1 2016 Summer Camps Registration for Summer Camp begins Monday, February 1, 9:00am. Register one of three ways: CLICK on Eparks at click on Activities tab and use the activity code number COME into a recreation facility or CALL Phone numbers and Addresses are on the last page. Due to the high volume of registration on February 1, Full payment of program fee is due at registration which is first come, first served. Phone and web registration requires payment with Visa or MasterCard only. Eparks 2.0 Online Registration. Please follow these steps to create an account in advance. Click: Eparks Click: Create an Account. A Login Name will be sent to you by . Provide name, address, phone number and related information to create an account for an adult. Create a password. It should contain at least 8 characters in length & at least one letter & one number. Your Login Name will be sent to you by . Your login name and password will allow you access to the advanced features of the site after you validate your address by clicking the validation link. Preschool Nature Itty Bitty Camp Fee: $35.00 Mon, August 29 - Fri, September 2 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Activity Ages: At least 3 but less than 5 Little ones and their favorite adult play and learn together, using their whole bodies to explore the natural world. Each day will include 1-2 themes, games, live animals, crafts, songs and snack. Parent participation required. To finalize registration, completed camp paperwork must be received by June 1. Mini Naturalist Camp: Wet n' Wild Adventure Fee: $85.00 Mon, June 13 - Fri, June 17 Activity :00AM to 12:00PM Ages: At least 4 but less than 7 School is out and summer is here! Get ready to explore Reedy Creek the "wet and wild" way. We will be exploring where animals and plants live by imagining we are those animals. One day we will be stomping in a creek, the next day flipping logs in the forests and much more. Wherever we go, plan on a wet and muddy time! Mini Naturalist Camp: Animal Safari

Explore the preserve in search of these creatures. Learn their history, their habits and more through outdoor exploration, hands-on discovery, and fun activities. Mini Naturalist Camp: Predator and Prey Fee: $85.00 Mon, July 18 - Fri, July 22 Activity :00AM 12:00PM Ages: At least 4 but less than 7 This week campers will learn about the relationship between predator and their prey! Explore animal survival strategies like sneaking, stalking and camouflage while searching for these animals throughout the preserve. Animal Olympics Camp Fee: $70.00 Tue, July 5 - Fri, July 8 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Activity Ages: At least 4 but less than 6 There are amazing animals all over the world that can run, swim, and jump better than the best human athletes. Campers will become nature artists as they explore Youth 4-H 4-H: Aerospace: Lift-Off Camp Location: Tom Sykes Recreation Center Fee: $80.00 Mon, July 25 - Fri, July 29 8:00 AM to 5:00PM Activity Ages: At least 9 but less than 13 Are you fascinated with flying an airplane, launching a rocket, exploring space or becoming an astronaut or pilot, then this camp is for you! Designed to stimulate interest and enthusiasm for limitless opportunities through fun and challenging activities, youth will learn about airplanes, kites, gliders, space shuttles, helicopters and more, along with workforce competencies and other life skills.

3 4-H: Into the Wild Camp Location: Tom Sykes Recreation Center Fee: $80.00 Mon, July 18 - Fri, July 22 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Activity Ages: At least 9 but less than 13 Children will have fun engaging in the natural habitats of animals and earth science through everyday summer camp fun experiments and 4-H: Motorsports Camp Location: Tom Sykes Recreation Center Fee: $ Mon, June 27 - Fri, July 1 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Activity Ages: At least 9 but less than 13 Participants in the day camp will experience the life of a pit crew as they design, update and race radio-controlled cars. By using specific math, engineering and technology skills, the participants will solve real-life racing problems. We will visit the Nascar Hall of Fame and Charlotte Motor Speedway. 