5 @ Vacatlon Plannn After 49 or 50 weeks of workng, that two or three week vacaton s most welcome ths tme of year. But make sure your vacaton s well planned. Here are a few thngs to keep n mnd when workng out the detals of your trp: PLAN YOUR ROUTE Plan your trp out well n advance, makng sure you have the latest road maps of the area. The AAA and many ol companes provde a mappng servce at a relatvely small charge and wll provde all tle nformaton you need. Don t drve for extended perods, and plan your stops n advance. Make motel reservatons ahead of tme. Many tmes you wll be able to fnd a motel vacancy when when you are ready to stop, but other tmes you wll not. Allow suffcent tme for "pt stops" durng tlae trp for meals, calls of mother nature, and stretchng your legs. BEFORE LEAVNG Before departng there are a few thngs whch you should do. Stop your mal delvery untl you return, and also stop any newspaper delvery. f you are plannng on beng away for an extended perod of tme, make arrangements for someone to cut the grass. Leave a lght on, or use a tmer whch turns the lghts on and offat a certan tme of the day. A dark house wth mal and newspapers on the porch and the lawn unmowed s a sgnal to burglars that nobody s home. Notfy the polce when you are leavng and when you expect to return, and gve the same nformaton to a neghbor. The polce can make perodc checks of your home, and a neghbor wll be able to watch for any actvty whle you are away. ENOUGH MONEY Take enough money along to handle all antcpated expenses and a lttle extra just n case. Travelers checks are the best protecton aganst theft snce they can be replaced. Many areas wll not accept personal checks. Gasolne credt cards are useful on a trp, and many are now honored at motels. PETS f you are plannng on takng the famly pet wth you, make sure the motels you plan to stay at allow pets. n hot weather you wll have to make more frequent stops for your pet, and have adequate drnkngwater for lfm. Make reservatons well n advance f you ntend boardng your pet whle you are gone. Some people "farm out" ther pets whle on ~Tacaton. f so, make sure that whoever s carng for the pet knows any "qurks" or specal feedng habts. TAKE YOUR CAMERA Vacatons are fun, and the fun can be relved f you take your stll or move camera along. A lot of jokes are made about home moves, but they can brngback a lot offend memores durng the wnter months. TRAVEL SAFELY Most mportant o fall, travel safely. Drve carefully, and look out for the otherguy. Don t tre yourself out gettng there and returnng. Take plenty of tme and see some of Amerca on your trp. For one thng, the thousands of nnocent people klled n Vetnam are klled by VC terrorsts. don t hear too many people condemnng them. Why do the VC have to pck on women and chldren and not just mltary men? By the defnton of fascsm, how n the world can a college student call Presdent Nxon s move nto Camboda a fascst tactc? t would be nce f people took a lttle tme to be sure of a word s defnton before they throw t around. Accordng to Mss Mtlorat~ statement, am led to belev~ that she would be wllng to: someone to draw a lne wthhe: on one sde and somebody m the other. The rules of the game would be that Mss Mlora could never, ever cross that lne but the other person could cross and re-cross at anytme. Now the other person sneaks across the lne and htts Mss Mlord and qutekly re-crosses the lne where Mss Mlord could not go. would lke to ask Mss Mlord f she would be wllng to play ths game? Thts s the game she wants our mltary men to play n Vetnam. t also seems to me that Mss Mlord doesn t llkeher"rlghts" tampered wth but she doesn t mnd tamperng wth the rghts of others. f a man wants to belong to and partcpate n ROTC why should he be dented that rght? Now, how can a mltary man be n conflct wth the workng class when the organzaton he belongs to contrbutes to the workng man s wages through defense contracts? t takes a nave "lttle grl" to wrte such contradctory statements. have never seen any Natonal Guardsmen used to "break" strkes n Manvlle, Somervlle or a thousand other examples, except for the postal strke where they were not used to "break" a strke but used to keep a necessty gong. Where would your letter be Mss Mlers f the post offce stopped functonng; Mss Mlora, where would the Unted States be? Wake up "lttle grl" and make at least coherent statements even though they are out n left feld somewhere, Joseph Chunko 105 Czapllckt St., Manvlle Edtor, The Manvlle News: would just lke to take a few words to say that am n favor of a rase for our polcemen, as well as know many other people are. t s a good feelng to know when want a polceman, freman, or rescue squadman, all have to do s pck up my telephone and help s Just mnutes away. Our Manvlle polce deserve every penny they make. Of course, some people say, "We dealt have crme n Manvlle." Maybe we donft, but who helps keep t that way? Our q)oys n blue" do. Every tme they go on a call there s a rsk nvolved. f someone calls and suspects an ntruder n ther home, who goes n? "The cops." They should get pad for that rsk. Mss Mlord, how many nnocent people who have wanted to lve as you and and all of our own people have been butchered by the ones you say are the peace lovng people? How many people were klled by the West Germans tryng to flee to the worker s paradse n East Germany?
