A Message frm the Cngregatin Cuncil President March 15, 2018 Dear Trinity Members, I d like t infrm yu f the utcme f the special called Cngregatinal Meeting and the Phase II meeting. The special Cngregatinal meeting was held n 1/21/18. The sle purpse f this meeting was t cnsider the fllwing recmmendatin: T reduce the directr f music psitin at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Smyrna Beach t a part time psitin and likewise the pay scale be reduced nt t exceed $25,000 annually. A mtin was made and secnded fllwed by a lengthy discussin. The final vte was 76 against the mtin and 32 fr the mtin. The mtin failed and the meeting was adjurned. The Phase II meeting was held n 1/28/18. The fllwing business was cnducted. *The Treasurer's Reprt fr 2017 was presented. We ended the year with a psitive General Fund balance f $4, *A revised budget fr 2018 was presented and apprved. The ttal budget is $310,516. *The Annual Reprt fr ur cngregatin fr 2017 was apprved. *Je and Grace Kellermeier were elected as ur Synd Vting Members fr this year's annual FL/Bahamas Synd Cnventin. 2 Stewardship Cmmittee Reprt We have cmpleted ur TAKE ONE MORE STEP Stewardship campaign fr 2018 and are sharing the results. We are excited t reprt a very successful campaign with 90 units pledging a 17% increase ver 2017 with an estimate f giving ttaling $216,842 and received many cmpleted Time and Talent Sheets. Yur financial supprt and time and talents will allw us t cntinue the wrk which Gd has fr us in the Church walls and the Cmmunity. Christ is Risen! + Thanks t the members f ur chir and handbell chir fr their dedicatin and faithfulness in prviding musical leadership fr all ur wrship services thrughut the year. Yu are greatly appreciated! + Several members f ur chir are seasnal members. Sme are Trinity members, sme are nt, and all are dedicated chir members when they are in Flrida. We miss them greatly when they g up nrth fr the summer and lk frward t their safe return in the fall. + Summer Chir sings fr ur summer wrship services Saturday night and Sunday mrning and YOU are invited t participate. Here is hw it wrks: yu may sing at the service time/day f yur chice n previus chir experience is necessary; being able t carry a tune is preferable practice in the fellwship hall 40 minutes befre the service (Saturdays at 4:20pm r Sundays at 8:50am); n mid-week rehearsals during the summer music will be easy and quick t learn we will nt wear chir rbes during the service yu may sit in the chir area r sit in the cngregatin and just cme ver t the chir area when we sing (usually at the time f the ffering) yu may sing every week, ccasinally, just nce, r whatever is best fr yu yur musical leadership is greatly appreciated! There will be ne Wednesday rehearsal n May 23 at 7pm fr anyne wh wuld like t sing thrugh all the sngs fr the summer t see what s cming. This is an ptinal event. Yu are welcme t sing fr services withut attending this rehearsal. Please talk with me r any chir member if yu have questins. + As yu travel during the summer mnths, please bring back bulletins frm the churches where yu wrship when yu are away. Brian Larsn The Lutheran Summer Music Academy, funded in 1981, is a fur-week residential training and perfrmance prgram. Each summer, LSM brings tgether band, rchestra, chir, rgan, and cmpsitin students frm the U.S. and abrad t study with ver 30 wrld-class faculty artists and a team f dedicated cunselrs and staff in a supprtive, intentinal cmmunity. This summer, Trinity member Jnathan Weinrich, a 9th grade student at Seabreeze High Schl will be participating in the prgram which will be held July 1st - July 29th at Valparais University in Valparais, IN. Trinity is a spnsring cngregatin fr LSM, which means that Trinity has already cntributed $500 t the LSM prgram and any additinal funds received by Trinity will be used as a schlarship fr Jnathan s tuitin, rm, and bard, and are als eligible fr matching funds at 33% frm LSM. Dnatins shuld be given t Trinity with LSM indicated. Thank yu fr yur supprt.