4-H: Robotics Rocks Camp Location: Tom Sykes Recreation Center Fee: $80.00 Mon, July 11 - Fri, July 15 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Activity Ages: At least 9 but less than 13 4-H Robotics introduces robotics to youth while developing decision-making and critical thinking skills, and implements an understanding of the scientific/engineering design processes as they build real and virtual robots. Youth will use the tools of technology to enhance their earning and be able to apply the skills and knowledge they are developing to new challenges. Nature Miniature & Magnificent Mon, August 22 - Fri, August 26 Activity Calling all kids with a love for little things! In this camp, we will use microscopes, magnifying glasses, even just our hands to look at everything that is small, smaller, and smallest. Come get up close and personal with the teeny tiny living things! Mountain Sports Adventure Camp Mon, August 8 - Fri, August 12 Activity plus 2 overnights Ages: At least 11 but less than 14 Beat the heat and escape to the mountains this summer! If you re looking for high adventure, then this is the camp for you! From rock climbing to bouldering to exploring caves, this camp has it all. Monday and Tuesday will be spent in the Charlotte area, but Wednesday through Friday will be a 2-night trip to the mountains. Highlights will include sliding down a waterfall at Sliding Rock, swimming in Lake Fontana, and spending a night in Craighead Caverns. This camp is limited to 9 campers, so act quickly to reserve your child s spot! Naturally Artful Mon, July 25 - Fri, July 29 Activity 38304

4 Calling all creative nature lovers! Adventure and creativity combine in this unique camp. Dress to get messy! We will be knee-deep in mud and elbow-deep in paint! Nature Ninjas Mon, June 20 - Fri, June 24 Activity "What makes a ninja? Lightning speed? Perfect camouflage? The right weaponry? Learn what makes our local predators fearsome warriors. T hen you can decide if you have what it takes to be a Nature Ninja!" Outdoor Adventure Camp Mon, June 13 - Fri, June 17 Activity Mon, July 11 - Fri, July 15 Activity This classic favorite is five full days of outdoor fun and exploration. We ll learn a variety of outdoor skills including hiking, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, and more! A hike through a beautiful wooded stream will keep us cool and take us to places our camps have never been. We ll wrap up the week with a field trip adventure to the mountains. Young Explorers Camp Location: Latta Plantation - Medium Shelter #2 at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve Fee: $85.00 Mon, August 1 - Thu, August 4 Activity Mon, August 15 - Thu, August 18 Activity :00AM to 12:00pm Ages: At least 6 but less than 8 This half-day version of our popular Outdoor Adventure Camp is just perfect for the Young Explorer in your family. Each day will focus on a different outdoor recreation activity. Campers will explore the nature preserve by going canoeing, hiking, hunting for hidden treasure, fishing and more! Warning: Our expeditions may lead to a lifelong passion for adventure in the Great Outdoors! Outdoor Explorers Camp: Splish Splash Mon, August 1 - Fri, August 5 Activity Mon, August 22 Fri, August 26 Activity Adventurous and curious campers venture far and wide to discover the wonders of nature. Wild Wanderers travel to the other nature preserves for hiking and canoeing fun. Each week also includes favorite activities such as stream walks and live animal encounters. Choose 1 week per theme. Paddle Sport Adventure Camp Fee: Standard charge: $ Mon, August 1 - Fri, August 5 Activity Ages: At least 11 but less than 14 Stay cool this summer! Explore Mountain Island Lake by kayak, canoe, and paddleboard! This water-based camp will allow campers to earn advanced paddle sport skills from American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Instructors. Topics will include water safety, equipment, advanced maneuvers, rescues and more. After mastering the necessary skills on the lake, campers will go on two river adventure trips to the Catawba and PeeDee Rivers. To register for this program, campers must have strong basic swimming skills (i.e. be able tread water for at least one minute and swim a pool-length unassisted). Piedmont Expedition Camp Mon, June 20 - Fri, June 24 Activity Mon, June 27 - Fri, July 1 Activity We ll go on five expeditions in this exciting camp! These treks will give us the opportunity to learn survival skills, Leave No Trace ethics/ methods, go canoeing, hike an off-site stream, build Atlatls, start fires and do some trekking/ canyoneering. This fast paced camp will spend most of its time outside of the preserve and will be a physically intense camp focused on outdoor adventure and excitement! R.O.S.S. (Reedy Outdoor Survival School) Camp Fee: $ Mon, June 27 - Fri, July 1 Activity Connect to the land like you have never done before by learning the "old ways" in life. Learn an appreciation of primitive and survival skills and the artistic beauty of traditional crafts. In this camp you make cordage, create fire, rock knap, build shelters, track and go on adventurous hikes. Immerse yourself in the environment and be one with nature on this journey to a forgotten way of life. Reedy Creek Time Travelers Mon, July 11 - Fri, July 15 Activity Over the course of a week, these campers will travel through different time periods at Reedy Creek. We will transport ourselves all the way back to prehistoric times, then make our way to the present and into the future! Join us to track down dinosaurs, live like early humans, build Robinson Rock House, and much more! Reedy Residents

