The mission of NorthHaven Church is to enable people to discover a loving and inclusive fellowship, connect them with the principles of free and faithful Baptists, and inspire them to be the presence of Christ to the world. As a local congregation, we are committed to a missional philosophy of bringing the Good News to our neighbors, whether they are across the street or across the globe. 2 1 A Letter From the Pastor Starting a new construction project and capital campaign in one of the worst economies in recent times may sound a bit out of the ordinary. NorthHaven, however, has never been an ordinary church looking to do ordinary things. From our humble beginnings, the founders transcended ordinary approaches in starting a church, choosing instead to cultivate a vibrant congregation seeking to be the presence of Christ to all those around them. The words of the Apostle Paul courageously echo in our ears, I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us (Romans 8:18). With the same thought stirring our minds, we move towards a future destined to be filled with countless opportunities and great rewards for the divine mission God has placed in our hearts. Beginning this fall, NorthHaven seeks to take the next gallant steps in approaching our next greater chapter. With new faces routinely arriving through our doors each month and space for growth dwindling, the time has come to move our efforts towards building a beautiful new two-story facility, giving us room for future ministries and missional expansion. Over the past year, the New Construction and Capital Campaign Committees have tirelessly prayed and worked to make certain they were recommending the right next step. Their dedication and commitment to this project inspires the soul and brings a hopeful direction for our consideration. Therefore, the decision to move forward now rests with each of us. Both committees are asking the congregation to prayerfully consider committing to this great endeavor. We understanding the significance before us. However, it is time is to move forward prudently depending on God s divine guidance and encouragement as we work together in faithful obedience. Give your utmost attention to the following report and recommendations, because the future of NorthHaven begins now. Together, we move forward into a brighter tomorrow, knowing God always provides secure footing in the midst of shaky times. Therefore, when we hear the laughter of children playing and learning about Jesus, youth locked in a debate about their faith and places in the world, and the choir preparing for morning worship, we can remember Paul s thought: God s glory is now revealed to us. With much admiration, R. Mitch Randall Senior Pastor

NorthHaven s Founding Vision The Cooperating Baptist Fellowship of Oklahoma (CBFO) began planning for a series of new church starts in Oklahoma A partnership with CBFO was established to begin a new church in Norman, OK National CBF in Atlanta, GA commissioned a planning group to conduct various surveys in the Norman area, which found that a new moderate Baptist church was feasible, and that northwest Norman would be the best location for a new church start Approximately twenty-five members of First Baptist Church, Norman formed a core group to help plan a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship church in Norman, and began meeting in homes to help plan the new work. Attendance continued to grow The first formal worship service for the new church was held on April 18, 2004, in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Norman. The new Baptist fellowship grew quickly to seventy-five members. When the group outgrew the Chapel, worship services were moved to the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. NorthHaven Church was chosen as the name, and a ten-acre tract of land in northwest Norman was donated to the church for its permanent location. Lavonn Brown was appointed interim pastor, subject to the call of a new pastor. Sheri Ridenour was approved by the congregation as Secretary and Clerk. As the church had no space of its own, a church member donated office space and the church opened its office in July on Main Street.

The church began raising funds for a new building to be located at th Ave. NW. The church hired Kaighn and Associates as architect to design Phase I, an all-purpose facility housing a worship center and fellowship hall, education space, and office space. The goal for the capital campaign was quickly met, and Landmark Construction Company was soon hired as general contractor to complete the 15,100 sq. ft. facility Ground for the new facility was officially broken on March 26th. The congregation called Dr. R. Mitch Randall as senior pastor on December 17th.

In September, the congregation was able to move into the new facility located at th Ave. NW. Since 2007, the congregation has grown adding new members. In particular, we have seen a large growth among young families with children NorthHaven launched NorthHaven Day School that ministers to over 100 children per week in our community.

The Long-Range Planning Committee conducted a survey on the long-term needs of the congregation, and determined that one of our greatest needs was space. The committee recommended that the church create a Construction Committee and Capital Campaign committee to proceed with financing and building additional space for the church. Thus, both committees were formed and worked diligently On April 18th, the church celebrated its 7th anniversary. Church membership has grown from an original group of approximately 30 members to over 200. The Capital Campaign Committee will officially launch the Charting our Future Campaign on August 14th, and the Construction Committee will start reviewing architects for Phase II soon.

Why is it important that we start the next phase in the building process? 6 There are many, many more people like us out there who need a spiritual home that is reasonable, positive in philosophy, non- judgmental and caring for all from many walks of life. Without more room, we can't grow, and if we can't grow, there is no place for those who are looking. Susan Chambers "At some point you either grow or go backwards. We are at that point now." Bob Stephenson The time is now to build for the future. Vera Taylor It s great to see more and more kids grow up at NorthHaven, so we need the space for them to grow and play and learn. Rachael Ridenour "We're out of room! There should be room for all who want to come." June Price "To exist in the status quo is the enemy of progress so we must continue to be active with plans for providing space for those who want to be and need to be a member of our Fellowship. Dale Geis We did not start this church to serve our own generation. We began it to serve the next generation. Dan Hobbs