4 A Message frm Health Ministry n Mental Illness When I was asked t write an article fr the newsletter n mental illness I decided that instead f cmpiling facts n the subject, it wuld be mre effective t share sme cmments which have been persnally shared with me by friends and members f several supprt grups: It affects the entire family and its devastating. Friends, and family members, abandn yu. Mental illness is nt a behavir prblem r a parenting prblem. It s a physical illness n different than epilepsy, diabetes r cancer. Smetimes all we need is a cup f cffee and a shulder. Our family members are ill, but they can als be extremely intelligent, talented, cmpassinate and helpful. It can destry a marriage, family relatinships and friendships. We are verwhelmed and exhausted all f the time. Offer t make a meal r visit. Invite us ver. Send a card. Call us. It s much harder than yu think t find a gd dctr, therapist r treatment plan. Mental illness cannt be fixed with mre rules, structure r discipline. We are dealing with symptms, nt behaviral chices. We learn nt t sweat the small stuff. If there was n hmicide, suicide, arrest, ER visit r hspital admissin, it s been a gd day. If ur lved ne has cancer we get a casserle. If he has biplar and is hspitalized, we are ignred. It s hurtful t hear cmments like Make sure she desn't reprduce r He needs a gd spanking. These peple are human beings with feelings wh are sick, nt intentinally acting ut. We are grieving the lss f the persn we nce knew. We g thrugh the same stages f grief as smene wh is grieving ver a lved ne wh has died. Many prfessinals d nt seem t get it. We get little understanding r supprt frm schls, emplyers, the plice and even dctrs and therapists. I hpe this prvides a little understanding f the realities f mental illness and its effects n a family. Thank yu t ur church family fr sharing yur lve as Christ has cmmanded by embracing and supprting ur families wh are affected, and fr allwing us the space t facilitate a supprt grup in the cmmunity. Everyne wh lves smene with a mental illness is encuraged t attend Care Netwrk n the 1st Mnday f the mnth at 7 PM. We meet in the nursery. Please spread the wrd and cnsider cntacting ur legislatrs, asking them t prperly fund mental illness and encurage mre humane treatment f thse wh are affected. Let's end the stigma! Thank yu. 5 Cngratulatins Chief Jhn Jacbsen Submitted by prud parents, Rn & Luise Jacbsen It is with extreme pride the Nrthprt VOLUNTEER Fire Department annunces the new Chief f Department fr , Chief Jhn Jacbsen. Chief Jacbsen jined the department in February 1997 and has 21 years f service. A member f Hk and Ladder Cmpany Number One, the Rescue Squad, Ex-Captain f the hk and Ladder Cmpany, Hk and Ladder C. Firefighter f the year (2009) and recipient f a lifesaving Medal in Chief Jacbsen is a veteran f the United States Army and has served ur Cuntry in Iraq. We wish ur new Chief a safe tenure and rest assured the cmmunities f the Incrprated Village, Frt Salnga, Crab Meadw and Asharken are in excellent hands. The new Chief is supprted by First Assistant Chief / Twn f Huntingtn Fire Marshal Dennis Sheridan and newly elected Secnd Assistant Chief and career firefighter Duglas Pyne as well as 108 dedicated VOLUNTEERS. Trinity Lutheran Wmen f the ELCA Bard and Circles are spnsring a Daughters Lunchen n May 12, 2018 at 11:30 in the Fellwship Hall. Suggested dnatin is $5.00. The menu cnsists f chicken salad, fruit, a crissant and mini eclairs fr dessert. Entertainment will be prvided by Judy Lcke with interactive musical selectins. In hnr f Rachel's Day we will be cllecting in-kind items fr the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Edgewater. Rachel (wife f Jacb and mther f Jseph and Benjamin) was knwn fr her cncern fr children. Her day is celebrated in May. Items requested include baby wipes, large dispsable diapers, receiving blankets and tiletries fr mmmy and daddy gift bags fr the new parents.
