She was born Bet in Pennsylvania15, and died December 05, 1896 in Pennsylvania16. Notes for JOSEPH MCCLOSKEY: Joseph's obituary appeared in the Democratic Watchman, Bellefonte, PA, on August 13, 1875: McCloskey - At his home in Curtin township, August 5, 1875, Joseph McCloskey, aged 63 years, two months, and 14 days. His disease was dyspepsia. The subject of this obituary was born near Young Woman's Town, on the Susquehannah River, and moved with his parents at an early day to Howard township, this county. While quite young his father died leaving a wife and five children dependent on Joseph for support. Not withstanding he had to endure the hardships and privations of a life in an unsettled country, he discharged the duty that rested upon him with fidelity. Some 20 years ago, he purchased a tract of land on Marsh Creek not a foot of which was cleared, moved on the same shortly after. Commencing at the lower rung by honest toil he climbed to comfortable circumstances. He was one of the prime movers in bringing Curtin township into existence and although he never craved the emoluments of office, he was elected and received to the most responsible offices in the township for a period of fifteen years in succesion. Viewing principles from a Democratic standpoint, he received the nomination and subsequent election to the office of commission in The faithful manner in which he transacted business for the county is fresh in the memory of all. A man of large business capacity and great public spirit he grasped every subject with wonderful readiness and had few superiors in natural ability. Amid the temptations of an eminent worldly business, his character was not dimmed, but on the contrary shone grandly with the sterling qualities of truth and honesty. Believing the Gospel as preached by the Disciple Brethren, he became a member of that church several years ago. During his late illness his suffering was great, but he bore it with Christian patience and often expressed a desire to go when the master saw it to end his sufferings. Death to him lost all its terrors and the future seemed lighted up with the approving smile of Him who conquered death and said, "Because I live, you shall live also." He was the father of seven children, all boys, who administered to his wants and surrounded his bed with their aged mother when his spirit took its flight. His remains were followed by a large train of sympathize friends to the cemetery at Howard, at which place business was suspended for the time being and all turned out to pay their last tribute of respect. The funeral discourse was preached by Elder Lloyd. "Requiesent in Peace" and let us hope that on Judgement Day he may stand with the redeemed of every land.
