The event was great & Chef Mac and his staff made it super special. The outside public was invited and we had quite a crowd!

2 May 2009 PICNIC AT THE PIER Searching for Hobbyists We are looking to put together a Hobby Show and need items for display. If you have any special pieces that you would like people to see, contact Adele at extension It was a gorgeous morning for our trip to the pier on Lake Jackson. Fresh air, sunshine and great food contributed to a super Saturday. Jerry, our driver, was full of wonderful information, pointing out different places that could be seen from our tables and telling us all about the local history. Kite Days A kite, a sky and a good firm breeze, And acres of ground away from trees, And 100 yards of clean, strong string- Oh boy! Oh boy! I call that Spring! Marge DaVinci Bob Lonergan waves as he soaks up the sunshine after lunch. Marge Sella decided to brush some creative strokes onto the Resident s Canvas. She said it was very therapeutic. After everyone has a chance to add their own mark on the painting, it will be hung in the Wellness office as a representation of our Palms family.

3 Chaplain s Chat By Chaplain Cecil Hess Here is an interesting story, which may or may not be true: Many years ago in Duluth, Minnesota, a Jewish man was run over in the iron mines. He was taken to a Catholic hospital, where an Episcopal doctor removed his leg. There, a Presbyterian woman, feeling sorry for the man, wrote to the editor of a Congregational paper in Chicago, asking him to advertise in his paper asking anyone to donate a wooden leg to the Jewish man in a Catholic hospital, whose leg was amputated by an Episcopal doctor. A Methodist woman in Illinois saw the ad in the Congregational paper. Her late husband, who was a Baptist, had owned a wooden leg. She telephoned the Salvation Army officer, who came by to pick up the late Baptist s wooden leg. He took it the express office where a Lutheran messenger delivered it to an Evangelical nurse in Duluth. The nurse took it to the Catholic hospital, where it was strapped on the Jewish man. Guess what they called this man??? A United Brethren! The story may have its humor, but it was a deeper point as well. In our community here at The Palms, we come from many backgrounds and traditions. But may our differences pale in comparison to our willingness to serve each other, united in our efforts to live as brothers and sisters under the Fatherhood of God. ~GIRL S LUNCH~ Tillie Henderson, Drene Countryman and Jean Snow enjoyed a very filling meal at Don Jose s on Let s Eat Out day. The restaurant is on Lake Jackson with a beautiful view and yummy Mexican cuisine. A frozen margarita tops the meal off nicely too! How Does Your Garden Grow? Can you find all of the gardening words? 4 May 2009 High Tea The tinkling of cups & saucers, fresh scones and appetizers along with our guest speaker Marty Albritton made for a classy High Tea extravaganza! The Poinsettia Castle was host for this 50 th Anniversary event and several of our residents chambers were available for touring. May Birthdays A Taurus (Apr.20-May 20) is reliable, stubborn, ambitious, loves rewards, and appreciates the good life. A Gemini (May 21-Jun 20) sometimes seems to have two natures, loves to talk, is intellectual, forges strong relationships, and can be the life of the party.
