1 Gen. 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. This clearly signifies that God ordained the order of male and female, not male and male, or female and female, or any other variation.

2 Lev. 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Lev. 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

3 Lev. 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. 7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover Gen. 9:20 Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father s nakedness. 24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

7 Gen. 19:5 And they [i.e. the men of Sodom, the sodomites] called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. Dt. 23:17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

8 I Kgs. 14:22 And Judah did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. 24 And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem

9 I Kgs. 15:10 And forty and one years reigned he [Asa] in Jerusalem And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land I Kgs. 22:45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 46 And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land. II Kgs. 23:5 he [King Josiah] put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven. 6 And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people. 7 And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD

10 There can be no doubt the Old Testament condemns homosexuality as a detestable act worthy of death. But why such harsh penalty for a simple "sexual orientation? The answer lies in the overall context in which the Old Testament is written. God had promised the Messiah who would be the Saviour. If homosexuality was allowed to run rampant, it would threaten the arrival of the Messiah and thereby make God's Word invalid (essentially making God incapable), and this cannot be. Since God works through people, He provided the harshness of the law to guard people from their own sins, the sins of others, and ultimately provide a way by which the Messiah would come and die on the cross for our sins.

11 To call a union of two persons of the same sex a "marriage" is a misnomer. In the Bible, marriage is a divinely-ordained and ordered institution designed to form a permanent union between one man and one woman for one purpose (among others) of procreating or propagating the human race. That was God's order in the first of such unions, and the only union that knows His blessing Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Matt. 19:5 And [Jesus] said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh If, in His original creation of humans, God had created two persons of the same sex, there would not be a human race in existence today.

12 Ah, but David and Jonathan Ruth and Naomi! I Sam. 18:1 And it came to pass that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. Ruth 1:14 Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her [Naomi]. 16 And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

13 In the New Testament Mk. 10:5 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. I Cor. 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? 14 Rom. 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

16 Is. 62:5 As the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. Rev. 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband 9 Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

17 God has made me a homosexual No baby is born a homosexual. Every baby is born male or female. In every place the Bible refers to homosexuality, the emphasis is upon the perversion of sexuality. In each example of Scripture where homosexuality has been prevalent, God has come in terrible judgment.

18 In our present times, there is an unprecedented permissiveness and promiscuity that indicates the greatest judgment ever, as we approach the end of the age Matt. 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

19 We must always keep before us the fact that homosexuals, - like all of us, - have been born into sin. Furthermore, the Bible says, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8). Jesus Christ "is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" (I Jn. 2:2). The Christian who shares God's love for lost sinners will seek to reach the homosexual with the Gospel of Christ, which "is the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth" (Rom. 1:16). As a Christian I should hate all sin but I can find no justification nor command for hating the sinner. The homosexual is a precious soul who needs to be saved. We have the only Gospel that brings them eternal salvation, by pointing them to Christ. He commanded us, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mk. 16:5). Therefore, we are obligated to take the Gospel to all.

20 The homosexual needs Christ as does every sinner. As we would do with every sinner, we would direct them to Christ. Then, they must face the fact the Bible teaches they are living in sin They must have the desire to be made free from it. True Freedom Trust. is a confidential Christian support and teaching ministry for men and women who accept the Bible s prohibition of same-sex practice and yet are aware of same-sex attractions, or struggle with other sexual and relational issues. We also offer support to families, friends and church leaders of those who face these issues in their lives. A truly born-again person cannot continue to practise sin without reaping the results of miserable unhappiness brought on by loss of fellowship with God, the fear of retribution and the anxiety produced by guilt. The warnings of the Word of God must be heeded.

21 (November 1999) It is with great sadness that we report that Dr. Roy Clements, who resigned some months ago as minister of Eden Chapel, Cambridge, is now separated from his wife. He had told her that he had a celibate relationship with a younger man who has acted as a research assistant for him. A very few close friends had been aware for a little while that Roy had struggled with homosexual attraction over a number of years. His wife, Jane, and family, are terribly upset and crushed by what has happened. They need our prayers. In its preface he warmly referred to a lecture you gave to the UCCF in Like him, I have also been grateful for your past ministry and faithfulness in the proclamation of the Word of God.
