a sad thing because most will give in, keep Sunday, and receive the "Mark Of the Beast. " Now let us look at a series of statements that prove the statement above: "The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. While the observance of the false Sabbath in compliance with the law of the state, contrary to the fourth commandment, will be an avowal of allegiance to a power that is in opposition to God, the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedience to God's law, is 3

7 an evidence of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of submission to earthly powers, receive the mark of the beast, the other choosing the token of allegiance to divine authority, receive the seal of God." {GC 605.2} Here we see that the Sabbath is the test, and as we continue we will clearly see that this test is first applied to SDA's and then to the world. "Th.e Lord has shown me clearly that the image of the beast will be formed before probation closes: for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which their eternal destiny will be decided. "This is the test that the people of God must have before they are sealed. All who prove their loyalty to God by observing His Law, and refusing to accept a spurious Sabbath will rank under the banner of the Lord God Jehovah, and will receive the seal of the living God. Those who yield the truth of heavenly origin and accept the Sunday Sabbath will receive the mark of the beast" {Letter 11, 1890} {BC Vol } Again it is quite clear from the statement above that the Sabbath is the test for SDA's by which their eternal destiny is decided. The statement goes on to show that the seal is given to us only if we pass the test of the Sabbath I Sunday issue. As SDA's, we should readily understand from a reading of Revelation 13: 11-18, that the passing of the National Sunday Law which brings us to the test of the mark of the beast is Satan's last ditch effort to shut down the SDA church and gai n complete control of the world. The prophet puts it this way. "Never did this message apply with greater force than it applies today. More and more the world is setting at nought the claims of God. Men have become bold in 4

8 transgression. The wickedness of the inhabitants of the world bas almost filled up the measure of their iniquity. This earth has almost reached the place where God will permit the destroyer to work bis will upon it. The substitution of the laws of men for the law of God, the exaltation, by merely human authority, of Sunday in place of the Bible Sabbath, is the last act in the drama. When this substitution becomes universal, God will reveal Himself. He will arise in His majesty to shake terribly the earth. He will come out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity, and the earth shall disclose her blood and shall no more cover her slain." {7T 141.1} Now let us see what happens in the SDA church when the Sunday law is passed. "As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel's message, but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth, abandon their position and join the ranks of the opposition. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they have come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth, employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. They become the most bitter enemies of their former brethren. When Sabbath keepers are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates are the most efficient agents of Satan to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them." { GC 608.2} The above statement is so solemn because it shows that a large class of SDA's, including ministers, give up the faith and keep Sunday when the test is brought to them. Why do they give up and keep Sunday? The story is long but in short the prophet states, they have not been obedient to the truth. They have been uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit. The prophet further states: 5

9 "The time is not far distant when the test will come to every soul. The observance of the false Sabbath will be urged upon us. The contest will be between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. Those who have yielded step by step to worldly demands, and conformed to worldly customs, will then yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. At that time the gold will be separated from the dross.... Many a star that we have admired for its briljiance will then go out in darkness. Those who have assumed the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christ's righteousness, will then appear in the shame of their own nakedness."--prophets and Kings, p {ChS 157.2} Did you get that? At the test (Sabbath vs. Sunday) the gold, whi ch represents the wheat will be separated from the dross, which represents the tares. Of course these represented as the tares give up and keep Sunday, and those represented as wheat remain faithful and keep the Sabbath. One receives the "mark of the beast," whjch closes their probation, and the other, the "seal of God." The church "militant" is the church in its present state consisti ng of wheat and tares, the church "triumphant" is the church consisting of onl y wheat. "Has God no living church? He has a church, but it is the church militant, not the church triumphant. We are sorry that there are defective members, that there are tares amid the wheat. Jesus said: "The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way... So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye 6

10 r gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the' reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." {TM 45.1} Erroneously, we have taken the statement in Man. 13:39, "The harvest is the end of the world," to mean the end of the world as to when Jesus actually comes the second time. Therefore, we have believed that the wheat and tares wi ll remain together in the church until Jesus actuall y appears the second time in the clouds of glory. To arrive at these concl u sions we have had to overlook and completely forget about the little time of trouble, the great time of trouble, the seven last plagues, victory over sin, etc. The harvest begins at the NSL, and therefore the end of the world starts at the NSL. Your decision in regard to thi s event will determine whether you are forever lost or forever saved. The prophet makes it plain: "I then saw the third angel. Said my accompanying angel," Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission. He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal, or bind, the wheat for the heavenly garner. These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention. "{Ew -118} Please notice that it is the third angel that selects the wheat from the tares, and please understand this is the angel that warns us about receiving the "Mark of the Beast" {Sunday observance}. {Rev 14:9-12} Brothers and sisters, we know that the judgment begins at the house of God; therefore, when judgment passes from the dead to the living at the passing of the NSL, it will begin with God's professed people, which are those who have had an opportunity to know and understand the truth. Under the symbol of the man with the writer's inkhom by his side, and the men with the slaughter weapons in their hands, found in 7

11 Ezekiel the 9lh chapter, the prophet comments: "The class who do not feel grieved over their own spiritual declension, nor mourn over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God. The Lord commissions His messengers, the men with slaughtering weapons in their hands: "Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house." {ST 211.1} ''Here we see that the church--the Lord's sanctuary--was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God. The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position that we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God's power as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will He do evil. Thus " peace and safety" is the cry from men who wiij never agajn lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together." {ST 211.2} The above statement is serious indeed, but it gets worse, because we have failed as a people to be obedient to the counsel of God, He will actually close the door of salvation to those of us who have refu sed to obey and gain the victory over sin by the power of the indwelling Christ, which would have qualified us to receive the seal of God at the Passing of the NSL. The prophet states: "Oh, that the people might know the time of their visita- 8