6 Mon, August 1 - Fri, August 5 Activity Around here, there is a lot of water and a lot of woods! These are great places for animals to live. We will go on a creek walk, explore pond life, hike in the woods, and dig in the dirt. How many wild Reedy Residents do you think will we find? Reedy Rock Stars Fee: Registration for Private Individual 1 Week Session Mon, August 8 - Fri, August 12 Activity Have you ever noticed the interesting boulders in the nature preserve? Where did they come from? Investigate their origin along with many other rocky activities such as gold panning, gem mining, hiking, games and rock related crafts. Junior Biologist Camp Fee: $85.00 per week Mon, June 20 - Fri, June 24 Activity Mon, June 27 - Fri, July 1 Activity Ages: At least 6 but less than 8 What is a Biologist? Join us for this exciting week as campers become biologists and study the natural world around them from plants to animals. We ll study insects, mammals, scat and tracks, and learn how to use naturalist tools like microscopes, insect nets and hand lenses. We ll enjoy a fun day of canoeing as we study a lake habitat. Little Critter Camp: Animal Adventure Fee: $85.00 per week Mon, June 20 - Fri, June 24 9:00AM to 12:00PM Activity :00 to 4:00PM Activity Ages: At least 5 but less than 7 Kids who are crazy about nature love to get outside and get messy. Animal Adventure campers will discover their wild side as they learn about Little Critter Camp: Big Backyard Fee: Standard charge: $85.00 Mon, August 8 - Fri, August 12 9:00AM to 12:00PM Activity :00 to 4:00PM Activity Ages: At least 5 but less than 7 Kids who are crazy about nature love to get outside and get messy. Big Backyard campers will explore all 1,100 acres of the preserve to see what makes nature so exciting! Choose am (9am-12pm) or pm (1-4pm) per theme. Adventure Camp: Junior Naturalist per week Mon, July 11 - Fri, July 15 Activity Mon, July 18 - Fri, July 22 Activity :00 AM to 4:00 PM Pre-teens can expect to challenge themselves as they deepen their understanding of the natural world. Junior Naturalists dip their feet into a naturalist's position as they explore different elements such as animals, plants, and rocks. Choose 1 week per theme. Discover aquatic ecology as we learn to canoe and go on a stream study hike. Learn about animal homes while we build shelters. Discover edible plants while we go on a hike and so much more. We will also end the week with a field trip to Crowder s Mountain State Park. Aquatics Camp Cannonball Location: Ray's Splash Planet Fee: $ per week Mon, June 13 - Fri, June 17 Activity Mon, June 27 - Fri, July 1 Activity Mon, August 8 - Fri, August 12 Activity :30 AM to 6:00 PM Ages: At least 6 but less than 12 This camp incorporates everything Ray's Splash Planet has to offer and more! Participants will take part in a variety of learning opportunities as well as physical activities on a daily basis for the ultimate camp experience. Did I mention that have our own indoor water park? Whether it's going on a field trip to Carowinds or exploring Irwin Creek or zipping down the Blue Comet, Camp Cannonball has it all. Camp Neptune Location: Aquatic Center Fee: $175 per week Mon, June 20 - Fri, June 24 Activity Mon, July 11 - Fri, July 15 Activity Mon, August 1 - Fri, August 5 Activity Mon, August 15 - Fri, August 19 Activity :30am to 5:30pm Ages: At least 8 but less than 14 A water based day camp for boys and girls ages Campers are dropped off daily at The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center and the fun begins...from learning how to wakeboard to a water park trip. Other activities include: Water Basketball, Snorkeling, Springboard Diving, Water Polo, Games, and much more. Must be able to swim 200 Yards unassisted in deep water. 11 Traditional Camp Explore S'More Location: Mallard Creek Recreation Center Fee: $70.00 Mon, August 15 - Fri, August 19 Activity :30 AM to 5:30 PM Ages: At least 6 but less than 12 This specialty week is for those children who just didn't get enough exploring during regular camp. This week is limited to 12 participants and will feature children exploring outdoor activities such as pitching tents, hiking, orienteering, outdoor survival skills, and more, and yes of course, there will be s'mores.
