As a graduate, have been gong over the past four years and fnd that there s more to t than *hat. When the surface thoughts toave passed through my mnd, 'I always end up (pcturng myself -n -the many'dfferent classes I have attended and the many teachers who have unselfshly con trbuted to my educaton. The book learnng s of secondary mportance now. Knowng dates and -happenngs of 'the past.may h*vc ther place n the scheme of thngs, but the conscentous -devoton of I>r. ftaper taught me how a teacher should feel about hs work. Yes, T needed tranng n the art of oral communcaton. I do t well enough, too. tbut that sn't as mportant now as the prvledge of knowng Lady Burk, takng part n her class, and recevng a full porton of the " ncentve whch she Wholeheartedly spread before us. "I have had my problems. Many of the solutons have been sought and attaned whle sttng on the front stets of Telford. Tom Stone was never too busy to'lsten and to lend hs experence for the beheft of the student. Mr. Store s Eastern. I have also^felt my head grow out of porporton, too. Ths was a smple matter. A walk over to the lbrary for a short dscusson wth fclss Floyd who took care of any undue self-mportance I may have had. She'll call you a bonehead and you'll love her 'for t. Her prde n your 4ccomplshments wll ahow through no matter how hard she tres to hde t. These are the thngs you thnk about when you have reached thy rang on the ladder. 'I wonder "what t wfculd have been 'lke 'not to have taken a course wth Dr. MurbaCh, Dr. Ferrell anl Mr. Burns? I'm glad I don't have to thnk aboul that now.. IJhey have had so much to do wth preparng mt for the "future. I have covered the requrements. Boled down they can be carred easly enough. The feelng of beng qual fed stll rests wth the sprt for dong whch I have fror Dr. Coates. In what other school wll a professor applaud a student who has seen ft to dsagree wth a statement made by that professor? The alms of educaton would stll be prnted word* w thout the lvng examples of.mr. Mattox, Dr. Bngle, Dr Cuff and Dr. Ward. In what other school could a student say, " thnk Thoreau was a.nut," and have the professo answer, "Maybe you are rght. Sr" and not hold your con vctons aganst you? Yes, I dd say t to Professor Keone He s a part of the 'tjtopa he. wants Eastern to be. I learned a lot of grammar) at Eastern. I needed t, too But to st ;and lsten to a man phlosophze on the lfe good to 'lve and know that he was practcng t was even more mportant to me n Dr. Grse's classes. Even more mportaut than all the novels I have read. I know whch sde my ap pendx s on, Mr. Hopp. I also know how mportant t s t( be prepared to teach a class. He only mssed one class and that was because he was green all over. I am proud of Eastern. also feel proud and capable It s a prde whch comes from beng able to thnk. When was ths ablty developed? Those of you who have taken any classes wth Mr. Brooks need not ask that queston. He makes you feel as though you are on your own, but as soon as you stumble, he s there to see that you are not hurt and know better next tme. He s Eastern. Many students need someone wth whom they Gan confde. All the teachers at Eastern -are eager to help the student. The one that stands out n my mnd s Dr. Clark. You wll never leave the teachng professon, Sr. Your nstructon wll contnue to cover more and more area. I shall not receve a pece of parchment the end of May. I shall recvee a meanngful degree. I am a graduate who has taken part n the classes of Dr. Hounchell, Mr Lews, Dr. Barnhll, Mr. Adams, Dr. >Herndon and Mes Campbell. Thank you' Mr. Van. It s nce to see Mr. Tarwate back at Eastern. He belongs here. My shortcomngs are my own. My worth has been brought forth by nstructors of the best nsttuton of hgher learnng n ths country. The tme draws -near for my de, parture. I do not go to test my wngs. My fledglng days are over. Thank you, 'Eastern. THE ART OF HAPPINESS The ngredents of happness are so smple that the: can be counted on one 'hand. Happness comes from wthn and rests most securely on smple goodness and clear eon scence. Relgon tnus>-oe -essental 'to "t, and 'no one's known to -have ganed t wthout a phlosophy restng on ethcal prncples. Selfshness s ts enemy; to make another happy <* to be happy one's self t s quet, seldom found for lonf n crowds; most easly "won n moments of soltude and re flecton. The Dscovery Of Tme By BOB O'ltARA In the year 066 there was born to Freda and Joaqum of Upper Boredom, twn sons, Chester and Lester. The boys led a normal chldhood and grew ]Q manhood wth a deep affecton for one another. They were dentcal twns and the only way that ther parents could tell them apart was that Chester's left eye was blue and hs rght eye was brown, whle Lester's, left eye was brown whle hs rght eye was blue. Or was t Chester whose left eye was brown, well t sn't too mportant. Chester and Lester were toyng wth some mnor experments n Physcs n ther back yard on a late summer mornng when they ht on the dea of drawng a crcle n the drt and placng twelve stcks at equal dstances on the crcumference. When they had done ths they observed that the movement of the sun could be charted by the* shadow of the stcks. Ths left them wth the problem of what to name the stcks. "It was my dea," sad Chester, "so the rght to name them should be mne." "Thou art a bounder and a falsefer" screamed Lester, "The dea was mne, so I shall name them." "They are mne," sad Chester. "No," sad Lester, "they are mne." And so the argument went on, each clamng that the stcks were hs. Chester called a halt to the argument and sad, "Lester, we have never had an argument before. You clam that the stcks are yours and I say that they are mne. Let us both compromse and call them ours." And so the hour was born..