12 tion! There are many who have not yet heard the testing truth for this time. There are many with whom the Spirit of God is striving. The tinie of God's destructive judgments is the time of mercy for those who have had no opportunity to learn what is truth. Tenderly will the Lord look upon them. His heart of mercy is touched; His hand is still stretched out to save, while the door is closed to those who would not enter.'' {9T 97.2} Continuing on, the prophets states: "Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost." {5T 214.2} It is too plain to misunderstand. The Latter Rai n is given to those that have received the "Seal of God." The "Seal of God" is given to those who pass the Sunday lest. The Lauer Rai n empowers us to give the Loud Cry. The Loud Cry calls the olher sheep not of this fold out of "Babylon" and it all happens after the shaking and separating, leading up to and shortly after the NSL. Please read {EW p } ONE LAST STATEMENT If we wait until the NSL to secure oil in our lamps, it will be everlasting too late for us, and we will not be saved. The oil represents a holy character that is not developed over night, nor is it transferable from one to another as a gift, but it is gained by a personal relationship with Christ. {see TM-p. 234} Consider the next statement, and remember the refreshing of the "Latter Rain" comes as a result of passing the test and receiving the "Seal of God." I also saw that many do not realize what they must be in order to live in the sight of the Lord without a high priest in the sanctuary through the time of trouble. Those who receive the seal of the living God and are protected in the 9

13 time of trouble most retlect the image of Jesus fully." {EW 71.1} \\ "I saw that many were neglecting the preparation so needful and were looking to the time of "refreshing" and the "latter rain" to fit them to stand in the day of the Lord and to live in His sight. Oh, how many J saw in the time of trouble without a shelter! They had neglected the needful preparation; therefore they could not receive the refreshing that ajj must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God. Those who refuse to be hewed by the prophets and fail to purify their souls in obeying the whole truth, and who are willing to believe that their condition is far better than it really is, will come up to the time of the falling of the plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will be no time then to do it and no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father. Before this time the awfully solemn declaration has gone forth, "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still." I saw that none could share the "refreshing" unless they obtain the victory over every besetment, over pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every wrong word and action. We should, therefore, be drawing nearer and nearer to the Lord and be earnestly seeking that preparation necessary to enable us to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. Let ajj remember that God is holy and that none but holy beings can ever dwell in His presence." {EW-71} Finally my brothers and sisters, GET READY, GET READY, GET READY, because the NSL is right upon us. Do not waste your time with those who do not want to hear and acknowledge the truth. All the Bible texts and SOP statements in the world will not convince those that do not wish to be convinced. Ripe fmit will fall from the tree. The indulgence of a perverted appetite is the main cause that many cannot hear and accept the truth though it is presented in clear lines. Here is one last statement before we close: 10

14 "Brethren, we are far behind. Many of the things which the church should do in order to be a living church are not done. Through the indulgence of perverted appetite many place themselves in such a condition of health that there is a constant warring against the soul's highest interests. The truth, though presented in clear lines, is not accepted. I wish to set this matter before every member of our churches. Our habits must be brought into conformity to the will of God." { 6T-371}.. MEDIA CENTER By the grace of God we have completed the building of the "Media Center." From ttti s center we wi ll produce quality DVDs, CDs and booklets, in a teaching format. The purpose of this media material is to break down the walls Satan has erected to prevent "Present Truth" from getting to God's people. {see TM- p. 411, and Matt. 9:35-10:1-16}. There is no more time for sermoni zing; the "saving truth' of the "Everlasting Gospel" must be plainly set before the people that they may see the real choices. As stated in the study above, sin must be eradicated from our li ves by the power of the indwelling Christ before the passing of the "National Sunday Law." This is a very serious fact that is virtually denied, unnoticed and or unknown among us as a people at this very critical time in history. It is Satan's plan to keep God's people in one of two camps until it is everlastingly too late at the passing of the NSL. They are the liberal camps of "singing, swinging, and celebrating" with the apparent lack of firm standards, or the "Superficial Con ervative Class" camp that would never do such things, but are still retarding the work, just as effectively as the liberals {see ST-463 and 2Sm-36}. 11

15 A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE CHART ON THE PRECEDING PAGE 1844: Christ moves from the "Holy Place to the "Most Holy Place" in the heavenly sanctuary above to begi n the judgment of the dead. Very soon now the judgment wi ll move to the cases of the livi ng at the passing of the "National Sunday Law." NSL = National Sunday Law. - thjs event is the last act in the drama PT p. 141 ). This event wi II separate the wheat from the tares in the visible SDA church and produce the church triumphant. Thi is the church that will receive the seal of God, whi ch qualifies it to receive the latter rain which empowers it to give the loud cry message, of Revelation 18: 1-4. The loud cry takes the gospel to the entire world, and then the end will come, {Matt 24: 14 and Rev }. COP = Close Of Probation - This i the general close of probation for the entire world. {see Dan.12: 1 and Rev. 22: }. The gospel will have now gone to the entire world, and everyone will have made a choice to accept the truth or reject the truth. Please note that the close of probation for the SDA church will have already taken place back at the NSL, thus separating the wheat from the tares and producing a pure sinless people, that God can trust with the power of the latter rain to take the gospel to the other sheep not of thjs fold. SC= Second Coming of Jesus - God's people will endure a time of great mental anguish from the COP, until the SC. The seven last plagues one after another will be falling all over the world. After the first plague, the death degree will have been passed upon aji, who will not yield to the beast and ms image. Nevertheless In tills "Great Time Of Trouble" our bread and water will be sure. {see GC ) 14
