Some time ago I was deeply offended for a man told me that my dog v.t.s not a thoroughbred. I said, "See here my dog's mother is a thcrcughbred and my dog's father ;s ;. thoroughbred of another stock." Now, said he, "That's it. Your dog is not a thoroughbred." Nt v.' I cr.rricd n:y pout to the ve'-orinaiv. Said he, "Your dog ::;e'l7 speaking has no pedigree, however.. your dog acquires the finer qualities of both the mother and father dogs." Now then, this jon that I got into led me to think seriously on the subject of thoroughbreds. So I asked again why do dog fanciers demand thoroughbreds? My answer was, y u got a better dog. By that they mean, a more intelligent dog, r; terchable deg, a dog you can be prcud of. Now sir, this is interesting. My friend tells me he would l:r.vo nothing but thoroughbreds, thcrcughbred chickens, cows, Iicgs, rabbits. And why? The hens are better layers, says he, pcrkers are easier fattened, make solid, sweet ' meat. Cows, just doesn't pay to have anything but thoroughbreds. My stock is registered, said he with an air of pride. They produce something, milk, butter, meat, all of the higher order. Now, my friend, a good object lesson is this: are you a thoroughbred? Come of good stock, do you? Don't wince, whine and shirk and complain? Thorough, bred. I just pity the mongrel, anything that is not thoroughbred. Seems as if it was inferior like rubbins of corn or scrubby fruit or undernourished. Thoroughbred, the man of purpose, big in soul, he who stands cut as a cleancut exemplary life, busy for God and home and Church. Not contaminated with the inferior. Thoroughbred, too big to stoop to anything mean or bad or small. A thoroughbred, a man honored of God and loved of his fellows. A thoroughbred is one who graces any community. GEO. M. Mr. Tuttle of East Arndale Road has been ill for the" past two or three weeks was taken to the hospital last Monday for an operation. Mrs. P. H. Cox, Hudson road, is sick with the flu. Braden, Baumberger road, now is at home and convalescing satisfactorily. Saturday afternoon the Stow- High school football team go to Mogadore. It is their first out of town game this season. Levi Moyer spent the fore part of this week visiting in Palmyra. Mrs. Ham. dressmaker, 335 Hudson Road. (Adv.) Rev. Hulme will be absent for the next tivo Sundays. He is conducting a Revival Campaign at the Hazel Park Baptist church, Haze! Par'!;, Michigan. If we understand it correctly this is a suburb ot Detroit. Mr. A. S. Phelps, Ritchie road, nnc! son Milton of Akron combined business :uul pleasure on Tuesday of this week, taking a trip to Mr. Phelps' boyhood home up in the hiils of West Virginia. To be more or less exact this place is in Barbour Country near Phillip! and according to Mr. Phelps it is here the first skirmish of the Civil War took place. In this battle only one man was wounded, lie losing his loot when cannon bail came rolling down ihe main street of the town. Mr. C. K. Construction work on East Kent road Is progressing rapidly. Due to duplication of names the following streets have been renamed by the township trustees. Liberty road off the Kent road has been named South Sanford; Maple road in Paradise Park has been renamed Edgewood drive; Elm road from 245 Munroe Falls road east is now known as Echo road. The Martha Circle, Stow Church of Christ, met Thursday at the home of Mrs. G. G. Glieen, Kent road, while the Esther Circle met on the same day with Miss Mabel Carline, Keut road. One hammer, a basket and other articles used at the last Stow Flower Show remain unclaimed. If you belong to any of these items see Mrs. Dyke. Mrs. Zelia M. STOW JUBILEE AND ROAD OPENING Stow Civic Association are sponsoring a grand jubilee and read opening celebration to be held on Hallowe'en'night. All ledges and Stow organizations are invited to have concessions and are expected to participate. The County Road Commissioners have given their permission to rope off as much of the road as will be necessary. There will be a costume dance, a prize will be 1 awarded for the best dressed or masqueraded individual. A brass band is expected. The road department will send a speaker who will make an address about the road. There will be one or more prize boxing contests. The idea is to make it an all Stow affair.
