1 A publication by In This Issue: Donors Support Children Why Do we Need CAC? Give the Gift of Choice Help Comes in Many Forms Shop Donate Volunteer Vintage Affair Fun Teaming Up for the Pantry Making Learning Fun CAC Donors Support Children CAC s Adopt-a-Family gift donation program gets many repeat donors. This is the second year that Sheri Peek and her family are participating, adopting six children from three families for gifts. It s very hard to look at all those kids in need on the CAC website said Sheri. It s difficult to choose. Sheri s grown children and her siblings decided that rather than exchanging gifts they would give gifts to children from families in need. Last year Sheri found CAC in an online search and said the Adopt-a-Family program works well for them. She likes that CAC provides the ages of the children and their wish lists, that way they can give what the children really want. To me the young kids are ones that Christmas really has an impact on, they may not understand it if they didn t get presents under the tree, said Sheri, a resident of north Fulton who works in Dunwoody. CAC donors provide gifts to about 1,200 children a year valued at more than $60,000. To adopt local children for holiday gifts visit Why Do We Need CAC? People may ask, why do we need a place like CAC in affluent communities like Sandy Springs and Dunwoody? While many residents are fortunate to live comfortably, others in the same community are not. According a recent survey by the Atlanta Regional Commission, only about half of metro Atlanta residents could pay an unexpected $400 bill right away with what s in their bank account. Nearly one in five say they have skipped meals or reduced food portions to make ends meet. Give the Gift of Choice Spending $30 at the grocery store may not seem like much to some, but for families facing a financial crisis having $30 for food could make the difference between eating or going without. You can help local families and individuals with food this holiday season by giving grocery store gifts cards. Your donations of gift cards allow those in need to shop for food items their families enjoy most! Bring gift cards to CAC at 1130 Hightower Trail or make a contribution online for holiday food gift cards at $10 Helps an Individual $20 Helps a Couple $30 Helps a Family CAC is there to help families and individuals who find themselves needing assistance with basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. Contributions of any amount make a big difference to our neighbors who have nowhere else to turn for help. Donate today at Volume 8, Issue 2 Fall 2016

He lost his job and moved back in with his mother. His mother, who is permanently disabled, has used CAC services in the past. But he was reluctant. His mother told him that he needed to humble himself and go, they are good people at CAC, she said. It wasn t what I expected at all, said Brandon. Everyone was so willing to help, and warm and inviting, they didn t make me feel bad for needing help. While there, he noticed a job postings book in the waiting room, from which he got a part time job working concessions. CAC provided him with clothing for job interviews and food to help make ends meet. He comes back weekly to check the job Judy and Liza of the assistance team with some of Brandon's custom jewelry. book in his search for a more stable, better paying job. During his visits some of the CAC client team asked him about the jewelry he was wearing. He told them he makes it himself, for friends and family for free, it s a hobby. They convinced him to turn it into a business and are looking for someone who can guide him into entrepreneurship. Shop - Donate - Volunteer At the CAC Boutique!
