8 NEW TEMPLE DESCRIBED 40:1-43:11 The purposes for this detailed description are given 43:10 Son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and let them measure the pattern. 43:11-12 Write it down in their sight, so that they may keep its whole design and all its ordinances, and perform them.

10 DIFFERENCE IN THE PRIESTHOOD And the Levites who went far from Me, when Israel went astray, who strayed away from Me after their idols, they shall bear their iniquity. 11 Yet they shall be ministers in My sanctuary, as gatekeepers of the house and ministers of the house; they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister to them. 12 Because they ministered to them before their idols and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity, therefore I have raised My hand in an oath against them, says the Lord GOD, that they shall bear their iniquity. 13 And they shall not come near Me to minister to Me as priest, nor come near any of My holy things, nor into the Most Holy Place; but they shall bear their shame and their abominations which they have committed. 14 Nevertheless I will make them keep charge of the temple, for all its work, and for all that has to be done in it. 15 But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood, says the Lord GOD. Eze 44:10 15.

11 WHAT WAS THE FUNCTION OF THE TEMPLE?

12 THE PURPOSE OF THE ANCIENT TABERNACLE Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. Ex. 40:34-38

13 WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE ANCIENT TABERNACLE? God s place of Atonement, so he could continue to dwell with His people Then the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil. And he shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar which is before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of meeting; and he shall pour the remaining blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Lev 4:17-18

14 THE PURPOSE OF THE ANCIENT TABERNACLE So God could dwell among his people, a place of presence And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it. Ex. 25:8-9

15 FROM TABERNACLE TO TEMPLE The Temple takes over for the tabernacle, since tabernacle was temporary and Israel is permanently in the Land

17 MEMORIAL OF THE DEATH OF THE MESSIAH The Church s memorial is physical The church s memorial ceases with the second coming 1 Cor 11:26 The physical ceremony of the blood sacrifices will help Israel remember the body and blood of the Messiah. 18 THE MEANS OF RESTORING FELLOWSHIP FOR THE MILLENNIAL SAINT Restoring fellowship is different than salvation, it allows the enjoyment of blessing which salvation secured.

19 RITUAL CLEANSING FOR RITUAL UNCLEANNESS Just as the sacrifices provided cleansing for defilement for the OT saint, so to the Temple will provide cleansing for the millennial saint Since the Shechinah will reside in the holy of holies of the Millennial Temple, it would be impossible to approach the temple compound in a state of ritual impurity. Therefore the sacrifices will be for the cleansing of ceremonial uncleanness. Ibid, 10.