7 Construction and Capital Campaign Report I: Current Building Status Since the current building was completed in 2007, numerous Iloor and sheetrock cracks have appeared, and continue to appear, throughout the building. In the spring of 2010, the church contacted Kaighn and Associates, the original architect, to determine the cause and provide a solution. The church received an unsatisfactory report from Kaighn and Associates several months later, and proceeded with retaining the legal services of Heidi Long, with Holladay and Chilton, PLLC, to represent the church. During the summer of 2010, the church hired Bob Zahl, structural engineer with Zahl- Ford, Inc., to provide an independent assessment. He concluded that while the building was structurally sound, he thought water underneath the building was causing the soil to expand, which caused the Iloor slab to move. Meanwhile, the church also hired Mark C. Grubbs, P.E., with Grubbs Consulting, LLC to prepare civil engineering plans for a proposed expansion of parking. Mr. Grubbs discovered signiiicant drainage issues on the property that need to be addressed prior to starting any construction. During his planning, he received opinions from several geotechnical engineers who thought that water was not causing the Iloor slab movement. Therefore, the church decided to proceed with testing to determine the cause of the slab movement. Smith- Roberts, Inc., recently performed a survey of the internal elevation of the church, which was provided to Terracon, Inc. to perform a subsurface exploration of the property. Terracon recently drilled three borings on the interior of the building, and determined that there are no problems with our current facility... the slab has moved normally, and once the slab is done moving, we can Iix the aesthetics. II: Drainage Update During the summer of 2010, the Construction Committee determined that the church needed to expand the current parking lot to accommodate growth, and after reviewing several civil engineering proposals, hired Mark C. Grubbs, P.E., with Grubbs Consulting, LLC. Mr. Grubbs soon discovered that the church property had signiiicant drainage issues that would need to be addressed prior to adding parking or starting construction on Phase II of the building process.

8 The Construction Committee decided that Iixing the drainage problems was a priority and, after receiving church approval, contracted with Mr. Grubbs last fall to prepare civil engineering plans for the entire property, which included an overall master drainage plan. After several months, the plans were completed, approved by the City of Norman, and presented to the church in May 2011 (Addendum 1). Mr. Grubb s estimated that it could cost approximately $740,000 for total improvements, which includes earthwork, waterlines, storm sewers, paving, and other expenses related to Iixing the property s drainage problems. Addendum 1

9 III: Four- Year Financial Analysis of NorthHaven ( ) Recently, a four- year Iinancial analysis of general contributions for was performed. Since 2007, the church realized an increase of approximately 9.4% annually in general revenues received. The data was further broken down into the following giving unit categories: ages 25-39, 40-54, 55-69, 70+ and Unknown. Following is a chart showing the four- year revenues based on the various categories. (Note: Unknown donors are not included in chart). We have seen a steady increasing trend for all categories that we have data for. Since 2007, revenues increased (decreased) annually by the following percentages: Giving unit category Ages 25-39: 128.0% Ages 40-54: 42.1% Ages 55-69: 37.8% Ages 70+: 11.6% Unknown: (39.7%)

: $148,555 Total General Contributions Per Year: 2008: $365,952, which represents an increase of 146.3% since : $346,265, which represents a decrease of 5.4% since : $407,126, which represents an increase of 17.6% since 2009 We feel that the steady increase in growth in the lower- aged giving unit categories is a reilection of the growth in our young families, especially as a result of the success of our children s department. We expect to see a growth in families with youth, with the hiring of a full- time youth minister. We also hope that our other categories will continue to grow, especially with the implementation of Compass Groups in early Fall IV: New Building (Phase II) The Construction Committee was formed in the summer of 2010 to address the parking and space needs of the congregation. The committee spent most of the past year laying the groundwork for Phase II, including having the civil engineering plans completed; trying to determine the cause of, and solution to, the current building s slab movement; and determining the type of new building to construct. The committee, along with the Advisory Committee, determined that education space is a priority, along with a large open space, and additional storage. Therefore, it is proposed that Phase II will be a two- story structure, at approximately 13,000 to 15,000 sq. feet, and will be connected to the current building through an extension of the atrium. The second story might be left partially uniinished to reduce costs, but would be Iinished at a later date. The lower story will house classrooms for children, storage, and a choir room, with the upper Iloor likely reserved for youth. A large open space will likely be located on the second story as well (Addendums 2 and 3 show conceptual layouts). Classrooms in the current building will be renovated to house adult classrooms and additional ofiice space. Most of the drainage improvements proposed in the civil engineering plans will need to be completed prior to starting construction. The committee hopes to hire an architect early in the fall of 2011.

11 New construction estimates: Drainage and Parking Estimate $750,000 New Construction Estimate for the building $2,750,000 Total Estimated Cost $3.5 million Note: Addendum 2 is a concept for a two- story facility, 20,000 feet at approximately $3.1 million. This does not include the $750,000 for drainage and parking costs. Addendum 2 Concept

13 Charting our Future V: The Charting our Future Capital Campaign Committee The Capital Campaign Committee was formed during the summer of 2010 to help raise funds for Phase II, in addition to providing guidance for the management and investment of those funds. During the past year, the committee interviewed several capital fundraising companies, and decided that it was in the best interest of the church to conduct an internal campaign. In addition, the committee prepared a plan for investing funds received, and the church recently opened a new brokerage account and treasury fund for Phase II. Although the church has yet to meet with any architects, preliminary cost estimates for Phase II are approximately $3.5 million, which covers the drainage, parking, building, and furnishings. The church received $1 million in June 2011 for the campaign, and has already received additional pledges in the amount of $2 million to be received over the next two years. Therefore, this leaves an additional $500,000 to be raised by the congregation over a period of several years. Your Pledge It has become time to begin the Charting our Future capital campaign to expand our facilities. We are asking you, our faithful members, to carry this charge and help us build this wonderful new facility. This charge is to make a pledge, paid out over three years, that will transform the face of NorthHaven Church. This pledge is in addition to our continued general contributions. Your pledge is for three consecutive Iiscal years. All gifts are tax- deductible. This construction cannot take place without you. We all play a role in the direction that NorthHaven Church will take. Please take the attached pledge card home and prayerfully consider your role in this new direction NorthHaven Church will head. We will also provide offering envelopes for your convenience. We ask for your prayers as we begin this exciting endeavor together.
